The offseason so far - Are the Sabres better?

🤷 I read it as Kesselring is really good without the puck, Jokiharju was better defensively than people say, and the other guys we moved on from were really bad. -

You are working too hard to be pessimistic. You are assuming the negative when the goalie issue is still an open issue. I, like you, have my doubts about UPL. Were there better alternatives in the market? Not sure about that. My hope is that the team's better defensive play contributes to the better play in net, whoever is there. Hang in there, you are working too hard to be dour. 🙂 -

Hoping and praying that UPL doesn't suck again is not a plan for success. By signing Lyons, Adams is basically saying that no further upgrades in goal are coming that that he is employing the same failed strategy since Ullmark left town and that is hoping and praying one or both of UPL and Levi emerge as real NHL goalies. This team is done before the season even starts. -
There may have been one or two people that would have been acceptable for the allocation of additional resources for the coaching staff. One was not interested. This has been a GMKA Talking Point since Power signed his ELC, no action though I would trade for Liligren from San Jose. One of the common trade proposals for Byram before the draft was Liligren and 30th overall. San Jose does have Edmonton’s First this year

I have no idea how to quantify that the way I tried with the goals for potential. In terms of in/out with the skaters this is what the athletic model has to say about their defensive impact: Peterka 2% -> Doan (not ranked) Cozens 8% -> Norris 39% Lafferty 19% -> Danforth 40% Jokiharju 56% -> Kesselring 81% Clifton 13% -> Timmins 59% Not even sure how the stat (I believe it is a percentile relative to the league) is calculated, so take that for what it is worth. -
It should as Doan and Kesselring have extremely good analytics and JJ does not

They give recommendations on all sorts of moves, the issue is they are not followed unlike the Panthers. Analytics is the reason Florida gets players such as Forsling, Verhaeghe and Mikkola at bargain basement prices. Jarmo is a fan of analytics, so hopefully this bodes well for the future
-
That should have been a priority when he was first drafted. It would have helped in his development, and it would have made the team better by solidifying the second pairing that gets a lot of playing time. And other related issues are who is going to be paired with Dahlin and if Byram is traded how will the pairings shake out?

I wonder if the jjp return had analytics involved

Much of the team's success or not is predicated on better defensive player by the blue liners and lines. Will the goaltending beupgraded? If the other units play better, it will. I'm not assuming that there will be a dramatic defensive upgrade but expect better play on that end this season. Will it make much of a difference from a record standpoint? I think so. There's no reason not to believe that individually and collectively that Quinn, Benson and Power will not be better. The biggest issue for me will be how UPL plays. If he surprises us in a positive way, then this team should be at least respectable. In general, you seem to lean toward the negative while I grudgingly lean toward just maybe this team is on a more positive route. And another open issue is how will the Byram saga play out? I don't know. - Today

The Panthers have over 40 people listed in their front office/hockey ops department. The Sabres have approximately 24 including Jarmo and Staal. The Panthers front office is considered one of the most progressive when it comes to analytics, Jeff Marek reported on the What Chaos Podcast that Bill Zito will not make a move without checking with Sunny Mehta, Director of Analytics for the Panthers, first. Adams has an excellent Analytics Department lead by Sam Ventura, which he does not to listen to it as much as he should. . Which is a shame because Ryan McLeod is the result of when he does.

Such a weird thing to make up to make yourself feel better about voting for a PEDO.

Doesn't help he made it one of his MAIN talking points to get himself elected and now all the sudden it's a non issue. Epsteins old lawyer even saying Trump is suppressing the documents.

Has any of the offers teams made for Byram been revealed?

William. Eklund. Also he wasn't even the best defender in that class. Luke Hughes was that draft and Mason McTavish too but the true top guy in that class was and impo is Eklund. But he wasn't 6'6" and you can't teach size! And defensemen that tall are rare! (Buffalo has 4 now, Power, Mrtka, Bedkowski, Kleber) The Sabres bought the hype, didn't value the underlying traits enough, and decided he was the best player even though he's a passive player.
