Miller makes 43 saves as Sabres cool off Ducks

‘Still, they merely kept pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race, remaining in 12th place with 19 games to go. However, the did tie Tampa Bay in points (the Lightning holds the tiebreaker) and pulled within a point of Toronto, which lost on Wednesday to Chicago. The next game comes tonight when the Sabres visit the San Jose Sharks at 10:30.’

New Sabre Hodgson ready to contribute

‘”Hopefully, I can fit in and do well,” Hodgson said in Honda Center. “I’m interested in helping the team get in the playoff picture.”‘

Did Hodgson ask for the trade?

‘At least twice – and with two different agents – Canuck management held summit meetings with Hodgson and his representative to air grievances and reassure the centre that he was valued and had a future with the National Hockey League team.’

Miller’s 4th shutout leads Sabres past Ducks, 2-0

‘“Teams get desperate in the third period and they start to pinch (along the boards), and it’s hard to get out of your zone. But we tried to help each other out and were able to battle through it,” Miller said. “I was trying to be really calm in the crease. It helps that we had a lot of great back pressure and the D was able to stand some guys up, so I don’t feel like I had to challenge the rush plays too much. I can read what’s coming, and all I had to do was step out and attack.”’

Buffalo 2, Anaheim 0

‘”I felt pretty good and I’ve been trying to be really calm in the net, and start from there in the crease,” said Miller. “It helps that we have a lot of great back pressure and our ‘D’ is able to stand some guys up. I don’t feel like I have to challenge the rush play as much and I can read what’s coming.”‘

Sabres Pluck Ducks 2-0

‘The Sabres played most of the third in their own end, with Miller continuing to shine in the net. Anaheim poured on the pressure in the final minute, but Buffalo’s netminder was equal to the task. Miller battled his way to a 43 save shutout as a few other battles broke out in the final minute. With time expiring, multiple fights broke out, the first of which coming from Ryan Getzlaf and Mike Weber.’

Hodgson is ready to start his Sabre career

‘Hodgson will play tonight in Anaheim while Sulzer won’t. The newest center is excited and was all smiles talking with us, “I’m excited, it’s a good group of guys, they’re younger with good offensive skill, steady D corps and good goaltending so I hope I fit in.” Hodgson added, “I’m excited to get going, just try to fit in with the team as best as possible. I’m excited to be here, and hopefully it’s a good fit. I think we can complement each other. I know a few guys already, and I’m looking to have a good time. It’s fun.”‘

Sabres 2, Ducks 0

‘The win moved the Sabres to 28-27-8 (64 points), and they are now just five points behind the eighth-place Washington Capitals. Buffalo’s four-game west coast swing continues Thursday as they head north to face the San Jose Sharks.’
