  1. As I was reading up on draft prospect Urho Vaakanainen, they noted that Rasmus Ristolainen had the most ppg as a 16/17yr old in the LIIGA since 2001 before Urho. That got me thinking...

We all know his offensive upside. He QB's the PP like a BA (bad ass). We also are aware that his advanced stats are questionable. His even strength (ES) corsi% sits at 44.1% which isn't great at all. Occasionally he does dumb things in the defensive zone. Occasionally he does brilliant things in the defensive zone. He is turning 23 and entering season #5. Granted his 1st two seasons were on complete garbage teams but he still is rapidly reaching his potential.

So the question is where does that see him this season? Does a new coach and new defense corp help to keep Risto from being a corpse by January as he suffers through punishing TOI numbers? Will his defensive game improve more than I think it did this past season? Will he stop being forced to carry around the dead husk of Josh Gorges who should be on the 3rd pairing? Does he go to the All Star game?

    What say you Sabrespace?

Optimistically anticipating a deeper blue line so that should mean his minutes coming back to earth. Ideally I'd like to see him in the lower 20's.

Look for him to break 50pts and 10+ goals this season, hopefully increase possession and even strength scoring. Risto is best in meaningful games so let's hope we play some of those. He Has the potential to be 4th-10th in point as early as this season.

Defensively I think it's going to be another 2-3 seasons before he's at his best. However I expect too continue to see steady improvement each year.

  2. Why would you waste a 2nd rd pick and $2 mill on a player who can't get our of the minors?

I have no problem with trying to grab Griffin for organizational depth, but your suggestion is way to costly. I trade a 4th rd pick for him and then give him a one year 2 way deal for 700K with a $125k NHL salary.

Yeah you're probably right, I wonder what it would take. High risk but I believe there could be upside there. He's only 23 years old, that's too young to be a total bust.

  3. That went out the window when his transgressions became public. He hasn't been the same golfer - or the same person - since then.

I think Tiger became more enamored with the fame and fortune and stopped loving the game. Perhaps he started to lose his desire after his father died (no more pressure to win?), but he clearly didn't handle his life properly once he had everything he could possibly have.

I think it's rather unfair to completely ignore his back issues and surgeries. Definetly a big deal having a bad back in golf, or virtually all aspects of life. Also, appears as though alcohol was a non factor. He said in a statement that he mixed medications and didn't think it would affect him in such a way, while still acknowledging it was his own fault.

I mean, whatever stock he might have had left is defintely plummeting, but we shouldn't automatically assume the worst.

  4. Sorry if this has been mentioned already. Buy low on Griffin Renihart, maybe a 2nd and a 4th? Not sure if that's gets it done they paid a steep price but he hasn't developed well.

Bringing in the bro could create a bit of competition between the two and hopefully get more out of them. Was highly touted in his draft year, has potential and is still a young player. If we could get him for picks outside of the 1st round I say we jump on it.

I would also seriously consider signing him to an offer sheet. Roughly 1.9M-3.8M would be a 2nd round pick, and I can't see the oilers matching it.

  5. A 2nd pairing defenseman of similar age or possibly a 1st in this year's draft if we give a 3rd in return.

As much as I think Kane is a locker room cancer, if we can extend him to a 3x5.5M-6.5M or so, we should do it. This roster desperately needs goal scorers especially at even strength. My guess is that we will ask north of 6.5 though because he thinks he's going to score 50 every year.

  6. I do love me a good rant - especially a pithy one. This is aces.

    Great sentiment.

I think many here are suggesting it.

Oh, for sure. The jabs are being taken. And some of them are pretty good ones.

The clickbait headline, or whatever, "Ville makes hoodie that says his time in Buffalo was like jail" is misleading. When you read his little blurb on why he created that (awful) art, you get a much different vibe off it.

I don't bear any ill will for Ville. We went around and around on this in another thread, after his feature on Beyond Blue and Gold. There was that part of the interview where he seemed to suggest that his mom would basically tear him away from his piano practice to go play hockey. You got the feeling that, while he was really effing good at hockey, he never really loved playing, and he came to feel pretty indifferently toward having a career in it (feelings that would become positive when things were going well (Philly) and negative when they were not (Buffalo)).

I wouldn't say clickbait? I mean sure it's generated some discussing but the idea was to raise mental health awareness haha jk. While i do think mental health is an issue, like many here have said, put your nose to the grindstone and earn as much of that money as you can! Hurting? Pop a few percs and go sore some goals. Percs can solve anything haha

  7. Life is ###### hard. I make good money which equates to a decent life. I'm one lucky chump. I grew up in border town Quebec/Akwesasne/Adirondacks. I've seen the very poor of the poor. My Dad was tops on the list for the DEC to contact for unwanted roadkill. Anyone that fails to delight in their great fortune to be wealthy can go lick a stick. They can also go ###### themselves.

Yeah I mean nothing mean more then health! But I most definetly agree

  8. Yeah my sympathy goes to the people who do real work for a living, hate their jobs but do it because they have a family to support. The people making 35-50K a year to get up and do something they hate!

Plus if the turned around and made sweaters looking for sympathy, nobody would buy them! Truth is I had sympathy for the guy at one time, mostly when he was being bashed. Now I feel like he can lick a stick.

  10. I hear ya there. Honestly hockey alone consumes like 95 percent of my sports attention. I like Notre Dame in CF and NYG in NFL but it's very casual compared to my Sabres.

Yeah exactly. Normally in the off-season I focus on baseball, unfortunately being a buffalo fan lately the off-season is more interesting than the regular season

  11. I will trade you Lehner for Josh Morrissey and a pick.

Keep the pick, I'll take Morrissey Comrie. However if I know Chevaldayoff, he will take another year of tending and take the lottery pick. Guy doesn't make a trade unless it's a steal of a deal. It'll be Helly n Hutch with a sub .900 for another year,or I'll eat my shorts!

Biding his time until Comrie is ready, even though they're only a starting goalie, and some forward depth away from being in the playoffs

    -----------------------

Murray made alot of poor trades but this wasn't one of them. 6×4M or it goes the arbitration.

  12. Why the delay? Hmmm. I wonder what they could possibly be waiting for.

    So here's a scenario.

    1. Murray consolidated power in the LaFontaine move.

    2. In the summer of 2015, Ted Black was turd-burgered and enter Russ Brandon.

    3. Brandon, Terry and Kim's man, gained influence and somehow got in Murray's bidness and tension started growing there.

    4. With this season in the shitter, it started coming to a head, with Brandon in ownership's ear about problems with Murray, DD and the team. Perhaps a well-placed anecdote about Murray greased the skids.

    5. The topper was Brandon getting with Hammy to post the Eichel piece, putting the final stamp on Murray's passport.

Which had to happen because — and here's some red meat for Taro — Brandon knew the fan base would not swallow another hefty ticket price increase if status quo were maintained.

And so we wait. At the height of our Botterill/(insert name of fresh meat coach) Fever, the press release will be unleashed.

Thanks. I'll be here all century (well, the first half of it, anyway).

Interesting, I found Murray's firing off, caught me off guard. Not that I had an issue with it, his asset management was quite poor.

Here's a question for you, why doesn't Pegula, with his endless bag of money have Murray as a scout, Regier to trade, so get us Hamonic and a conditional 1st for bogo.

Know what I'm saying? Look at Toronto,a ton of hockey minds, all get a say and one guy who supervises and approves (obviously not Kim Pegula). I mean let's benefit where there's no salary cap... We have the money right?
