Pretty entertaining thread..
Sure beats the what are you watching, reading, eating, drinking, smoking, beating tripe that has been on here lately.
It's unfortunate that you think people having friendly conversation outside of the hockey discussion is such a drag on your life. Try not to kick your dog too hard today.

Interesting anecdote, Pittsburgh has used advanced metrics to tell James Neal where to shoot the puck from.
Link?

There was a story I read somewhere (on CBC.com I think, but cannot confirm, so take this for what it is worth) that the Sabres were supposedly shopping Kassian quietly since December.
I mentioned it here because Rob Ray mentioned it on WGR earlier this week.

Speak for yourself. That was high entertainment.

No - betamax and laserdisc were the failed alternative technology.
I bet he jams to his Zune in the morning with that Senseo...

I'm with you, Chz -- I got one several years ago because I live alone and just brew one cup to take with me on the way to work, so it's not worth the time and cleanup to make a full pot. (That, and I somehow always overestimate how much ground coffee to use and end up with stuff that tastes awful.) Most of the varieties I get work out to around 50-55 cents a cup, which is more expensive than brewing a pot but still far less than Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc. And I like the variety as well. I generally only do coffee, but I buy four boxes at a time and get different brands and brew strengths so I can pick something that suits me and still have things my dad will drink when he comes to visit. I love that thing.
Edit: Hmm, maybe this should be in the "Things That are Awesome" thread, lol.
Yes, I was going to post that earlier...

you think so? i don't think ruff hears those claims, or, if he does, that he heeds them one bit.
i think he was just trying to downplay the quality of the player that the team sent to vancouver and amplify the notion that the sabres got the better of the deal.
or he could be just being honest about why they let the guy go.

I don't feel like digging up the post I'm replying to, but this is in regards to the criticisms of Kassian that have occurred since the trading deadline and why they are coming out now....
People are letting their critical observations of Kassian be known because there is no longer any rationale for them to "wait and see". We no longer have a vested interest in what he does. Everyone is free to give their postmortem thoughts on his time here because when else are we going to do it? There was no event, no timetable, no incentive for people to join in conversation en masse and give their final thoughts on the kid until now.
So no, it isn't that there is a need to come down on him because he's gone - it is just that now is the time to post your "snapshot in time" thoughts of where he was with the Sabres. The fact that I hear Rob Ray saying there have been a lot of organization rumblings about Kassian and his time with the Sabres and in Rochester carries a lot of weight. He also said yesterday they were quietly shopping him since December. This all amounts to Kassian's performance evaluation to date. And while we were all willing to see what he matured into, we no longer have to wait. We no longer have to hope. We no longer have to dismiss any troubling signs. We can just post what we saw and move on...
-
It was either a 1-0 game or tied at that point. Not sure he wants to fight and possibly put his team down. Wait till they are beating the sabres 5-1 on saturday night and he'll pick a partner.
When has he ever "picked a partner" for the sake of picking a partner?

