‘Since November, the Sabres are barely averaging over 1 1/2 goals per game on the road, and they have been shut out or scored just one goal in 12 of their last 32 contests on enemy ice.’

Hodgson hopes practice makes perfect
‘”I always think I can improve,” he said. “There are certain areas I’ve looked it but I’m happy to be here trying to help a team win. It’s not for lack of effort that I haven’t scored yet but it obviously would be nice to start to contribute offensively.”‘
Spacek moving forward with ‘Canes
‘The 38-year-old’s experienced enough moving around. Counting two stints in Chicago, he’s played for eight teams, including a successful three-year run with the Sabres from 2006-09.’

Vanek Feeling Better; Sekera Feeling Worse
‘Thomas Vanek is much better after leaving Thursday night’s loss after being hit by Bruin defenseman Johnny Boychuk. His status for Saturday is still up in the air. Ruff said, “Thomas is OK, he’s a little bit sore, but he’s doing OK.” As far if he’ll miss any time Ruff said, “I can’t answer that question right now. It will all depend on how he feels tomorrow.”‘
Sabres McCormick will still be fighting
‘McCormick is the guy that fights and sticks up for teammates. He is not a defensive brawler at all. He takes vicious blows so he can land some bombs of his own. After two concussions, how much is he thinking about taking punches to the head? “I don’t think you can be tentative in this game. Yes, I have had two concussions, but it could’ve just been a fluke. I could’ve gone through the season without one. I could go into the next game and if I have that in the back of my head, I don’t think I’ll be playing my game. To play my game I’ve got to be feisty and in the hard areas so it’s definitely not something I want to have on my shoulders.”’
Sabres Look to Continue Playoff Push in Ottawa
‘The players remain confident they can still fight back into the playoff picture. “Probably have to go four-out-of-five the rest of the way. It’s going to be tough but everyone in the room believes we can do it,” said defenseman Tyler Myers.’
Friday notebook
‘In other player news, Andrej Sekera’s condition has actually worsened and he’s staying in Buffalo for further tests. Ruff said they are trying determine if Sekera has a severe case of the flu or something more than that.’
Foligno recalled from Rochester
‘In his first professional season, Foligno (8/10/91, 6’3″, 227 lbs) is tied for second in scoring on the Americans with 34 points (14+20) and 70 penalty minutes in 55 games.’
