I would be shocked if Josefson was sent to Rochester. Very unlikely. I also think Deslauriers will make the Sabres as the 13th forward, but he's a little more likely to be waived.Sexton and Jbot are smart guys and it is already showing in some very subtle ways.
I looked at our potential roster for the AHL to see who might slot where, thinking this would give me an idea of which vets we could send down to the AHL and play them. The AHL is a developmental league and has veteran rules. According to the AHL, each team can dress only 5 players with more then 320 pro game experience (including NHL, AHL, ECHL, KHL and other Euro elite league if the player was over 19), 1 player with more then 260 games but less then 320 and 12 players with 260 games or under.
The Sabres have 12 prospects that have under 260 games. Bailey, Fasching, ERod, Baptiste, Cornel, Karabacek, Smtih, Nelson, Stephens, Martin, Guhle, Nylander, plus recent signees Danforth and Criscuolo. Furthermore, and this is where Sexton and Jbot show their skills, they signed KHL vet Steve Moses. Moses only has 228 games of pro experience, therefore can be slotted into one of the developmental slots. Smart.
The Sabres two semi vets that slot into the 260-320 game catagory in Griffith (261) and Tennyson (283).
The Sabres have also inked 4 vets Porter and Paetsch (500 games plus each+), Fedun (331), and Josefson (338). plus have Goloubef (348) on a PTO.
Granted prospects can take up all 18 skater slots each net, but it looks like the Sabres may have room to send 1-2 guys down and give them PT. However with Paetsch, Fedun and Tennyson already slotted top play in the AHL, if anyone NHL vet gets sent down it will likely be a forward. Delo maybe, but most likely Josefson if Reinhart is the 3rd line center. Sorry to say Gorges and Moulson and their 8.9 mill in unproductive cap space are destined for the Sabres.
Ultimately, the Amerks veterans to start the season will likely be Griffith, Porter, Fedun, Falk, Tennyson and Paetsch. They also have Andrew MacWilliam and Conor Allen who are both veterans. Sending an additional vet down like Josefson or Deslauriers would create a bad situation and I doubt Botterill does that.

All the vets like Deslauriers, Gorges and Moulson will make Buffalo. Deslauriers is a good 13th forward who can sit in the press box for long stretches and play here and there against a bigger or more physical team.
Just can't see any of them getting waived to Rochester. It doesn't accomplish much and creates a veteran problem in Rochester. Injuries will eventually make all of them necessary and the prospects will get their chance as well.

Yes. He just won a Calder Cup with Grand Rapids. He's very good at the AHL level. He's still playing?
-
Issue now is the veteran rule. Depending on how things shake out, Amerks may need to sit a couple vets each night. Usually this takes care of itself relatively quickly with injuries and call ups. That's a nice veteran signing for Rochester.

Amerks just signed Nathan Paetsch. The defense looks very promising on paper.

Genesee is releasing a bourbon barrel aged old ale. Looking forward to that one.

RistolainenWho is 1-8?
McCabe
Scandella
Bogosian
Antipin
Beaulieu
Gorges
Guhle/Falk

At best he'd be 8 on the depth chart, more likely 9.

A lot of great beers on tap. Heard their own milk stout is really good but they had limited quantities and it may have kicked by now.Going to training camp practice this afternoon, then heading north to WhichCraft Brews in Webster. Haven't been yet but heard it's a great place

This is a great signing. The Amerks are looking good. I'd like one more solid bottom 6 forward and they should be set. Or one more NHL forward signed for Buffalo.
-
Defensively, this means Stephens, Florentino and Martin are in the ECHLI wonder if some of these are for Cincy ECHL.
-
Murray signed a few good players on July 1st and ignored the Amerks and organizational depth otherwise. Here's a great example. Casey Nelson made the Sabres out of camp last season. Right now? He's the Amerks 5th defenseman.I honestly thought GMTM did a decent job filling the Amerks roster. Injuries and call ups killed them last year and anyone worth a damn left either didn't bother to show up or quit.
-
They had those on July 1st though. The veteran rule is a pain. They can't really make anymore high profile signings as they're at the veteran limit right now.Not exactly high profile AHL signings

This isn't a Penguins connection, it's a Rochester connection.Another WilkesBarre connection. Knows what Bots wants and how he wants the players to be developed.
On paper looks like a good move. We'll see.

Botterill has spoken repeatedly about making Rochester a competitive team again. Fedun is a part of that. If he's seeing significant time in Buffalo, there will be several injuries leading to it.
-
I think I'll take his sample size in Rochester versus what he briefly showed in Buffalo. Not when he got up with the big club last year... Speed nothing great, but showed a mean streak..
-
Brady Austin is slow and, despite his size, plays a soft and timid game.
-
Fedun is definitely starting with the Amerks. 8th or 9th D on the depth chart likely. Falk ahead of him and I expect the Sabres to bring in at least 1 more NHL defenseman.Depth defender is a guy on the farm available for spot duty as an injury call-up, etc...
At this point Fedun is in the mix to earn a fulltime spot on the big club out of camp.

As a long time Amerks STH this is by far the most optimistic I've been in a long time. Maybe since 2009. I love what Botterill is saying and he has a track record of actually backing it up.
