Doesn't Power rank really high in entry denials? I bet we see Power as the rooming denial defender and Clifton as the defender who is behind him in case he loses or there's a passing option.
This signing is great.
It’s nice that both top pair LDs will have conservative RDs behind them. Consistency across the line up has a lot of hidden value.

Joki is the only one with trade value. Bryson is just odd man out. Stillman played really well in our system and probably earned the minutes. I would keep Lyub around and let us play with one less forward- the forwards can play the waiver rotation game anyway.

I’m starting to wonder if Adams isn’t setting up for a bigger overhaul than we thought:
We now have 5 goalies and 9 defencemen.
We’ve moved on from Clague and Anderson already and Im wondering how many of Boosh, Stillman, Bryson, Jokiharju, Comrie and UPL will be elsewhere before the fall.
Everyone was in general agreement that the crease and the blueline needed change but I don’t know that we expected the change to be sweeping.
It’s hard at this point to believe both UPL and Comrie make it to the season. Also expect a defenseman to disappear or an injury we haven’t heard of announced.
The overhauls are nice- developing for the sake of developing seems over. With this mindset I would think a depth forward would be in play, but Geekie signed elsewhere. Day isn’t over yet.

Gudas to the west coast is great. Can’t stand watching him play, now relegated to only two games per year.
I wish we would bring a Compher back. Help out our PK

You mean two of the primary forward PK’ers who were part of one of the worst units in the NHL last season?
Right. I was not happy with either signing.

Amazing upgrade over Bryson. Former #1OA to mentor our pair. By no means does Granato have to pick which struggling rookie to give 10 minutes a night. Great signing even if he’s spent, he isn’t going to be relied upon.

This is perfect. I was getting worried cause any mention of rumor of him had dropped off the last 6 months for a bunch of other defenseman that didn’t simply just plug the hole with no qualifiers or other scenarios it creates like Clifton does. KA is an all star GM.

What do the fancy stats say about UFA forwards who excel at PK and would fill a spot on the Sabres roster.
We re signed Okposo and Girgensons and plugged that slot.

Opposite of what they usually pick. Interesting selection. Wonder what fancy stat we aren’t seeing or whether this was a traditional scout deferment

No prospect pick. Puts even more need on filling this gap

Not sure how anyone can get mad about what it took for cup teams. Buffalo has been the biggest component involved in some of the biggest trades that quickly turned into a cup for a team (ROR, Eichel, almost Reinhart). If anything teams should be mad at us for giving away elite talent that usually isn’t available in the trade market to put teams over the top.
But really, Vegas getting March and Stone and circumventing the cap is the type of crap that never should have happened.

Does anybody else think the NHL should move their draft back a couple of weeks to be held AFTER the free agent signing period has opened like the NFL does it?
Teams would know better what holes they expect to have 2-3 years down the road and could draft accordingly.
It would likely cut down on the number of trades during the draft, but if the trades came in the week or so leading up to the draft does that really matter?
The trades is what brings the excitement. GMs want to know what deals are available before signing UFAs to fill the holes afterwards. GMs are still holding their cards whether they are rebuilding or not up until draft day. If you move UFA first then bunch of teams are going to just be ready to pick and not deal.

Yes it is possible with the most likely scenario being he starts the year in Rochester and gets recalled when an injury strikes in Buffalo.
That said is anyone really comfortable with any of these scenarios heading into next season? 1. Levi/UPL tandem (53 games of NHL experience), 2. Levi/Comrie tandem (54 games of NHL experience) 3. UPL/Comrie (93 games), 4. levi/Comrie/UPL (100 games). PS: In UPL’s and Comrie’s combined 93 games they carry a Save % of .898.
Yes I am comfortable with Levi playing 60 games.

Is the consensus that we should trade the pick?

Think it’s the opposite of giving the kids a chance to compete. The reason given why we gave Krebs half a season of AHL level play despite it hurting the team until he figured things out, which guess what, was enough to be the difference between playoffs or not.
Whatever, 1 year and a culture fit.

Peace is good but I’m not so eager to pay a premium just to pay him a large contract

If you look at where the league was when Bettman took over… Versus what it is now… it’s quite incredible.
yes he does missteps from time to time. You could even say some poor decisions. But overall… The owners of the franchises… Absolutely love him. I have always found it immature and lame when fans boo Gary Bettman. And they really have no solid logical reason for doing so. Grow up.
Bettman is a gaslighting piece of *****. His interview about board ads at the start of the season was “maybe the fans should stop staring at the boards and watch the game instead of complain”. Tells you everything about him. He deserves every boo

Trade for the defensemen. This years free agency is a cesspool. They all have warts, and you'll be overextending yourself for something that hasn't been seen in a minimum of 3 seasons. Dumba is an adequate 4th defensemen. He's a decent enough physical player. However, he's injury riddled, his offensive game has dried up, and he's living on previous seasons. He's one of the top guys. I wouldn't touch him with a fork. I would pay some for Gudas, but he has to want to come here.
The FA pool is fine.

UPL and their second is a deal I’d be happy with. And I’m 100% sold on Levi

We are riding Levi do or die. Why do we waste text over another goalie?

Guy who spent four years in college wanted to spend another month to graduate. Total non story. Sabres all the way.

Eichel and Reinhart are both on stacked teams. Here they had to be THE guys. They don’t have that pressure now. Depth is everything.

Nice. Need the depth in the position. Still, signing a vet UFA top4 D is a need this off season. No more waiting

Was excited to see the new blood and he simply gets in the way. I don’t dislike him as a player but he doesn’t excite me either. The letter makes scratching or cutting him even more awkward. Thought we were over this by now
