January 27, 1975

The Sabres trade left winger Norm Gratton and a third-round draft pick in 1976 to the Minnesota North Stars for center and two-time Cup winner Fred Stanfield.

January 27, 1989

At the Aud, starting goalie Daren Puppa breaks his arm in a collision with Montreal's Mike McPhee. The Sabres win the game 4-2 but lose Puppa for the rest of the season. The loss will soon force GM Gerry Meehan to make a trade for another goaltender, Clint Malarchuk, leading to a much more frightening injury at the Aud two months later.

January 27, 1991

No one is overly concerned when the Sabres lose to the Calgary Flames, 5-4, at Memorial Auditorium. After all, the fans have been spoiled by an eight-game unbeaten streak at home. Little did they know, the Sabres wouldn't win again at the Aud until March 17, a winless streak of 12 games (0-7-5).

January 27, 2002

Stu Barnes scores in overtime to give the Sabres a 3-2 win in Washington. Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

I can't believe its almost been 17 years since the malarchuk injury. It seems like yesterday.

PA, how can you forget a little tidbit of history on Jan 27, 1991?

Buffalo Bills kicker Scott Norwood misses 47 yard field goal to win Super Bowl XXV. The missed kick gives the NY Giants a 20-19 victory and serves as a harbinger of things to come for the Bills in the Super Bowl. Fans across WNY run to local watering holes to drink the pain away.

I don't remember that game at all, the sabres that is.

However, the next few years on Super Bowl Sunday the Sabres hosted Winnipeg and Edmonton in matinee games and then the Bills promptly lost to the Redskins and Cowboys respectively. I attended both of those games. I remember them playing the Shout! song and stenciling GO BILLS in Bills font inside the blue lines.
