Just a point of clarification, It was an adult Hockey league, not a men's hockey league. She's playing in the right place.

Maybe those douchebags should go find a children's league to play in, if they're going to act like children.

Thanks, now I want to go back and watch that old South Park episode where Stan coaches a bunch of kindergartners against the Avs.

UPL has become a solid NHL goalie this season (numbers-wise). He's stopped leaning forward and undoing his size advantage, he's overcommitting less side-to-side, and he's been better at reading the play and his rebound control (the Stars' GWG notwithstanding). The next question becomes... how long are folks willing to extend him. Is GM Sheevyn willing to give him a starter salary, or just go Ullmark walking again?

There's a major difference here with him being restricted after the year.  There's no 5 years or I walk scenario in play right now, or whatever Ullmark got.  I mean, I guess he could try that with going to Europe, but I don't know how likely that would be.

You may have said exaggeration earlier and I suppose there might be multiple ways to interpret this, but you said:

So, yes - you said "don't believe actually happened".

I stand by my statement that not believing women when they come forward to report abuse (of any kind) is a problem.

The story as written, yes, I don't believe that happened.  If you exaggerate and modify the story to make people look as bad as possible, the story is no longer true.  I do believe that some jackasses treated her poorly, but I very highly doubt that she was chased around for the entire game post-hit and was driven to tears.  We are talking about a D1 athlete here.

And there's a huge difference between not believing womEn when they make an accusation vs. not believing womAn.  I prefer to judge each incident individually and not just throw a blanket over everything.  This specific story, as presented in that article and the twitter post, it just feels like it's a bit too far off in fantasy land to me.  It doesn't add up.  Even little things like sitting around in the lobby expecting an apology.  Who does that?

The most successful professional league in the world doesn't have a draft lottery.

This one got me wondering. People always like to comment on how soccer is the most popular in the world. So I was very surprised when I looked up the ranking of leagues’ revenue. The US really does dominate things.

If your wisdom led you to believe that you should comment on what is a naturally incendiary conversation without reading the article I'm not sure I would trust your wisdom in believing what you think happened.

You are giving them a pass.  Idiots can say anything because stupid is gonna stupid. But you don't tolerate it, you call it out and say that's not okay. I don't care how old anyone is.  If I can call out my father for his ignorance I can certainly call out a stranger.

Naive is pretending it should be accepted because someone grew up in a different era.

Isn’t it also naive to assume that one person’s telling of an incident is 100% accurate? I’m sorry, but I’m very skeptical of this story as written. D1 coach sitting in the corner crying? There’s some massive exaggeration at play here.

But it’s not a guarantee to work. It could, it also might make things worse (I know how could they be worse).

They also have an insanely talented roster topped off by two of the best centers in the universe.  Not all situations are the same.

If a woman decides to suit up for a competitive men's league game, they should expect to be treated like any other player.   It's that simple.

I've played in some of the top level rec leagues both in Buffalo, the bay area and down here in orange county... played against maybe 2 or 3 women at different times, and they were all studs (former college, pro, etc..).

That said, my general take on rec league is the game becomes more and more chippy the lower the level.    Top level, most guys played somewhere at some point and the respect level is high between players... not really much of anything between whistles, etc.

I've also played down a few levels and the lack of respect blew my mind.... I've never been slashed, hooked, cross-checked as much at any time in my life.    It's a gong show.

When I can no longer compete at the top rec league level  I'm going to hang em' up for good.

The mid-level beer leagues in Boston were the strangest thing I've ever seen in the game.  There's nothing quite like a 50 something acting like he still has a shot at the NHL.  I can't count the number of times I responded to a fight challenge with "it's a ****ing beer league".

Years ago there was a new story posted on here about a guy getting thrown out of his league for dropping a deuce in another player's glove.  That guy played in my league and was one of the nicest guys out there.  It was a real shame that he's the one who winds up getting thrown out of the league after he lost his mind in the face of yet another hot headed hack out there trying to fight everyone.

Nice run by McDavid and crew, stopped at 16.

Edmonton was looking to tie the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins for the longest NHL win streak.

Pittsburgh’s streak ended with a tie. They then followed it up with 3 more wins. One little rule change has corrupted the “winning” streak numbers.

I find the "soft" talk - both here on this board and elsewhere on teh interwebs (Twitter mainly) - to be ... well, not what I'd prefer to see from fellow Sabre fans. That's putting it as charitably as I can.

The player being "injury prone" is a fair discussion, or even observation.

But soft? The guy's not soft. He's unlucky, apparently. And, yes, probably injury prone. Dude had to pack it in so that he could get surgery. But that doesn't make him soft.

I just wonder that if he’s been trying to fight through the same injury all year, wouldn’t that be the opposite of soft?

Well, at the ASG last year, Upper Deck was giving out trading cards of the mascots.  There were 31 total.  30 guys in fuzzy suits w/ some sort of cartoon animal head for the most part.  And 1 that was just a big rubber octopus.  Will let you guess which team that was for.  😉

The NY Rags were the only team with no mascot whatsoever.

I really don’t want to know what mascot they’d come up with for a team named the rags.

At last year's ASG SC they also held the mascot hockey game after the broadcast was over.  It was the best part of the night.  The range of skills from some of them being barely able to skate to others being REALLY good at the hockey was surprising.  Expected they'd all have at least reasonable skill.  Sabretooth was solid last year.  The Eastern mascots won last year because Carlson was a brick wall.  Looks like both of those are still true this year.

Interestingly (or not) the Rags didn't have a mascot last year and Detroit's mascot is a giant octopus but it isn't a costume (or at least it wasn't), so at last year's game the Eastern Conference was down 2 skaters but still won going away.  Didn't pay close enough attention to see if those 2 finally got ones this year but didn't notice them if they were there.

No idea why they couldn't find a way to broadcast these games.  They're the best part of the AS weekend.

But how pathetic is it that they had to set up Carlton with a situation that even a Loaf in the 1st round of the playoffs couldn't have not scored on?  The game itself is entertaining enough.  They don't need to coddle the stinkin' Loaf employees and fans.  Pathetic.  Pathetic indeed.

They used to do those mascot games in hockey east all the time. One of the schools had a mascot that didn’t wear one of the giant heads like all the rest. That guy always destroyed all of them in the game.
