Yup. At this time of year every win is tough. No game is "easy" regardless of opponent or circumstances Yup. At this time of year every win is tough. No game is "easy" regardless of opponent or circumstances

Really 4, which should have happened as they had 2 breakaways and a 2-1 in OT that was stopped and then the rebound to Tuch for a wide open shot was stopped. 4 chances where the likelihood of them scoring would be in the 70+% range for each of them and they scored on none of them. Gotta score when you have that many easy chances to win. -

Nice comeback from a 2-0 deficit to get a point. Sabres had a multitude of great chances to end the game including 2 straight up breakaways by Tuch(shorthanded late in regulations) and Mittelstadt and another great chance or two from point blank range. Gotta finish those chances. Get a point tho and keep stacking. -

Watching Sabres, Bills, or Both tomorrow night?
Big Guava replied to Spoonman's topic in The Aud Club
Bills at the sports bar and probably checking in on Sabres every so often -
We need a version of Chris Drury here. Could you imagine what would have happened in that locker room the next day after a game like they had against Columbus? The entire team would have been afraid to even come to the rink to practice the next day. Probably wouldn't have been able to sleep because they would have been scared to death. He would have chewed up and spit out the entire team and they would all looked around and have been like "guess we better get our sh!t together" Until we have a captain where the kids are too afraid to come to work unprepared and trade in their gatherings at each other's houses playing Call of Duty for watching game film to prepare, it won't be consistent enough.

This team is clearly capable of that...too often they choose not to. Last year would be a better one to look at...they were elite on the road, this year they are kinda not great in either place.

I'd like our chances to outscore teams enough to win more than we lose. It happened last year and we would have made the playoffs if they didn't puke all over themselves at home. -
That style would have made the playoffs if they simply wouldn't have sucked so bad on home ice. That should be an advantage not a hindrance.

There's a reason why Kane did not sign with the Sabres

You know what would sell tickets? Playing at home like they did tonight more often than they play like did against Columbus. That would be a good start. This is not some bottom feeding team devoid of talent that needs a name player so fans will come. This is a highly talented team that simply needs to get their collective heads out of their @sses most nights and play up to their potential. -

Can someone please give this Bi-Polar Team their meds before the game on Saturday? Also the best forward without the puck. At 18, a little over 20 games into his NHL career. Extremely impressive. -

Yup, they simply either don't think they have to work hard in those games or don't bother preparing mentally because they think it will be a cake walk. Really no excuse for it. Clearly they have enough talent to have a much better record than they do, they simply don't have the will to have one. -

They can be a top 3 team in the division if they actually are serious about it and people are willing to do the work to make it happen. They can't if they allow this to simply be a good game and go back to their old ways again. -

C'mon Tage...gotta have better awareness of game situations there...Toronto doing nothing and mostly back on their heels still and you have a needless giveaway trying to be cute coming out of your zone that leads to a 2 on 1 and some scrambly play and now an O Zone faceoff... No need to do that...know when to take chances and when to make the simple plays that are the smart ones. I mean, that's how they do it against good teams...then we play mediocre and bad teams and play like hot garbage. -

They've already beaten the NHL points leader at the time they played the game 8!! Times so far this year. Surely they shouldn't be getting their ass kicked by Columbus and Arizona if they are capable of that. -

This is why games like the other night make me so mad...they are fully capable of playing with and beating the best teams in the NHL. There is no reason they can't play like this more often. They simply don't want to. When will this team embrace working hard and playing to their potential instead of hiding from it? -

After the latest loss, what does accountability look like?
Big Guava replied to Porous Five Hole's topic in The Aud Club
This team has no accountability. Everyone wants to be friends, nobody wants to be the A-hole in the room that gets in someone's face and tells them they are sucking and not pulling their weight. Ideally that's what Kyle or Z or E. Johnson or Clifton would do but I don't see it happening. I know E. Johnson said some stuff to the media but is he going to get into people's grills? That's what this team needs. Someone like Drury who they are afraid to play like that because you know he will attack you in a heartbeat over it. We can yell about changing the coach all we want, and sure, there is merit in that, but this falls squarely on the players. Until we have players and a captain that demands accountability from everyone in that locker room nothing will change. You can change coaches every month. Do you think for one second these players would be going out and playing in this manner every other game if Chris Drury was the captain? These players would be so afraid to come in to the building the next day after a game like last night they probably wouldn't be able to sleep because they would be terrified of having to face Drury after he couldn't sleep following a game like that. The accountability starts from the players and it starts with the captain and then the captain needs other players to help keep the group in line within their "groups". They say they respect Okposo to a man and love him...respectfully no the f**k they don't. There is no way in the world they would be playing like this if they did. Maybe Okposo isn't the type of captain they need...maybe they need a bulldog like Drury was who would put the fear of God into you if you ever played that way...heartless, gutless, no effort, not caring. It doesn't take any level of skill to actually try and put forth a good effort. To skate hard and backcheck. To forecheck. To be accountable for being in the right position at the right time on plays. To not keep making the same stupid mistakes over and over again. To be mentally prepared to play a hockey game and to be a professional. This comes down to the players in that room and the person leading them. Okposo needs to be stripped of the captaincy and these players need to be shook out of their complacency. I am sure plenty of guys will be coming into to practice with smiles on their faces laughing and joking today...they need a captain who will get in their faces and ask them what the F they have to be smiling and joking about after a game like last night. That's not Okposo. Too many of these players are sitting around singing "Hey look Ma, I made it!" after getting big paydays and resting on their laurels instead of making sure they go out and earn it every night. This team CLEARLY has the talent and the capabilities to be far better than they are. There is no way in the world this team should consistently play well and beat the best teams in the NHL and then get dragged thru the mud against mediocre and bad teams the way they do so often. This is preparation and mindset failure. They think they are big shots after a win against a good team and then they sit around high fiving each other for a few games instead of getting their noses back to the grindstone.
