  1. Didn't get to watch the entire game, caught some bits here and there and highlights. A few things that my eye.

    Positives

-Work ethic, not just the couple guys that had an * attached, entire team competed hard.

    - structure/system. Cycled the puck well, opened up seems for defensemen shooting (dmen had 9 shots). Alot more clean, organised and efficient then preseason games of past.

-Goaltending. Tandem was solid. IMO Ullmark was pretty nervous and it showed. Ultimately both played as well as we can ask.

Special teams. Powerplay seemed mediocre, produced some chances. Pk was good, goaltending played a part in that as well.

    Negatives

Outshot. Seems to have become a Sabres tradition. If we hope to be competitive, big deficits on the shot clock won't help that.

Physicality. I'm not saying we need John Scott back, but finish your hits. As fast as were becoming there's teams bounds ahead. Playing the body will slow them down! (It's not like we didn't hit, we did okay but an uptick in physicality would be beneficial!)

Penalties. Too many at inopportune times

Nothing to put too much stock into. There's was only a handful of NHL players on each team. Also very pleased with Thompson and Nylander. Both have a serious chance at playing in the NHL all season, but both will have to earn it day in day out.

  2. Anybody trying to formulate an opinion on the whole Serena thing would do well to check out the match on YouTube. Media outlets were very misleading I thought. Really don't want to even talk about it haha.

Came here to as if anyone follows lacrosse at all? And/or more specifically the Rochester knighthawks?

9 game tryouts aren’t relevant to Olofsson, Pilut or Asplund. Those are for players who aren’t AHL eligible and get 9 games in the NHL to see if they’re ready or if they go back to juniors.

Berglund also has nothing to do with this discussion. That was a different management group with likely different philosophies. You’re focusing way too much on the “generational prospect” comment. It simply meant that Dahlin is starting in the NHL no matter how good or bad he looks in camp. That’s simply not the case with Asplund. He gets that advantage because of the prospect he is, Asplund does not. So the comparison of the two of them means nothing.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter what you or I think about the transition to NA that you’re so obsessed over. The assistant GM of the team has mentioned it. It’s not made up. And it’s a fact that they think it’s part of the development plan for Olofsson, Asplund and Pilut. It’s not for Dahlin as he’s never been mentioned in those comments. If you want to overthink things, be my guest. I’ll stick with the facts of what management has said.

Your first paragraph is incorrect. Although the 9 game tryout actually isn't relevant to any of the players named, that's not exactly what's its used for. Any 18-19 year old player on an ELC is a slide risk. That means if they play less then 10 games the contract doesn't kick in until the following season. (If 18 could slide again) whether they play in the CHL or AHL is irrelevant.

They actually need him, but he won't be fully 100 % after 5 months , so what is the point in having him suck and maybe put himself in danger of more injuries.

He got a hip scope. The team said he will resume normal activity in 12 weeks. If he's not 100% in 5 months than something isn't right.

Edit: surgery was 2017, so nevermind haha. Sounds like they are waiting to see if it hits 100%. I think it's fairly likely that if he doesn't play this season his career might be in jeopardy

Yeah but all the articles I read stated it was better to take a full year off to recover proper.

I can see them wanting to be cautious because he went through the same thing basically last season. Sounds like it's anyone's guess they might get desperate and have to chance it.

A guy walks into a bar, looking sad and sulking. After a few rounds bartender asks him what's wrong. He replies  "I went skydiving Yesterday, my spot in line came up and I couldn't do it, I went to the back of the line. Finally everyone had jumped bit my and my instructor and I couldn't find the courage, so my instructor whips out his big black dick and says jump or I above it in your ass" after watching the man down his shot, bartender says "well did you jump?" The man replies " a little at first".

Two men are sitting down for lunch and one says to the other "I've been screwing up my words so much lately, a week ago I was getting train tickets to Pittsburgh, the lady serving me had HUGE knockers and I accidentally asked for 2 pickets to Titsburgh."  The other man says "that's not so bad, yesterday I was having supper with my wife and kids. I meant to ask my wife to pass me the salt but I actually said you ruined my life you f@king beetch.

