  1. There's your trick play. As a player carries the puck across the blue line, he pretends to lose control sending it towards the corner, he then pretends to give up on the play dropping his shoulders and elbows, all the while the puck is moving towards the goal line. When the goalie gives up on the play as well, the shooter races to it and slaps it in.

In my men's league, I was busting between two defensemen near the tops of the circles when I was tripped. As I tripped forward, the puck was out in front of me and I jammed at it hard with one hand on the stick. Just as I did that, the goalie relaxed from his stance, stood straight up and it slid 5-hole. :)

  2. You should look up the previous spinorama discussion in the archives. it will blow your mind. I'm pretty sure it was carp who tried to explain how the puck is always moving toward the goal line even on a spinorama. I remember my retort was, well what if you're driving down the highway going 70 and throw a ball into the back seat -- isn't the ball going backwards? The answer was no.

That's a frame of reference question.

When you are walking, the world is moving beneath you in your frame of reference.

  3. You think I'm pre-conditioned to criticize Vanek?! I mean, if it were Connolly or Stafford, sure. SDS, you're not reading many of my posts, apparently.

I criticized Vanek because he made a poor play. In general, he's not on my ###### list.

That was a generalization of all fans, not you specifically.

  4. I'm upset, but not enough to cloud my judgment. I still disagree. If he shoots, and there is a rebound (which there would be because it's Biron) there are only Roy and Vanek to pick it up. Game over.

What rebound was Roy going to pick up? He was in no position to pickup any rebound.

  5. Don't write me off as being upset that we lost. Yeah, I would have loved a win, but as above, I'm not unhappy with 5 pts in 3 games. Frankly, I'm not upset right now.

I saw a clear scoring chance that Vanek passed up; apparently, I'm not the only one. We saw the play, and Vanek missed it.

I chalk that up to being pre-conditioned to criticize Vanek whenever he passes and for fan's predilection for saying you should have done the opposite when something didn't work.

He had no momentum. He got spun around. He's flat-footed and he makes a backdoor pass. I'm not going to complain. The defenseman did a good job of at least interrupting the flow of the play.

  6. Scott, Vanek needed to shoot that. There was plenty of net available. He has a lack of confidence right now, and it's troubling. He should have put that on net; the "old Vanek" would have scored. He's great in shootouts, but in live play, he lacks the shooting instinct he once had.

That's because he was absolutely so shocked that Vanek passed instead of shot (like the entire world) that he wasn't ready for it.

You guys are just upset that we lost. That was a great backdoor pass for a tap in. There is a difference between pulling up and seeing a great play develop in front of you. He saw the play and Roy missed it.

  7. I'll take that as your white flag of surrender. Whether I go or not is irrelevant to the discussion.

In a way, you've made it relevant.

It's one thing to make an observation. Maybe even the same observation twice. It's another to harp on a subject of which you choose not to become a part of the solution. Complaining that other people who make the trip aren't loud enough, especially to the virtual faces of those who are going, is rather bush IMO.

  8. That was quite a save by Lalime with the blocker with a little over a minute left on Sharp.

You can't tell me the atmosphere in that building isn't spurring the Sabres on. One of the best buildings in the league. They really have to do something about HSBC Arena.

    such as?

  9. While they're not a close friend of mine, hearing that someone I know had a bout with cancer is pretty sobering. It puts everything into perspective.

Just this year my sister came down with breast cancer, my uncle with prostate cancer, my mother was just diagnosed with leukemia a few weeks ago, and on Monday my wife's two aunts were trucked over by a landscaping truck in PA.

  10. My wife's company has been laying people off here & there for a while, but it's now at the point where massive layoffs are expected. Unfortunately, since her co-worker who does the same job has more seniority, she could likely be on the outs. At least she's interviewing and is waiting word from one place, but this still sucks.

unless it is union, not necessarily. They could be shedding salary...

  11. SabreSpace updated the message board software late this evening to take advantage of the newer software release. Along with this, our skin will change slightly because with so many updates - a custom skin is rather time consuming to update after each release.

  12. Being off for a couples weeks after getting laid off has put me in a sour mood. I'm having a hard time motivating myself to do anything with my life. I'm a 23 year old college graduate applying for part time jobs at Tim Horton's because entry level jobs want 2-3 years experience for those same jobs. How the f*ck am I supposed to get experience, eh? :wallbash:

I have been fortunate enough to spend the ast month (sans last week) with a top notch placement management company. If you want to talk about job searching - I would be happy to help you and share the resources I have been given. I was skeptical at 1st because "I know what to do", but it has been tremendously helpful and everyone can benefit from their techniques.

Well, if its any constellation, I have 22 years experience in my field (electrical). I have some college.

I am being told I am over qualified for tow motor operators positions as well as other positions at the 10 to 12 dollar an hour range.

I'm guessing either Orion or the Big Dipper.

It's good to go a few weeks between "jobs".

I got such good scores on my LSAT's I feel forced into Law school.

Options are good! Talk with lawyers and see what they love/hate about their jobs. Take the Birkman quiz http://www.birkman.com/ and take note of the areas you gravitate towards...

  13. They've been pretty much MIA for a little while now. Corp pretty much fell off the face of the earth. I think I remember reading him say something about having a kid, so that would make sense. Blue disappeared early in the offseason too. He threw a little fit about inactivity of the front office then really hasn't said anything since. And then there's knightrider. I haven't seen him around here in a long time now.

The inmates are running the asylum! I'm sure we all already knew that though from reading this place in the last couple weeks.

    they visit almost daily...
