K-9 Posted Monday at 09:12 PM Report Posted Monday at 09:12 PM After having his 1st Amendment rights violated with the full support of the Authoritarian Wannabe in Chief and his hypocritical lackey Brendan Carr, Disney/ABC has reinstated Kimmel’s show starting tomorrow night. I’ll be interested to see if Sinclair or NextStar will allow their affiliates to air his show in those markets. It wouldn’t be the first time affiliate owners did such a thing. Anyway, score one for freedom of speech. https://apnews.com/article/jimmy-kimmel-suspension-supporters-94b79634a19b2c4ce70a2b4195ef1175 1

Personally if the people who spoke out about Disney didn't, I don't think much would have changed. It's still the all mighty dollar that rules. It's still a good thing he's back on the air. I will be curious how the rest of this story plays out.

Was Kimmel sought out, punished, and network licenses threatened by the government for exercising his free speech on government regulated airwaves? The answer is obvious. And that makes it a 1st Amendment free speech issue. And of course the almighty dollar always plays a role, regardless.

The reinstatement is what I am questioning. Clearly free speech was not what resulted in him being reinstated. So it's not really a win. The win for free speech would be ABC telling the government to stick it.

For all intents and purposes ABC did tell the government to stick it with the reinstatement in and of itself. And Kimmel’s monologue further underscored the victory for free speech. What he said last night was far more insulting to Trump and MAGA and so far, no new threats to revoke licenses by the administration. But ultimately, there are no “winners” when it comes to 1st Amendment violations. That said and as you alluded to previously, I think money played a prominent role in Disney’s decision. Apparently, they were swamped with complaints and subscription cancellation requests by their customers.
