It's finally gametime. One would assume that the sabres would be a little rusty, but then again so would the jackets. I fully expect the sabres to win tonight, but the big story is the injuries. Do hecht, novotny, and/or tallinder return tonight? Do we get a more concrete timetable for connolly? Believe it or not, the majority of the season has been played, and we're officially in the beginning of crunch time now! Lindy knows this, the team knows this.. The sabres must fine tune their game and get ready for the playoffs. This starts tonight against the jackets. I forsee a power play goal, and a much improved unit. The last two games before the break reminded everyone that the sabres were indeed the "sleeping giant" and that the beast is stirring. Time to teach the blue jackets a lesson, tony danza style.

  2. Well, its time to unpin the all star thread... What have i learned this week?

    1) Vs sucks worse this year than last year.

    2) The rail cam blows.

    3) Black guys playing steel pedal guitars and hockey do not mix... but he did kick butt on that thing.

    4) Vanek showed no heart at the youngstars game... In fact, nobody showed heart. That game was wide open, and if it were played at 100% pace, it would be really exciting... the 50% effort we got just didn't add up, even though i had a good time watching it.

    5) Chara is tall. we get it. next story please.

5a) Ryan Miller is from East Lansing, Michigan, and someone he's related to is named Kip. Again, we get it. move on!

    6) Mic'd goalies is a great idea! Brodeur had a meltdown, including breaking his mic in the process of not making a save. Plus, Turco gave us the great "listen carefully because you just know he's gonna let an F-Bomb fly" period of hockey. Speaking of Turco, i was entertained by his banter.

    7) Make the all star game mean something... I hate the "winner gets home ice" like they have in MLB, but maybe move the game to a city that will fill the friggin arena? Buffalo can't support an all star game? give me a break... Buffalo draws a bigger crowd for the chicken wing festival than dallas did for the all star game.

    8) It pains me, yet excites me greatly to know that this was the last stress free hockey experience i will watch/go to till september!

    9) Danny Briere accepting an award from Gary Bettman... I forsee some deja vu, if you know what i mean!

Till Friday, when we tear Columbus a new one.

  3. Wow, Bettman is really screwing over Buffalo now! First he says that the no goal was good... then he gives Briere the MVP and drives his salary a few million $$ higher!

Seriously though, its nice that the MVP went to a guy who racked up a bunch of assists. Briere is awesome.

  4.

Yeah, I don't want to blame them for that tool of a rink announcer. But here's an idea, let's not give a player a bag of potato chips during an in-game interview. And how about announcing who assisted on a goal. (Nice assist Danny.)

speaking of the chips, my opinion on ovechkin has basically changed. He made a dumb mistake, he paid for it. Other than that, this is a kid who came over from another country and is having fun. Can't blame him for that. I thought the chips was entertaining. would have been more entertaining had he ate some chips off of that chick's cleavage.

  5. Don't know about everyone else, but I am not sold on the rail cam yet. I like the positioning it gets, but it's wayyyy too jerky.
Not sold on the rail cam, simply b/c I am already tired of watching it shoot along the rail and distract from the play...

It's way too "video game" for me... plus, i should not be required to take dramamine before i sit down to watch the game. This could be trouble if Versus gets the NHL to install that thing at the rinks for the playoffs. bad news...

  6. 8pm

    Versus, CBC

It's East vs. West with 5 Buffalo Sabres involved.

    Daniel Briere, Starting Forward

    Brian Campbell, Starting Defense

    Ryan Miller, Starting Goalie

Lindy Ruff, Head Coach for Eastern All Stars

Rip Simonek, Equipment Manager for Eastern All Stars

What do i hope for? Obviously ZERO INJURIES!!! I also hope for our guys to score some major goals, make some great saves, win, get the MVP, and leave ovechkin's skates with some broken blades and his sticks warped (Git'R Done Ripper!!!)

Should be a good time had by all! The only stress free hockey game till next September!

  7. not sure if already posted, but ...

    ...from NHL.com...

"Briere tied it at 3 with his second goal of the game 8:37 into the third.

He got credit for his 18th of the season when Campbell's point shot deflected off his left skate and inside the left post."

uhhmm, no...it clearly went in off his blade after 98,000 replays and a call to toronto.

well, the press got it wrong on friday night too when they stated that "pyatt scored a goal". But, i digress.

  8. It's a tough loss to come back from 0-3 and then to lose 4-3 on a goal that was caused by the opposition out hustling us to the puck., But, i'll take it going into the all star break. Briere looks to be off of his schnide, paetsch is playing better, paille and stafford are playing to stay, and did i mention we're getting healthy? Hecht and Tallinder appear ready to return for columbus, with novotny not far behind. Plus you have tim connolly who sounds like he'll be ready to go in the next month or so. I'll last night's loss. it gives the team something to think about during the break.

  9. 7pm

Well, the sabres will either come out completely dead tired, or they'll come out like they did during the 3rd period of last night's game. I really don't think there'll be an inbetween. The sabres are still a wounded animal though, so montreal has a lot to be worried about. However, they didn't have to play last night, so they'll be rested. I don't really have a feel for how this one will end up, so i'll just watch the game, with the fresh reminder to never change the channel in the last minute of play. Never can you count these guys out!
