  1. What's with all the doomsday talk in here?

Also, with the Allen-Eichel comparisons, the QB position is the one position in the 4 major sports that can far and away affect the teams' outcomes more than any other. Couple that with having possiblity the league's best target to throw to.

If Eichel as a playmaker had the same effect over the game as a QB, and the team brought in Alexander Ovechkin (hockey's Stefon Diggs equivalent) to finish his plays for him, we'd be talking about the 2nd coming of Mark Messier.

  2. I've had an account here for a while, but I've only been posting semi-regularly for the last couple of months.

I'm on some skiing forums where the members plan meetups several times a year at different mountains around North America. I've never joined in, but would do so if i had more vacation time off work.

After a few beers tonight, i was thinking if/when the Sabres ever made the playoffs again, I'd probably want to head across the border and celebrate with fellow fans. Have any of the old-timer board members here ever gotten together for that sort of thing?

There are some seriously small Peewees.  In general, don't like any kids playing organized games getting away with roller bags (the equipment mites wear is so small & light, even they should be able to carry their own), but wouldn't really give the kids flack for it until they were bantams.

My daughter is the smallest of the small and was out of her wheelie bag by Peewee... Even with all the extra crap she keeps in there (old jerseys, extra clean/dirty undergear, backup equipment in case a friend forgets hers...).

  4. I'm sure he'll be fine in another year or two, but in my dissenting opinion, he hasn't looked so good at the NHL level.

Small sample size, and its tougher to assess D unless you're specifically following them (which I haven't) but I've noticed him standing still more than I'd like, and he seems slow to make the outlet pass.

I think he might be better off finishing the season in ROC even if he's still better than Irwin.

I'm one of the few that sees a return to form for Skinner if he's paired back with Jack, that configuration has only proven to work, it's never been proven that it doesn't work.

I feel like the big difference between Skinner now and when he was scoring is his shot. He's got a little pea shooter going right now. I find he still gets the puck to the dangerous areas, but can't finish because his shot sucks.

  6. Most of our players are on the upslope of their learning curves. Assuming we resign our FA's, here's where our core guys for next year are...

Cozens, Samuelson, and Dahlin are very low on their respective learning curves for their ages at their positions. They have a LOT of room to get better.

Mittelstadt, Thompson, Aspland, Ruots, Bjork, Borgen, Bryson, and Joki are all on thr upward slope.

Reinhart, Eichel, Risto, McCabe, and Skinner, Girgs are all at their peak ages.

The only player at thr drop off is Okposo.

With goaltending we could be good.

Most preseason projections had them finishing 5th or 6th.

No RK or Covid Shutout probably makes them a little better, but Washington, NYI, Pittsburgh and Boston are still the class of the division.  I think the Sabres and Rangers would be battling for 5th, but without Eichel the edge goes to the Rags.

My question was what place they'd be in the North (w Granato / wo Krueger... pick your flavour) not the East (aka Division of Death).

I ask this as a Canadian that has to listen to how awesome the Leafs are this year 24/7.

5th or 6th , based on current point totals

You don't think higher based on quality of completion and no RK?

Keep in mind that going by last year's records, the Oilers would be the top team in the North with a .585 pt%. Comparing them against the East teams records from last year, they would be 6th, behind NYI that was .588.

This article stinks. Someone needs to throw that expected goals for stat straight down the toilet. 💩

Somehow, the Sabres' weak outside shots under Krueger taken by Hall, Skinner, et al seem to fool the algorithm that we should have been scoring more. No way. We weren't scoring because the shots all sucked.

Before, our slow attack and/or dump and chance allowed the entire opposing team to get back to their zone to defend... Which caused a crap load of weak scoring chances.

Now we're actually getting the puck and players to the slot and the high danger areas, and often doing so with numbers. But somehow our XGF didn't change much at all?!?!
