  1. https://theathletic.com/4828154/2023/09/07/nhl-bust-breakout-u23-players/ Article from the Athletic about high-end prospects that still need to blossom. There are no Sabres on the list, but one player on the list is our friend Marco Rossi. Does anyone still want Rossi over Quinn? Would you take Rossi over JJP at this point? I wouldn't.

  3. Everyone agrees he is 1/2 the goalie solution and that he is already better than AHL players Comrie and UPL. What we question is KA's judgment that putting the playoff chances in the hands of a rookie goaltender is a wise move. We also question his judgment that UPL and Comrie are better than what's available. Considering a 40 year goalie (Anderson) was better than both, I think there is ample evidence that adding another goalie to play with and mentor Levi would be a much smarter plan. This doesn't mean that this foolhardy plan won't work, but it's taking a large and unnecessary risk for a team primed to make the playoffs. Given our ample cap space, this strategy seems even more foolhardy.
  4. The Mitts Cozens combo will have both players set new career highs. KA better get Mitts locked up.
  5. Wasn't there a rumor that Ullmark had re-signed?
  6. I have no idea if he is selling the team soon, in 3 years or never. Certainly splitting the Sabres and Bills makes the bookkeeping more straight forward if he wants to bring in a minority shareholder or sell the team outright. It's doubtful he is selling the team anytime soon. Why sell the team after you have absorbed losses and the team is about to turn the corner and become competitive again? Why sell the team after you have agreed to funnel significant improvements into the stadium? I can see selling part of the team to bring in capital to pay for the improvements and/or recoup past losses, but why do that now when the valuation of the franchise should jump after a few playoff seasons and the ticket base returns?
  7. Bueller, Bueller, Bueller, anyone?
  8. Just need another 35 wins
  9. I have a copy of that photo from when I was a kid, but I think it’s Larry Carriere from 1973.

  11. Not enough options. I think he spends the season in Buffalo, but he doesn't play 40 games.
  12. Like VO
  13. For me
  14. my bad, but you got to admit Howdy Doody is good for Mitts. For Weave
  15. There are Mitts haters on this board who made Mitts a scapegoat and have never relented despite the change on the ice. He took the same development path as TNT. Both players made the NHL quickly after college. Both struggled with the NHL game, got sent to the AHL, didn't prosper in the NHL until they physically matured, and both broke out at the NHL level at the same age, except Mitts showed signs of good play at different points. Both also suffered under RK. Mitts Age 20 - .33 pts/gp Age 21 - .29 pts/gp Age 22 - .54 pts/gp Age 23 - .48 pts/gp Age 24 - .72 pts/gp TNT Age 20 - .22 pts/gp Age 21 - .22 pts/gp Age 22 - AHL/Injury Age 23 - .37 pts/gp Age 24 - .87 pts/gp Age 25 - 1.21 pts/gp
  16. 20g 45a 65 pts player center and wing on all 3 top lines, but mostly as Cozens wingman helping Dylan to 35 goals.
  17. For Skinner For Greenway
  18. For JJP
  19. For Mitts.
  20. I don’t think so. Ellis 49 pts in 356 nhl games. JJP 32 in 79 games so far.
  21. He should never play a game for the Sabres again.
  22. https://thehockeynews.com/news/top-50-drafted-nhl-prospects-based-on-doerries-model 7. Zach Benson, Buffalo, Top Line 31. Jiri Kulich, Buffalo, Top-Six Forward 43. Matt Savoie, Buffalo, Impact Forward 47. Noah Östlund, Buffalo, Impact Forward My biggest criticism of this model's results is Marco Rossi is 17th. I also don't see what Marco Kasper has done to be 29th to Kulich's 31.
  23. I think this is taking charcoal grilled hotdogs too far.
  24. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/ranking-nhl-best-and-worst-prospect-pools-sabres-red-wings-canadiens-blackhawks-devils-120025136.html This was published in July, but I don't think anyone linked it here. Ian Kennedy, the author, IMHO does a very good job evaluating prospects and draft-eligible players. He writes for the Hockey News and Yahoo News as well as the Globe & Mail in Canada.1
