Bogo is getting nowhere near his current 7-year, $36 million contract next summer.

He’ll likely get more, but he’s going to mirror Luke Schenn, who signed a 5-year $18-million second contract based on promise and followed with a two-year $2.5 million deal when he didn’t fulfill that promise.

I’ll be shocked if Bogo signs a $10 million deal, or for four years.

I would be astounded if he was signed to a 2 year 2.5M deal.

Well I never liked the hire and was doubtful from day 1. The whole thing with LaFontaine and everything just felt weird and wrong and we end up with this inexperienced product of nepotism. Recipe for disaster.  Proven mistake as he threw about draft picks like they were used scratch lottery tickets. Worst GM ever.

JBot, on the other hand has worked hard and earned his place under a solid GM on a successful team so I give his hire the benefit of a doubt. He earns his place by making the team progressively better. If the team is better this year than last year he is doing ok. Simple as that, and it is.

Going back and critiquing things like Lehner is just looking for a way to critique unfairly. Nobody, absolutely nobody thought Lehner should be given a new contract by us and everybody was happy the trainwreck left town. islanders gambled and won for the moment but we will see how long that lasts. I remember way back a Latvian goalie Arturs Irbe was a big deal and then he became a hopeless alcoholic and then had a bounce back year and then busted again. lehner could get a long term deal now and then slide right back into oblivion or he could be best in the league for years. No way to know and good luck to him. None of that is on JBot.

Will every single JBot deal be great, unlikely, like all GMs he will hit and miss, but if we keep getting better, JBot gets a thumbs up.That is all.

For the record, I agree. I think JBot has done a pretty good job. Some mistakes along the way, but nothing too bad. The good outweighs the few minor mistakes

Jame hates JBot it's as simple as that.

How many people called for him Murray's head? How many were surprised when he was fired? The answer is not enough. I'm hindsight it's easy to see how bad he boned us.

I'd say Jame has been a buffalo fan long enough to be tired of all the B.S. because being a fan in the last decade has come with it's fair share. It's made him the ultimate skeptic, which I can appreciate. We need more fans like that to make sure the GMTMs heads roll in a timely fashion.

I think the standard is a little bit unachievable though. Haha

    Edit: Pure speculation

Fedun is playing regular minutes for a playoff team...

it's a situation where Botts does a poor job of managing the edges of a roster... it's been the same story two years in a row.

No I get what you're saying. It's just hard to see the merits of your points when I'm one hand you want JBot making moves to help the team win now, but on the other hand chastising him when his failed attempts only cost us a 3rd to a 6th.

You must already miss the days of not having replacement level depth... and instead having Tennyson, Falk, etc

Reality, Botts gave away two replacement level NHL defensemen in Beaulieu and Fedun for 6th and 7th rounders. It's not a great look.

Botts has demonstrated for 2 straight years that he lacks an appreciation for the "roster fringe". Last season, he put together a god awful 1/3 of the roster (I've said before, 1/3 of his roster is not in the NHL today). And throughout the year as replacement level talent passed through waivers he did nothing. Now he's giving that level away for fringe draft picks.

    It's a small thing... but it's real.

Agreed. I fault the initial hiring, not a lack of firing.

Agree on Lehner as well. My position is the change of scenery that a good GM should've identified, should've led to him going on waivers to Rochester. We either lose him on wiavers (doubtful) and we are in the same place today... or the change of scenery works, and we reap the benefits.

    Just more small ball Botts

Beaulieu wanted out. Take the 6th and be done with it. Give his spot to someone whose ready to let his work ethic earn it. Clif Pu and Nick Baptiste were just traded for future considerations, and you're complaining about a 7th for fedun.

Why?  He's overpaid, but not horrendously with only 1 year left (IIRC) on his deal.  And is now the 3rd best RHD on a team with only 4 NHL quality RHD's.

He also has been the guy that both the rookie D-men play their best when paired with him.

He'll be fine as the 3RD.

I feel as though he's a defensive liability. More so then any of our other defensemen. Even with his on ice play aside, I'd rather not have him in the dressing room. I don't have solid proof or an article or anything that's just my take. His heart isn't in the game anymore if you ask me.

I, for one, will not shed a single tear if we are in the "unfortunate" situation of having three top-6 centers.

The 3 top 6 centers are the ones I'd be worried about shedding tears. 1 of them anyway.

I have to think any deal the lighting plan on making would not entail much of the current roster. So picks or prospects. They have enough deadline cap space to add Risto and wouldn't have to worry about cap implications until the off-season. If Risto is traded for anything not in the lineup making a difference next season, it would be a colossal failure. The players hete are tired of losing, they don't want to do it for another year. These guys are people not robots. (Only top part is directed at you Blue)

  8. I think it basically boils down to, would you trade our first for a Stanley Cup? If buffalo was a contender down the road, added a guy at the deadline and won a Cup, we could crap the bed on deadline deals for the next decade and if still say it was worth it.

Injuries play a big part too can never be too prepared.

I big part I don't understand is why teams don't do it sooner in the season? Ya alot of teams want to know where they stand at the deadline I get that. But take a look at clb, are they first in metro if they acquired duchene and dzingel in December?

