The AUD auction

Has anyone heard how the auction will be done? Will you have to be there, or will it be done on-line. I'm from out of town, but still have ticket stubs from a game in '71 vs. the Canucks. We were in the greys (before they raised the roof to add the oranges). I would love those two seats, but can't be there in November.

According to the linked Buffalo News article earlier in this thread, there will be an online facet to the auction.

That being said, with the city running the show, the chance of this thing getting screwed up are pretty good.

So it's been two weeks already:

August 22, 2008

Mayor Byron W. Brown and other city officials met with reporters outside the Aud today to discuss the time line. The city is requesting proposals from auction houses or other vendors to handle all facets of the sale, including an online auction to accommodate out-of-town bidders.

A company will be selected in three weeks, then will have 60 to 90 days to stage the auction. Brown said he expects the event to be held in late November or early December at a yet-to-be-determined location

We should hear by the end of the week who got the job - right red coats?

The city actually getting something done in the timeframe previously promised...not likely.

As a side note to the Aud auction, a lot of the metal panels on the exterior of the aud are already down. I know it has been closed for over 10 years and it should have been demolished shortly after the Sabres moved out, but the memories are still great.

If I get a chance, I will take some pictures in the next week or post them for those who are not in the area.

From yesterday

(WGR 550) -- If anything can be said for Buffalo, it's that the city doesn't let history go down without a fight.

The city and the Buffalo Convention Center will hold another proper goodbye to Memorial Auditorium with "Farewell Old Friend," a weekend celebrated of the vaunted building, according to The Buffalo News, which reports there will be "interactive games for youngsters, a sports memorabilia pavilion and chances to snare the autographs of some athletes who made their mark in the old Aud."

There will also be an auction of old Blue Section seats and dasher boards from the hockey rink. The auction will be followed a week later by an online auction that will allow for another 100 sets of cushioned seats, with another 700 sets of wooden seats auctioned at the convention center.

The report says that money raised from the auction will help create a downtown memorial to the Aud. Admission to the convention center will be five dollars for adults and three dollars for students, with children free.

more info, it's Nov 15 and 16th

http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories...22/daily41.html

A two-day festival, set for Nov. 15 and 16 in the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center, is planned for area residents to say ?au revoir? to the Aud. The festival will be highlighted by the auctioning off of 700 sets of wooden blue seats that were removed from the former home of the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Braves NBA franchise and Buffalo Bisons American Hockey League team, along with other items from the Aud.

Besides the auction, other Aud and Buffalo sports memorabilia will be on display and for sale. Admission to the convention center is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

One item that won?t be sold is the four-sided, blue and gold scoreboard that hung from the center of the building. Like the gold and red seats, it is loaded in mold and asbestos and been deemed a health risk, city officials said. It will be demolished along with the Aud.

Brown said only limited items from the Aud remain to be sold or auctioned off. A lot of items were siphoned off since the building closed in 1996.

?The building has been pretty well picked over and a lot has already been removed,? Brown admitted.

More snip for Buffalo News:

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced Wednesday that there will actually be two auctions for seats. Approximately 1,800 seats will be available in sets of two, three, four and five. 700 sets of the wooden seats will be up for auction at the convention center that weekend; another 100 sets seats will be up for auction on-line the following week, which allows people who weren't at the convention center to bid on seats.
