Sekera’s return a breath of fresh air for Sabres

‘The Sabres took eight defensemen on the trip, including rookie call-up Brayden McNabb, in case Sekera isn’t ready. Tyler Myers will continue to take the morning skates during his three-game NHL suspension. He will sit out tonight as well as Monday at Tampa Bay and can play again Wednesday against Montreal.’

Points lost with home shootout record

‘In part because of the shootout losses, the Sabres entered Friday tied for the NHL in home OT/shootout defeats with eight. That’s a lot of potential points lost. Buffalo has only one post-regulation loss on the road.’

LaFontaine back in town behind the bench

‘Yes, that is Hall of Famer, Sabres legend, philanthropist and all-around great guy Pat LaFontaine running the show behind the bench of the Long Island Royals. He’s coaching a team that not only includes his son Daniel, who was born in Buffalo, but also former Amherst Knight and Canisius High School player and Michigan State commit Justin Bailey.’

Sekera nearing return, will force a Sabres defenseman to the bench

‘The illness left Sekera bedridden for five days and short of breath. Even going upstairs was tiring. Sekera lost several pounds, a number between “three or four and eight or 10,” he joked.’

Sabres regroup

‘Nathan Gerbe is skating on his own, but is still day to day. Ruff said he’s going on the trip. Andrej Sekera is better and might play one or both games.’

Sabres Sekera is close to full recovery

‘Sekera said, “I would say I’m almost there and I feel pretty confident I can start playing again.” Ruff added, “Pneumonia is scary because that can last a long time, but he was able to shake it off, he’s got his weight back. Obviously with him and Myers out the back end is a little bit different and we need those two guys back.”’

Sekera healthy, ready to play

‘Head coach Lindy Ruff wouldn’t rule Sekera out. “He did a lot better. He got through his first full practice so hopefully he could be a possibility for tomorrow,” Ruff said.’