    4. Was player of the year in the USHL in 2013-2014

    5. Was the highest NHL draft pick in U. Mass.-Amherst  history

    6. Nickname: Monty

    7. In December, became the first NHL defenseman to record four points in the third period of a game in nearly 12 years, and first defenseman to score four points in any period in more than five years

    8. Has several tattoos: on his left shoulder is the date 12-29-16, the day of his NHL debut and his mom’s birthday; on the inside of his left arm are the words, “Anything is possible if you believe"

    9. Scored five game-winning goals last season for the Ducks, tying a franchise record for d-men

    10. Played for AHL San Diego and had this to say about the experience: "Can’t beat that place. You’re in the sun, wearing flip-flops, living in California. Not a day went by we weren’t happy to go the rink."

Guys mom is only 3 years old? That's more interesting then the other 10 facts

I don't but clearly these guys hate each other.

I don't see the relevance here. I wasn't implying they hated each other. I was hoping someone could find a clip of it as I was hoping to hear the exchange.

If you thought that's what I was going for, and you think this picture disproves that narrative, I'd find that funny. O'Reilly Seems to be having a fun conversation, with someone who either doesn't care enough to put his phone down to really listen, or doesn't respect the person enough.

A lot of hockey trades going on right now. Something I think Botterill really needs to get involved with.

I’ve seen some interesting suggestions on Twitter - one of the most interesting being Ristolainen for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. I’m not sure either team does that but it’s an interesting thought.

Please change name of thread to "rumors involving sabres that make you want to vomit"

Are you thinking Casey, Rasmus and Jack?

Rasmus won’t get a new contract until 2021; the largest 2nd contract ever given a defenceman in the current CBA is the $7 million the Panthers gave Ekblad. He could be looking at $10 million, but he will need to be putting up 60-plus points on a very good team.

But Casey’s contract comes up in 2020. He is on pace for 24 points this year, or about half of what Sam Reinhart got in his rookie year. If he doubles that pace in year two he will be entering contract negotiations with, at best, the same bargaining power Reinhart had this summer, which earned him $3.6 million. To sniff $8 million he’d probably have to be putting up around 70 points. Leafs won’t pay Nylander that much for back-to-back 60 point seasons.

I was thinking more Skinner at 7.5-8, Eichel at 10 and Dahlin at the 12 range. In 3 years that's at least what he will cost. His play + the rising cap is why I'm projecting that.

But really it's not a stretch to think someone else other than Skinner may come in and earn a 8M. My point is and you're dealing with having 2 elite+/franchise players and a 3rd elite guy, good luck getting them under 30M.

Hopefully by that time we have a cup making it more worth it.

I love it. The Leafs will be spending more than $30 million on three players.

I love Barkov and he would be in my top 10, but I am surprised he’s in theirs.

Otherwise, some market pandering there for sure.

If everything works out like it's appearing, we will be spending 30M+ on 3 players

  14. Game against Minny you could really see his confidence starting to grow, that's the main goal here. Easier opposition until he really gets comfortable (getting there but his game has another few notches to go yet) then start increasing the workload. Kid is going to be unreal, probably this season it will happen, but if it takes 3 years then that's when he should get the bump up.

  15. Yikes... It's not even a little bit of a problem! Seriously it's been 20 games. Do you know how often even franchise players shoot 5.8% for 20 games? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's happened to Crosby multiple times, probably damn near everyone who has been in the league long enough, has had it happen. This team is third in the Atlantic ahead of Boston (whom many of you thought would finish first in the division) this hardly seems concerning in the slightest

Are you going north of Lake Winnipeg or the east side of it? Don't have to do anything to moose meat for me to like it.

My hunting partner uses all of the goose meat and makes pate out of the liver. She saves the hearts for me. She makes a stock out of the necks and the bigger breasts she corns and makes pastrami and she grinds the rest (including wing, leg and back meat) of it and makes sausages and ground meat.

She gives me some (because I don't go after birds in the field) pate, pastrami and ground meat and it is all great. Goose burgers and meatloaf are excellente! My better half won't eat factory farmed meat but she loves wild meat!

Were going to the east of it, just past wanipagow in GHA 17A. Can't wait starting to cool now. Just hope the water levels are good. (They were lower this year then I ever remember seeing them)

That's interesting, I've been thinking of getting into waterfowl but I've never eaten much if it and wasn't too sure how to cook it. I'll have to give that a shot because their is geese everywhere here.

I've been kicking around Moose hunting next fall...... maybe in Newfoundland......  My Daughter wants to go on a hunt for something I'd never chased before, and I just can't afford an Alaska or Yukon moose hunt, so Newfoundland is an option.

In general, where are you hunting?

Newfoundland would probably be a great experience! I've never been but there's alot of moose around there! I'd definitely recommend a moose hunt, if you catch them in the rut and they are answering and coming in to the call it can be quite exhilarating.

Most of the southern part of MB is closed to hunting because of low populations. I love moose hunting but the best way to hunt them now in MB is to fly in to a remote spot. Thinking of doing it next year. Boats are there and a modest cabin/shack. My favorite meat that doesn't have wings. I've had Barren Ground Caribou and it was excellent. I don't hunt deer or Elk because I dont' like the tase.

Newfieland for moose would be good and I think a moose/caribou hunt is reasonably priced.

Yup unfortunately southern Manitoba is closed because there's very few moose left. I've done a few flyins in northern Manitoba and it's generally around 50%  success rate depending on where you go!

This year we're going up in northern Manitoba again, were canoeing in to a somewhat remote lake. Going to be alot of work but the fishing is always great.

I do very much enjoy wild meat, we make our own pepperettes, Smokey's, Jerky the whole 9. Some animals are very wild tasting, but after alot of fine tuning recipes it can be quite delicious!
