    Cross posting for Amerks fans.

Apparently Pegula’s pride in Rochester has taken a hit.

    This sucks.
My take: you can’t make money running an antiquated, million-year-old arena so here’s the keys to everything but the locker rooms.

The arena is in desperate need of a dramatic makeover.  And while I’m not a billionaire and think differently than billionaires, this sucks. The Rochester partnership won’t effect his overall wealth. Pegula opting out means he’s counting small zeros when his legacy could have made a dramatic difference to ROC.

    Pegula pride? LOL nah.

But unlike “sell the team,” Rochester may not be able to afford that. Sigh.

I’m not sure what sucks about this. What did the Pegula’s do running the arena that was noteworthy at all? Good riddance. Has no impact on the Amerks. Hopefully whoever comes in does more.

For Him or the Amerks ?

pretty sure he did the same thing last year and that turned out ok.

he was the captain of the team and learnt a lot going to the WJC.

Both. Did nothing for his career.  He went two months without a goal. Had he stayed and kept scoring, would he be closer to a call up? 100%. And as someone who listens to Apperts interviews, he’s made it very clear, without actually saying it, that he hated him going. It’s screwed up his year. And for what? He went to the WJC last year. How many second year pros go to the world juniors? It was a bad call.

It's everyone's dream to win gold for their country don't be that guy

It’s adversely affecting his season. I don’t blame him at all for wanting to go. But Adams needed to be the adult in the room and explain that going to the WJC and then flying across the country for the all star game was a terrible idea.

They beat Laval at home on Nov 23 & 25th.  Guess how many home games they’ve had since then? Three before last night. You’re inventing reasons to be mad. It’s almost like you enjoy it.

I hear you on the trend.  But they’re the reigning division champs and conference finalists. Veterans throughout the roster.  This team deserves the benefit of the doubt to get things figured out.

This has been the most successful 2.5 year period in Amerks hockey in a generation.

But hey, guys like contempt, SabreMike and Amerks6969 flame away. Burn it all down. Everything sucks and no one is trying to win. Enjoy your echo chamber thread of negativity.  I’ll leave you to it.

It was pulled from the Kevin O article.  Even so, everything else said is accurate. I don’t care about giving them the benefit of the doubt. No one would say anything similar if this were the Sabres and a similar situation.

    Y’all need to chill.
Hershey is the best team in the AHL at 26-6-0. The Amerks hung tough, but they were by no means supposed to win this game nor were they the better team.

They have 5 regulation wins. 5! They haven’t won in regulation since November. They haven’t won a home game since November 18th. This team is miserably bad. Who cares if they hung with Hershey? Hershey did what great teams do on the road, they played a simple game and waited for the Amerks to make a mistake, which of course they did with 6 minutes to go, and took advantage.

  6. I am incensed at Appert for when he pulled the goalie. Absolutely ridiculous. The Amerks are just crossing the red line with 2 minutes to go and he’s waving frantically for Cooley to come to the bench. Meanwhile the Amerks turned the puck over at the blue line and that’s all she wrote.  I hate this coach.

I know this is a game thread, but the Amerks have too many vets on D to have given up the second most goals against in the AHL.

ROC is now 11-5-2, and have a winning percentage of .667. The teams sandwiched around them in the GA category have a win percentage of .389 & .412.  This organization needs to figure out how to systematically improve team defense.
The Amerks are giving up more than four goals a game on average.

Their record is a complete fluke. Bad team bailed out by 3-4 exceptional offensive players.

To everyone talking about defensive issues this season, are we going to ignore injuries and the never-ending lineup changes? The org was so desperate that we played Metsa as a forward… for multiple games. At the start of the with a healthy roster the team was far better defensively. It’s an issue, but it’s not as bad as it’s being made out to be when all circumstances are considered.

Zero excuse for literally being the worst defense in the league. They’re playing guys that should be excellent defensemen at this level. Clague, Prow, Stillman, Davies etc. They’ve all been healthy. It’s just a bad system and bad coaching.

Not to mention, they’ve been bad defensively all year. When healthy, banged up. Doesn’t matter. Bad since opening game.

