  1. Gotta get the next one. A young team has to keep it close. On Comrie, what I’ve seen this season so far is that he is a back up.
  2. Cuzzy has to bury that. Lots of energy in the Arena. I feel it from the TV.
  3. I think there were many things wrong with the rebuild and giving Jack the C was one of them. The first is the hiring and trusting of LaFontaine and Murray. It appears that although Pat hired Murray, they were not on the same page in their very brief time together.
  4. Happy to read she is now ok. I had an experience somewhat similar to this once, my wife had an anaphylactic reaction, I thought I was going to lose her. My wife is an RN and has been with many patients right to their end, and she see so many that die alone. Because she shared some stories with me, I know that my wife would be comforted by a priest/clergyman if ever in a life-threatening situation. This could be a learning moment for you. My guess is you were having a major anxiety attack, which is understandable. My wife and I have had that conversation on the inevitable end game, including all the planning that goes with it. It is not an easy topic to discuss and work through, but it is worthwhile for couples to have it.
  5. Savard was indeed a solid two-way player. But we had Rammer and then we drafted Ric Seiling the following year for the same purpose (leaving Mike Bossey on the board), both of them played a similar game to Savard. A big center and natural goal scorer like McNab was much harder to find than a two-way center that scored 18 to 20 goals. Dudley was a huge loss. I agree with that.
  6. When people talk about power forwards, I immediately think of James Worthy of the LA Lakers. Always seemed like a basketball term to me because there are so few in hockey. We have Cozens and Tuch. Another big forward that will hit people and has speed and scoring skills would never hurt. You have to draft these guys and then develop them.
  7. Must Win game and I really mean that. We have got to get off of this losing streak. This team has to stay in contention, and they have to make the fans happy. I will be watching, and I promise to represent the baby boom generation as best as I could by not booing the poor misunderstood superstar. I will call upon skills learned in my Boy Scout, my Alter Boy, my Paper Boy, and my bomb shelter training, to be very good tonight. I will be square and obey the laws of the pack. I swear this on my stack of Beatles records. I will be sure to feel empathy for his struggles, and I will make sure to marvel at his extreme skills. I feel that Eichel gets on the score sheet several times tonight and we lose a close one. I want to be wrong about this.
  8. Yes, it was a head scratcher. The teams traded "the rights" to McNab for the rights to Savard. Not sure if free agency was that free back then. McNab, Alan Haworth, Ray Sheppard - all bad trades by the Sabres involving forwards that they developed and did not hold on to.
  9. Just a typo on his name so do not question my memory on this. The Sabres did lay an egg the year after the Cup final and the fans wanted much more from them, like a SC win. Punch was mad at McNab, who was just a 2nd year guy, for speaking out to the press about fans booing. If Punch ties it to the Russian game in his book and "playing for Canada" comments, well I do not remember that at all. No other Sabre player got in trouble for that so there was much more to that trade. I probably went to almost every home game that year. I can tell you the fans were a bit spoiled by this time, like they expected 5 goals a game, and the Sabres did hear boo birds for the first time ever. For some reason young McNab felt compelled to speak out. You cannot look at it through today's lens, Punch was old school. Punch shipped Frank Mahavolich out of Toronto for less, he could easily trade McNab. I do think we lost that trade by a good margin. Savard was a solid two-way player, but McNab had the size and goal scoring knack that was rare for a center at the time (see Phil Esposito) and still is today. In the spirit of being less crusty, I will remove my "disagree" emoji to @Quint, and say welcome to the boards Quint! RIP Peter McNab.
  10. NcNabb was in Punch’s doghouse for publicly defending the teams poor play after the SC season. He spoke out about the booing of the teams mediocre play when expectations were then sky high. This is really what pissed off Punch. He was traded to Boston for Andre Savard, a solid player, but McNabb was a better scorer.
  11. You move him if you can improve somewhere else. It would be better if one of our young centers is ready, but none are right now. Winning would enable development.
  12. I saw Hinestroza on the first line and stopped reading.

  14. Interesting observations here as usual. I don't think they played nearly hard enough and the Yotes came in fired up and looking for 2 points to end a decent trip for them. The fluky goals - sure some of it is bad luck but some of it is the result of their own lethargic play. I saw no spark, no urgency. No one wants to go into the slot in the dirty areas. I don't like the line combo's and I especially don't like all the constant line changing. Put the top 6 together and give them time to gel. On defense I have seen enough of Pilut and Clagge, but injuries are part of the game so we press on with them. The next two home games are huge for this team. They need to win them to stay on a playoff contender pace. It is not too early to say that these are "must win" games, especially if they want to bring fans back. Thanksgiving is a few weeks away - I am hoping they are finally good enough to avoid the Holiday swoon that we see every season.
  15. I’ll be back Thursday and expecting a better effort. Put the lines back Don.
  16. I don’t know how they come out that flat after two road losses and rest at home. Terrible effort tonight. DG better start pushing the right buttons.
  17. Frustration is high for me tonight. Worst game of the year that I have watched. Down at home in the opening seconds and never threatened. The few fans there should get a rebate.
  18. The effort is unsatisfactory. This team needs something. No energy. I think they look bad. Rested and at home. This is bad.
