  1. 12th in save % at .920 (Nilsson 10th at .923 only 26GP)

GAA 2.68 31st in the league

13th in the league for TOI at 3405:28

3rd in shots at 1928 and in saves 1758

2 shutouts good for 34th in the league.

23 wins is at 23rd league wide.

I'd give him 3x4M and if he doesn't want it let it go to the arbitrator. I believe since he elected we could choose 1 or 2 year deal

  2. I feel like I'm going a little crazy reading all these positive takes on Ennis.

I love the guy. He should retire.

I think alot of the mentality has to do with him being the longest tenured sabre. All the built up resentment from the last several years you know what I mean?

Imagine we just picked him up in a trade for a 7th, go back look at highlights and his stats. He can help the offense, and yah his cap sucks but were up for a restructure in 2 years anyway.

  3. I assure you, the past 2 seasons opposing defensemen breathe sighs of relief when Ennis hits the ice.

2015/16 23 games 11 points. Basically sums up the season.

16/17 51 games 13 points. So clearly a bad season, wasn't in game shape for much of it.

Injuries are one thing, but going around saying he can't skate anymore is another(not implying you're saying that). Give the guy a chance to really get healthy and in shape. 35+ points isn't a stretch by any means and I fully expect him to achieve that this season.

  4. Step-1 Do whatever it takes to get Bogo in Vegas, they are probably taking a serious look at taking him anyway.

Step 2- Make a run at Shattenkirk, 6x6M. I'd go up to 7x6.25M if it had to. He's definitely capable of earning that contract, we would have the room for it. Not usually one to want to make a big splash in free agency but he can move the puck and is great offensively. He'd still have trade value on that contract for 5 years.

Step 2B-(If 2 fails) Add another dman, ideally through free agency if not by trade.

    Step 3- offense...

  5. I think it's about 40% likely that he turns out to be an average starter, about 30% likely that he's well above average, and about 15% each that he's either a washout or a star.

And for that, there is NFW I want to commit to $4MM x 4 years or even 3.

The team was historically bad when Ennis was coming into his own in the NHL. He's missed the better part of 2 years with injuries but before that he had elite speed, good to very good hands and a nice edge.

I agree with most of this, although I think you oversimplified about Ennis' significant cap hit not counting. The Sabres can't just drop him on LTIR whenever they like. It has to be for a significant, long-term injury.

Yeah you're right, it's not like whenever he's playing bad we can just throw him on LTIR. By the same token though,if he were to suffer a severe concussion it is the route we would take. Bottom line is our offense is too weak to let a player with Ennis ability go for nothing.

As for Lehner, I think it's a pretty safe bet he can provide NHL average #'s if his workload isn't too full. Potentially I see him as an above average starter.

4x4M could turn out to be a steal, or he might be a slightly overpaid backup. Personally is be willing to take the risk at 4×4M. I'd prefer a 3x3.5M ideally, doubt it'll happen. Most decent starters are in the 5+M range. If JBot thinks he's a starter I predict a 5×4.5M. If he thinks he's still unproven, 2x4M.

  6. Some of my opinions...

Ennis has too much offensive potential, and would have been selected by Vegas. When he's healthy he can contribute offensively, when he's not, his salary doesn't count against the cap.

Carrier is a dime a dozen player, would be nice to keep but I wouldn't blink if we lost him in the draft.

Bogo has 0 value. He's overpaid and the dude isn't a good defenseman. A new coach isn't going to be able to change his attitude and work ethic. Pay Vegas a 2nd rounder and pray it's enough to get him off the team!!

Winnipeg protecting Myers is a no brainer, unquestionably 3rd best defenseman on the team. I strongly believe if enstrom didn't waive, they were trading a defenseman.

Ullmark may be selected, not because he's an amazing prospect, but because it's him or carrier(pray for bogo). Ullmark has yet to prove anything in the NHL

  7. Lists must be submitted by 5pm EST today. Can resume trading with Vegas ONLY at 10am tomorrow morning. At 10am the lists will be released to all teams. Lists will be made public tomorrow as well I believe.