With so many NHL capable defensemen and a seemingly decent goalie (Tokarski), why are they giving up so many goals?  I thought that side of things would be improved this year for the Amerks

It’s Appert. 22nd defensively in the league last year. 30th the year before. They turn the puck over nonstop, and they play a very passive style defensively. They collapse very low, never pressure the puck carrier. It results in a lot of zone time for the opponent, lots of free shots from the point, and tons of rebounds. That’s just my amateur opinion, but people should take note next time they watch the Amerks how passive they play defensively. It’s clearly doesn’t work, and Appert is either too stubborn to adjust, or the Sabres are mandating they play this terrible style.

I’ve lived in five states now and I’ve yet to find any hot dogs close in quality to sahlens. If you buy beef sahlens, maybe, but the pork blend can’t be touched.

    Wawa is also super overrated.

I prefer Zweigles and Hoffmans personally, but Sahlens are solid as well. Can’t go wrong with any of them.

We need solid role players in the bottom 6 and as I understand it, we don't have any in Rochester. We don't have any anywhere.

In my opinion, the Sabres should be signing those AAAA type players to play in Rochester and challenge the bottom 6. The Sabres sign zero players like this. There’s basically no competition at all. Biro and Rousek are nice players, but they’re a dime a dozen players at the NHL level.

Appert says they intentionally don’t sign too many (any?) veteran players so as to not block the prospects. I think you have room for both. Why was Justin Richards signed? He offers nothing. He’s a mediocre AHL player that barely moves the needle even in Rochester. That contract could’ve been given to a player that could’ve pushed for a bottom 6 spot.

The Sabres just don’t act like an NHL team enough. They’re too comfortable with the players they have.

What’s the corresponding roster move if Comrie is back in? Those lineup don’t indicate anyone being sent down. Krebs takes the Rousek spot and he’s sent down until Benson is returned to the WHL?

Levi or Johnson down are really the only options.

He has only played 6 games and the Sabres would have to purchase his contract, but we have plenty of cap and extra contract space to get if done.

    He’s hurt.

I suggested calling up Mersch.  He is a career AHL vet who is a pt a game player in the AHL but isn’t playing much because of the AHL vet rules.

Why not give him a try and see if he can inject a spark into the bottom six.

Not playing much? He’s like the top player in the team, the captain, and gets as much ice time as anyone.

I was at the game last Friday where the Amerks blew the lead late and Toker gave up the OT game winner on a horrible goal. Every game I go to, the other teams goalies always look so much better.

Yeah that was a bad goal, but he’s very good and really the only reason they won in Syracuse last week and last night. The Amerks are terrible and he’s given them their only decent goaltending this season.

5-0 now. There isn't one decent goalie in the entire organization. Just pray they don't ruin Levi by throwing him right into the NHL.

Tokarski is very good in the AHL. He should’ve played tonight. Cooley is awful and he was an awful signing. Terrible miss by whoever suggested signing him.

I also posted this in the wagon thread: the Amerks are 5-1-1 to start the season & all without their number one goalie.

They’ve gotten terrible goaltending from Houser, and average at best from Cooley. Tokarski should be back this week and provide some stability.

Amerks only have a +2 goal differential and have the league’s worst defense and PK. They’re not going to score 5 every game. They really need to tighten it up defensively.

I don't watch Rochester but I am curious. Does Rochester play a wide open fast offensive attack game or do they play 2 way hockey?

imo the AHL is where they should be teaching these kids defense.

They play irrationally wild hockey. No regard whatsoever for defense or managing the puck. In Apperts defense, they usually tighten it up come playoff time, but it’s just a very irresponsible system at the moment.

Dinosaur (only been to the Ra-cha-cha location) has very good ribs and brisket.  Lived in TX for a while, thought it compares very favorably.

A lot of people in Ra-cha-cha prefer Sticky Lips to Dino.  Not one of them, but that is good too.

Original Sticky Lips on Culver was great. But it’s just not very good anymore. Good Smoke is a good option in Rochester as well.
