I think he undoubtedly benefited that first year from an almost unprecedented and prolonged heater from Binnington. Still, he clearly didn’t get in the way of winning. The next three years (two of them Covid years) they averaged 103 points per 82 games. Unlike Bylsma, he did that without a Crosby or a Malkin. 

If we are expecting to become a playoff team and then a contender, then we will need to become a more balanced and more talented team. That is regardless of who the next coach is.

They fired him and still didn't make the playoffs - mayhaps he was not the problem?
