Lots of.....PROSPECTS!! 🤣
Uh oh, we could be in for more of the dreaded "prospect talk"!

I wouldn't hold his AHL points per game against him just quite yet - he wasn't quite a featured piece of the Amerks last season. That being said, I voted potential depth piece down the road. Comparisons to Peca and/or Gaustad are silly at this point because he hasn't shown that he is anywhere close.
-
Watched him a bit in the 3v3 tournament and the first two games of the prospect challenge. Was really my first exposure to his game, but his defensive prowess really shone in the prospect challenge. Even in the 3v3 tournament he didn't look out of place, but I do wonder if his offensive upside might have been a bit exaggerated there b/c he was playing with the clear best team (he had benson, neuchev, and a few others on the team if my memory serves me correctly). His game kind of reminded me of muel a bit, felt like he was good at separating the other team's player from the puck and then making the pass.
I'm guessing that at a minimum he will be a capable third pair guy, with enough upside to potentially be more. He's definitely an NHL level talent and I expect him to look the part in Rochester.

So what's his impression of Levi? The real deal, or a real risk?
After hearing him talk, I came away thinking that a goalie styled like Levi might actually be an ideal goalie for the Sabres. With the Sabres playing so open and having a lot of transition into and out of the zone, it allows goalies quicker smaller goalie to have more success. Whereas when you slow things down, he can be screened easier and will have a harder time because of his size seeing the puck/shots.

I haven't listened in months. But I know they are capable of good shows, especially when they interview players....JR being the exception.
I skip the episodes featuring JR for obvious reasons. Guy is awful.
The one episode that I really enjoyed was the Scotty Bowman interview. Scotty is still super tuned into the NHL and had some really interesting things to say. I don't know when the exact date that the episode aired was.. but it's definitely worth a listen. He had a really interesting take about Devon Levi and seemed to be really familiar with Levi's career to date. I was, honestly, taken aback regarding how much he seemed to know about the situation and the insight he had about Levi

Kyle Allen is a nightmare. I don't know what the Bills bid on Trey Lance (it didn't work), but they need a backup on the team like right now.
People are always so concerned about the Bills backup QB. The Bills, like any other team with an elite QB, are screwed if the starter QB goes down, regardless of who is the backup QB. Imagine the Chiefs without Mahomes, Bengals without Burrow, etc. Any one of these teams is screwed without the QB. When such a huge percentage of your salary goes towards paying one elite player, if they go down.. things aren't going to go well. The only meaningful contribution the backup QB is going to have is helping prepare Allen. You can find exceptions where backup QBs have stepped in and have been great, but in general.. your QB goes down you are screwed. The Bills season revolves around Josh Allen staying healthy

Murray looked like an NHLer in his 20ish game stint with the Sabres last time he got a call up. His points from last year were about the same as Rousek's in the AHL.. and people believe Rousek to be ready. He had 1 less goal than Kulich.
I'm not saying Brett Murray is going to be Quinn's replacement, but it's not super crazy to think he is in the running.

The idea is to give him PP minutes but have his weaknesses compensated by the old sages on the team. His goal scoring will go down, but it might be less of a net negative.
Yes, but if you're minimizing his ability to score goals and not even playing him on PP1.. wouldn't it be better to just have someone who may score a little bit less but not be such a defensive liability (and maybe even chip in more assists)? That way you don't have to saddle the fourth line with dead weight and have a line you can constantly throw out there in defensive zone starts and not have to worry about VO?

Given Olofsson's weaknesses, might it be best to play him with Girgensons and Okposo when he is in the line-up?
If you are going to hide him on the fourth line AND he isn't likely to get PP1 minutes, what's the point of even having him?
-
I don't often have strong negative opinions of players, but I just don't believe Olofsson is the answer for the Sabres. I understand the reasoning behind potentially keeping him, but I'm still hoping he is traded prior to the season. I would prefer giving almost anyone that can play some defense a shot at Quinn's position, including many of the current Rochester players.

Pretty awesome for the area, there's definitely some local talent that will benefit from this.
Related: Rochesterian was just drafted by the Bruins (Ryan Walsh, 6th round). Had a pretty good USHL year last year and going to play for Cornell next. https://www.thegazette.com/minor-league-sports/ryan-walsh-gets-more-than-he-expected/

Couldn't be more excited about ZB after watching the dev camp 3v3 tournament. He was by far the best player on the ice during the tournament. His play just jumped off the screen and you could tell every time he was in because he was directly impacting the game (do keep in mind we were missing several recent 1st round picks at dev camp, but I highly doubt they would have looked better than he did). ZB is going to be a gamer for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the Sabres before Savoie.
The best way to describe him IMO is relentless. He is relentless in hounding the puck and pressuring the D with his puck handling/passing. This guy is going to be good.

standouts for me:
Benson: active stick, persistent on defense forcing turnovers, electric with puck. not fast, but definitely quick
Ratzlaff: kept Martin in games, despite them getting outplayed elsewhere
Novikov: size jumps out at you. you wouldnt expect him to be super effective in 3v3, but he played surprisingly well. even scored a few pinching in
Kisakov/richard: kisa seemed to be in the right place at the time on offense a bunch of times. richard had a bunch of chances and buried a few
neuchev, marjala, and jrb: along with benson, team robert kept possession a large part of the time. they were all very effective passers/puck carriers
couple other players that i thought played well: mccarthy had his moments, other savoie looked good, ryan johnson seemed to get into the flow in the final, constantini had a couple nice rips

My god Benson reminds me of Skinner.
Robert wins it
He really jumped off the screen when he had the puck. Didn't make any huge plays, but he did have the puck quite a bit. Robert had the puck probably like 60-70% of the time. Also, his stick was pretty active. You can tell that he has some defensive chops
-
2-0 Martin. McCarthy/Karlson goals. Robert seems to be dominating possession but not scoring
2-1 Novikov scores. good cut to the net
2-2. JRB scores.
Ratzlaff keeping Martin in it
3-2 JRB scores again on a nifty move with less than 30s

2-2. 2x Richard goals for Perreault. I missed who scores the second Martin goal, it was a last second goal to tie with their goalie out. Shootout. Sardarian ends it in the shootout with what I believe was the first goal?