Thought that was next weekend but ya that's the draft. Ana will be losing a good player unless they pull something I guess

  8. We did not make another trade before 3pm if sources are right. So the defense we have are the ones we can protect. I would assume we protect McCabe, Risto, and Baloo. Vegas probably won't take Bogosian but could.

I think if we could somehow convince them to take Bogo that would be huge for us

Also, is it today the lists needed to be submitted??

  9. Very familiar with Beaulieu I watch alot of mtl games. Has a nice upside, could become a 2nd pairing guy on a good team. I see him now as a 3rd pairing guy on a good team though. I could see him getting top 4 mins I'm defense, I'm hoping he's on the 3rd pairing because we picked up another capable guy or 2. IMO has a tendency to make bad plays and sort of snowball effect his play the rest of the game.

That being said, love the trade. Good on JBot. He's got an opportunity here, and a 3rd is a good deal for both teams. RFA too, shows good asset management

  10. ?

Sure it does. How much can a coach learn about his players who aren't in town until September if he gets the job at the en of June? He'll have some knowledge but he won't be able to figure out the chemistry of that team for a little.

Didn't see you reply when I posted, seemed like I copied what you said

  11. Why? We get a defender who's clearly better (Seriously, I'm working on a project and watching a bunch of Canes games and he's utterly phenomenal) and Aho just put up a 49 point rookie season at 19, compared to Samson's 43 point rookie season and 47 point sophomore one.

Let me know when the project is done. I'd like to see how Slavin is clearly better then Risto. I like Slavins game but Risto has all kinds of offensive potential

Convince me Slavin is better then Risto.

As for Aho, I love him but I am not sold on selling out on Sam.

    Sorry my bad

  12. I think Sam will be fine. I wouldn't trade him to Chicago. I'd trade him to Anaheim for Fowler or to Carolina for Hanifin and a pick but that's about it.

I'm with you on Sam. Unreal anyone would be willing to ship hum for anything less them a absolute stud Dman. Trade anyone else but him and Eichel and Risto. Kid is going to be a damn good hockey player for years and years.

I'm usually impressed by your player evaluations but I think you're a tad too hard for Fowler. I mean he's sensational sure, however he's streaky and seems to only play hard nearing a new contract. Hanifin has significantly more value then Fowler IMO. A contract would help even it out a bit but still would much much rather hanifin

  13. OK, but that's a pretty big "if."

Serious question: do you think Kane is holding his teammates back from greater success?

This is fair. I suppose I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that the Sabres oughta be able to get a real player who's ready now in exchange for Kane.

Tough question, I think he plays a selfish game on the ice, but lots of shooters do. I'm not a fan of how many shots he takes from low percentage areas, too many of them are easy to block. Other then that when he's on the ice he's a good player. More skilled then a large percentage of the NHL, however I doubt he will ever reach his ceilling.

The effects of a locker room cancer are well documented. Like that guy at work whose always upset, and wants everyone to be as miserable as him. Morale drops. Not a good thing in a team environment. Not saying I know Kane is a cancer, I don't know that. It's not out of the realm of possibility though. Players don't often call out teammates to the media, dudes are bros. A veteran of 500 games, attitude doesn't for the bill IMO. Eichel has a will to win that only legends have. We have a young team oozing of potential, I don't want the guys coming into the locker room looking up to Kane.

Not a knock on him as a person, he's living the dream and props to the guy. Do whatever you want it's nobody's business. Cups are hoisted by teams, and players who want it more then anything else! Is the risk worth the 30 goals in 70 games a season?

I mean can we all agree we would rather Hall on our roster? There were whispers of him being a bad teammate too but not relevant to where I'm going with this. Kane+ for Muzzin, sign a free agent forward for short term, couple of get defenseman and we could be a bubble team or better next season