a bunch of quotes...
all of which are lamenting the "Concept of Paul Gausted" and what could have been. Which didn't pan out and you just reaffirmed that you don't think he is the leader he could have been. Yet you proclaim we lost something that never materialized.
-
Some people need to come up with a label for themselves. It's completely unnecessary and only serves to sever the place into a few different cliques.
It doesn't even have any relevance anymore, since clearly everyone is on board with a shakeup of this team. No one here is claiming everything is all right.
-
1. Heart and Toughness are two different things. Drury and Briere both had heart but not "toughness" in the sense that you mean. We lost toughness in moving Kassian but we have toughness on the way with Foligno, McNabb, and Tropp taking on full time roles between now and next fall.
You need to see the constant massaging of the data here. See, Kassian was counted in the toughness column, despite being a Rochester guy. We lost him and the next one on GoDD's list was Gerbe... because the Rochester guys no longer count because that makes for a weaker case.
You can't say you need three things, claim you improved on one, have gained a ton of potential in another, and lost some in a 3rd and still be able to rant as vociferously. So, you just massage the data and crank it out.
-
It's all potential. Kassian was a captain in juniors, played international winning medals.....and Central Scouting had him as the toughest guy out there, comparing his skill set to Neely and Tkachuk. That's the point. I am not talking down Hodgson. I in fact said that Vancouver made the most sense as a trade partner for a center the night before the trade. I am talking of the need to bash a kid as he's out the door to make yourself feel good. The tragic flaws on this team are still there. Hodgson could score 90 points next season and if a Shane Doan or an Iginla aren't brought in...it won't matter. That's always been my point, and once again at least for the next 4 months...we are still there.
Looks like you dodged my point. You claim we got weaker in leadership. That must be because you thought Gausted was an important leader on this team, a team that you routinely run down for a lack of leadership and claim that it is one of the biggest needs WITH Gausted still here. I don't recall you touting Gausted's leadership role. Did I miss that?
If you want to totally disregard Cody's leadership potential - that's fine, but calling the situation a downgrade is just suiting your rant and not supported by your previous opinions or by the realities of this team.
-
1)Heart+Toughness 2)Leadership 3)Centers.....the Sabres gained ground on one and lost ground in 2.
Yet, everything being reported about Cody is in fact he has a ton of potential in the leadership department. Many fans were counting on him being captain in a few years. Yet you dismiss it out of hand. I don't recall waiving the Gausted leadership flag in recent years and no one has ever put forth the argument that Kassian was going to fill that roll, so really you are skewing your facts to suit your needs.
What is Team Stormcloud actually, in more that two sentences, without the spin, in another thread?Toronto Maple Leaf fans.

It was used here and the OP edited it out... haha

I've been using, "The Legend of Zack Kassian"
Not as good. Means something totally different.
-
I also wanted to thank whoever came up with the phrase "The Concept of Zack Kassian". I'm totally stealing that line for myself and using it in any and all conversations I'm having about this deal.
-
Fans almost always overvalue their prospects though. Just look at the stuff said around here about so many of our draft picks.
Compare our reaction to losing Kassian to their reaction. Ours was like a 3 while theirs went to 11.
-
That was awesome. Thanks for sharing it. I loved how they thought they were getting Kassian and Tyler Myers for Hodgson.
Which goes to show you how much they VALUE Hodgson.
-
We all know Lindy is not going to take Roy off that line barring an injury. I agree with you on Ennis though. I would like to see how he plays with Vanek. I just don't see it happening.
I'm not sure what team you watch, but the one I watch changes linemates like an OCDer washes his hands.
-
Personally, I'd put him in the top 6. I don't actually expect that to happen though. My guess as to what will happen:
Vanek-Roy-Pominville (ugh)
Leino-Ennis-Stafford
Gerbe-Hodgson-Kaleta
Tropp-Ellis-Boyes
When the Sabres acquired Bernier - Lindy put him on line #1 the 1st game. I expect the same with Cody.
-
I'm not being contrarian, I'm stating that everybody is taking not only my comments but GoDD's totally out of context. Maybe I should change my username, this is getting dumb now.
Remember, it's not you - it is everyone else...
-
Taking what I said out of context. Typical.
considering how little I post how is this "typical"? You said you saw exactly the same thing. How is that taking it out of context? The guy makes a statement and you back it up with an example.
-
What are you even addressing with this post?
You brought up an example of Kassian "thinking" because of the "system" alluded to by the previous poster. You said you saw the same thing.

I agree and have almost posted this sentiment many, many times. Not only are they incredibly juvenile, but they aren't even relevant today. Is there a single person out there that thinks this team doesn't have major issues?
A certain faction of people wanted to wait and see what would happen to the team dynamics under Pegula, by only changing one piece at a time - the other faction didn't want to wait and wanted to fire the owner, the partner, the GM, the coach, and the players all at the same time.
Regardless, I see little evidence that anyone thinks the team that takes the ice now is set for success.
