  1. I agree with all of this. People seem to fail to realize he signed the offer sheet to leave. He was leaving. He didn't come back to the team and say look this is what I've got or anything just signed. So none of the current situation should surprise anyone. I did enjoy some of his time and often felt let down by him. As good as he is you there's more that he can give but chooses to coast etc. Good luck TV.

    F Vanek, I like Moulson better. :P

(I'm only half kidding, I always really liked Matt Moulson.)

Vanek never seemed like the "heart and soul" guy who wills his team to a championship through blood, sweat, and tears. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just never got the impression he was that sort of player. Talented for sure, but if he wants out, he wants out. Build around guys who want to be a Sabre.

  2. Looking at the team stats on NHL.com paints a pretty grim picture. We're worst in the NHL in shots per game (25.1 - no one else is even close to that level of futility) and 2nd worst in shots against per game (35.7 - only Ottawa is worse).

Our team +/- is at -15 (only the Rangers are worse at -16). What is interesting is statistically we're a much worse team at home (-13) than on the road (-2).

  3. Wasn't he in the ridiculously deep 03 draft?

Yes, but the Preds had a similar setup to what Buffalo will have in that they had a 1st rounder (Ryan Suter #7 overall) plus 3 second rounders. Shea was the third of the three second rounders.

Ott is now full-time captain, as expected.

  4. On the face of it, it appears we got a more durable player who has similar production in the past 4 years along w/ a 1st and 2nd. For what appears to be a rental for the Isles. There has to be money behind the scenes of this trade....maybe we're eating 2-3M of Vanek's salary this year? He's making 6.4M in real money this year.

Durability is definitely a big difference between Moulson and Vanek.

I really like Moulson. I know most don't get to see a lot of Isles games, but Matt is always around the net and always scores "dirty" goals. Probably gone at the deadline, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by Moulson's game.

  5. Ok you're right about the time on when he should have been fired. He wasn't.

Send in the clowns. Where are the clowns? We'll maybe, they're here.

I don't need Darcy making another single decision for this team. Get out.

Here I am! I'll fire Darcy. Just give me the word, Terry. :flirt:

  6. I appreciate the honesty from the organization. If all these picks & prospects work out (ok most) you are looking at efficient rebuild.

    2014 1st rounder-2014 1st rounder (Vanek)-Armia

    Foligno-Hodgson-Girgensons

    Flynn-Larsson-2014 2nd rounder

    Tropp-Kea-???

    Risto-Ehrhoff

    Pysyk- Zadorov

    McCabe-Myers

    Enroth-Hackett

That's not including Grigorenko or any return on other players moved this season. I think we're going to be fine. It's just going to really suck for the foreseeable future.

I definitely like the defensemen in the system and think they can be a very strong group at some point. But, I don't see a dangerous offensive team emerging without significant additions/changes. IMHO, adding a #1 pick or two and substracting Vanek (the closes thing we have to a superstar now) probably doesn't get us up to the elite level for many, many years if at all. I also think it is presumptive to hope that we get a bunch of #1 picks and they all turn out to be elite scorers.

  7. Talking of. Kaleta has an in-person hearing today because of his hit at 3:10 last night. He is gone for 5+ games. Probably closer to 30 as it would be like the 100th time he was suspended

Again?! This is getting ridiculous... fortunately, it won't hurt the team by not having him in the lineup. We suck with or without Kaleta. :P

  8. You are far from the only one here describing him this way, and certainly it was accurate for parts of last year, but I think it's a substantial exaggeration at this point. (Although I could see that undeniable brain lock non-play he made on the TB OT winner sending him into a major funk.)

However, I also kinda think the Sabres drafting Risto and Nikita in the first round this year might mean that they aren't too confident anymore in Myers becoming a good #1 defenseman.

Good point. I think so as well.

Personally, I judge all players on value, i.e. how much do they produce relative to their pay. When people were hammering guys like Hecht and Sulzer on this board, I never joined in. Those guys are/were at the bottom of the pay scale and aren't/weren't paid to be stars. Tyler IS paid to be a star on this team. His cap hit puts him third behind Vanek and Miller. He is being paid to be a Norris-type guy and obviously isn't producing at that level...

...Of course, Tyler's contract is just another example of Darcy's complete failure as a GM.

  9. Big Tyler has no points and is a -4 through 4 games, while averaging almost 22 minutes of ice time per game. I'm tired of making excuses for the guy. He is starting his 5th year with the team and sports is a performance business... get it done or get someone in there who can do the job.

As far as I'm concerned, trade him now (if a taker can be found and he will waive his no movement clause) and give his ice time to Zadorov when he comes back from injury.

  10. Gaustad and Pominville reunite tonight in Nashville.

Both of them have a goal so far this year in two games.

    #ThatCoreIsStillRotten

I was at the game. Goose played really well as the 4th line center. Took all the big draws at the end of the game, of course. Pommer didn't really do much. He got mashed head first into the boards by Weber for coming too close to Rinne after one play (Weber got 2 for roughing). Kind of made me smile.

On another note, Seth Jones is the real deal. He led the Preds in ice time for the second game in a row and was very dangerous offensively. He can skate like anything and is a great passer. Made a few "rookie plays" in his own end, but overall was solid.

Filip Forsberg looked dangerous offensively in his first game of the year (he scored his first NHL goal). He, of course, was taken right before Grigo in the 2012 draft. Matt Dumba was out there for the Wild (#7 pick last year) and didn't do anything too awful as I recall.