Adam is sitting in the garden and he's lonely. God sees this and descends for a conversation. "Adam I see that you are lonely, you've been obedient and loyal so I have decided to give you a partner, someone who will cook and clean for you, hear all of your concerns and make sure each one of your needs are met!" "That sound fantastic" replies Adam "but what is it going to cost me?"                 God answers "An arm and a leg"                Adam asks "what can I get for a rib?"

  7. Cgy acquired Hamilton for 1st 2ndx2

    Flames acquire hamonic & 4th for 1st 2ndx2

Heard alot of people saying they would be okay with one of these players ^ in a one for one trade... We acquired a 1st and a 2nd plus plus plus. Not saying we will flip them but this is the value these picks carry. If you were expecting a Mitts level prospect plus plus plus probably why it seems so much worse

  8. O'Reilly couldn't come back after he was so openly and obviously shopped. Must have been a locker room problem as speculated. On the ice he brought alot to the team, and it's unfortunate to see him go for a package that will not come close to replacing him(at least not immediately).

By the same token, we are unarguably in need of a culture change, that term has almost become a cliche, but it is so very true. That won't happen overnight, we've seen the expedited process and it left us with bare cupboards and a sub par on ice product. O'Reilly was clearly not part of Jbots core, but I encourage all to take a look at our young core (Eichel, Reinhart, Mitts, Dahlin, Risto). It's oozing with potential!!!

I ask you this, before the trade were we making the playoffs? Hell no, are we making them now? Hell no!! But we added capable players in the positions we really needed, and we won't finish last. The guys will compete because if they don't we have a plane ticket for them! It sets an example for what's acceptable behavior and what isn't. My point is, this thing is trending upwards and management will have faith in the player's it's putting out there. Do you want to win a cup in 4 years? Or be a bubble team for our entire existence? We blew it up years ago for a reason, we've been as patient as anyone, let's ride this thing out because done right, we will achieve!!!

Yup are they overpayed and old! But we are actually seeing every position being filled by players who can do the job!! And are loading up on the much needed depth to be a contender!

  9. I think there's a difference in temperament between Eich and Dahlin that will preclude that. I think Eich likes to be star, the center of attention, the hero. So when the others fade out of sight it just gives him the opportunity to show what he can do himself. (I mean, he has no problem with teamwork but doesn't mind the individual spotlight.)

Dahlin, on the other hand, works hard because he wants to win. If others around him are not doing what is necessary to win, I kind of think Dahlin will have no problem calling them out (possibly not verbally, but by his example, maybe by just casting a frown on the object of his disdain).

It seems like Jack puts in the work, but doesn't go above and beyond to put in extra work because he doesn't feel he needs to. From all accounts, Dahlin is the opposite: Nothing is ever good enough, there's always room for improvement. I could envision Dahlin doing windsprints at the end of practice to make sure he has the endurance to work hard at the end of a game. If others marvel at his durability, he'd probably tell them they can do that too, just join him for windsprints after practice (note: Made up scenario, but just to express the point). I don't think you'll see Jack doing that, but I think Dahlin might.

Couldn't agree more. To me it's Dahlins best attribute. Crosby might not be the most skilled guy in the league, but he is the hardest worker.

  10. For some states, yes.

NYS taxes anything earned in NYS regardless of where the earner lives. There are others that do that as well.

Makes sense, I would be interested to see exactly the difference in net pay because I bet that there are states do have a significant advantage, that being said it's really not relevant to the CBA I wouldn't think

  11. I agree that Trump is a bigger ahole than Trudeau.

See, any political statements on this board will elicit a reaction. I’d prefer the hockey board to remain nonpolitical going forward.

I would agree that the hockey aspects should be free of political influence! The 2 don't jive. But isn't a reaction what you are looking for when you post anything? Whether or not sabrespace allows it is irrelevant to me, plenty of other spaces so discuss such things. I don't post here often but always read it, I don't see the harm in allowing discussion outside of hockey, in threads that are off topic. I've come to respect alot of the opinions of people here, and would enjoy being able to read their insights on political issues.

I mean where are we headed as a society when we can't discuss core issues because of peoples reactions? Who decides that what one person says is acceptable and not the others. Keep it respectful and we should be able to discuss "sensitive" issues, it's a slippery slope if we can't..
