  1. Varone with 3 points already in today's matinee. Ellis's arrival may be the push he needs.
  2. Can either of you point to a poster in this thread that is debating Bucky's point? I can't. I think we all agree, it's time for change. Can we all also agree that Bucky's a tool and the paper would be better with a columnist that had more class?
  3. I think we mostly agree that Pegula's stance on R&R sucks. That was already being discussed in several threads before Bucky posted his special Sunday column. Instead, let's keep this one on Bucky, and how he trolls insecure Western NY sports fans.
  4. #5, Bucky The Troll style 5. There's a lot of angst in Minnesota about the Wild's 5-5-1 start. After the free-agent bonanza, several opponents said laughed at Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher's and said his biggest challenge would be managing expectations. While Parise and Ryan Suter are big upgrades, the roster has holes. The organization is stocked with talented youth, but in different stages of development. "They will not be a contender until their young players are ready," said laughed one executive. "But that will be hard for ownership to hear.
  5. One other thing, aside from the sports columnists, I think TBN is an excellent paper. Margaret Sullivan is (was) something special. Our sports columnist in Roc was Bob Matthews for like 25 years, although I think he was recently the victim of down-sizing. He's a total sports nerd. For hockey we have Oklobizija who is super on top of it and knowledgeable but seems to have some fan-boy in him himself and the usual chip on his shoulder / authority problem so common in journalists. So, Bucky and Sullivan are certainly a step up from that, but man enough of the low blow / low class stuff.
  6. Hard for me to get there. He purposely chose "laughing at" for maximum effect, it's lame. Yes. Bucky needs to put in more effort, so does Sully. Same 'ol template, it's boring and unoriginal. I think predominantly there's mutual respect among the owners and GMs. I assume TB is well respected and has good relationships throughout the league, we know LR and DR are. I can see other GM's discussing Myer's recent play and laughing "ha, yeah he's struggling" or Leino's injury on top of his controversial contract "haha, that one has gotta suck for DR". But again I highly doubt they laugh "hahaha, Buffalo sucks because their new owner (who's great for our business/avg salary, job creation, etc) is a fanboy!" I understand it's Bucky's job to be an a-hole and stir it up, and to his credit I guess he's pretty good at it, but as consumers of his product I think we should demand better. And yes, I agree w/ the content of the article (DR and LR are not doing an acceptable job, TP is starry eyed) but again he shows little class in his presentation of it.
  7. The point is, Bucky's style sucks. "laughing at them". Do you really believe that?
  8. Screw Bucky. He loses credibility with "high ranking people...are laughing at them". Really? That's what professionals and peers do to each other when behind closed doors with a 2nd rate sports columnist? Doubt it. Criticize all you want, the results warrant it, but mix in a little class (see Paul Hamilton), otherwise you are either an a-hole or a troll or both.
  9. I remember a guy thought to be Steve Donner. Amerks-something. I guess but they are a small, noisy old-school group stuck in the 70s. These days the Amerks/AHL exists to support the NHL, hopefully they win while doing so, but there's going to be call-ups and that's a good thing when it happens.
  10. yw, i would be interested in hearing others opinions too. ink? buehler? Just read he's a healthy scratch tonight. Yeah I'd be surprised to see them pick him back up. letsgoamerks is tough. Amerks first! Sabres be damned! mentality. I don't get it.
  11. Idk. No love lost there, but Stafford will warm up at some point for a few weeks, Vanek will cool down. The D is a big prob! And Myers is supposed to be a our horse.
  12. If Myers gets right, they are maybe a playoff team. If not, the Amerks will win the Calder Cup.
  13. He's pretty good. Probably the fastest guy on the team and I think speed makes up the bulk of his game. Remember Geoff Sanderson? Not quite that fast, but better finish. I think he's been on the top line all season, he was playing with Hodgson and Foligno when they were here. I can't see him on the current Sabres roster though. Figure if the injury bug hits hard it would be Porter, Adam, Flynn, with obviously Tropp and maybe Girgensons slotted in before him when they are healthy, oh plus Tarnasky if size/toughness is needed. I'm surprised Tarnasky hasn't found a slot on a 4th line in the NHL somewhere.
  14. Good post, especially that point. I'm a sucker for TP's bromance with Darcy and Lindy, and the vision of wining the cup with them after all these years (invest in good people long term rather than churn and burn). Unfortunately it's looking very unlikely and it's time for Ruff to go. With DR's statement, TB's job just got a lot tougher than choosing paint schemes for the atrium.

    Tyler Myers

Doubt it will happen, but I'd love to see Biega get a shot. Smart player, very good skater, hard worker, and mature relative to these high draft pick too young to drink beer legally kids with heavy expectations (Pysyk, G-L, McNabb). He's undersized (5'11''), but he could be the right guy for a headcase like Myers.
  16. Almost forgot, Tim Connolly in the house tonight. http://amerks.com/media/pdf/20130201-AmerksMarliesRosters.pdf
  17. Yeah I don't really get it either. I guess cause it wasn't that vicious of a hit? And Kaleta has a rep around the league of starting ###### but not fighting? Still, dude has history of head/neck and was in hospital. Not so classy.
  18. Anyone else see the #tougherthankaleta tag trending during lunch? https://twitter.com/search?q=%23TougherThanKaleta&src=hash Pretty harsh.
  19. Closer to SJF East Rochester - http://thenorthsideinn.com/ standard family owned/run place. Fairport - http://www.companebistro.com/ newer "bistro" feel. (but the village is a mess right now with the liftbridge under repairs (rt 250)) Pittsford - http://www.nextdoorbarandgrill.com/ Not Italian, but Wegmans' restaurant with a diverse menu. Danny and his Ferrari were dining there last time I was. City - also not Italian but very good restaurant http://www.restaurantgoodluck.com/ Last, never been personally but heard on good authority this place is tops - http://roccorochester.com/ reservation will be required, upscale.
  20. Bummer, he was a favorite. Not so much for skill level, but seems like a genuinely good dude, and the toughness. Hmmmph. If Brennan stays up this is gonna hurt. Beiga & McNabb, then 19 year olds.
  21. Little late but seems like he was unprepared for it too. Hopefully not too much damage. Brennan there immediately to throw, + goal + assist.
  22. Great game last night! Brennan again! On fire. We could here him call "ALEX!" from the 200s on his goal. Biega with the perfect pass. Girgs had another good game. Chemistry seemed good with the forward lines. And the annual jersey auctions - from amerks twitter - interesting to see who drives what price. https://twitter.com/i/#!/AmerksHockey/media/slideshow?url=pic.twitter.com%2FqO38y20i
  23. Ouch. I missed the game, but loss of Foligno is big for this group. Pressure on Porter now. And McNabb has a good opportunity to settle in and lead.
  24. They are probably all reserved for Amerk STH, and any extras they request. I got mine yesterday, we sit in 200s in ROC and they put us in 100s. So I'd guess they'll free up within the next couple days. I believe the 14th was the cutoff.
  25. Adam's goal was especially good because he scored it by battling in front of the net then batting the puck out of the air. Pretty sure the rebound was from a Brennan bomb at the goalie's face in retaliation for the elbowing penalty the goalie took just prior. I was on the "party platform" for that goal (ice level right behind the net) and the whole sequence was outstanding - Brennan chirping the goalie when the penalty was called, Brennan chirping after the goal was scored. Great stuff. On the other hand, in the same period, Luke Adam stood and watched un-engaged as Hodgson got roughed up after the whistle by 2 Marlies. It's your best player, in his first game back, pinned against the boards in a scrum 2:1, and you watch? I'm done with him.
