A "Lindy draft" makes no sense, even for this team. But hypothetically, if any coach -- but particularly a lame duck coach one season away from retirement -- was given control of the draft -- then every pick and prospect would've been moved to get the best team available on the ice for that year. Lindy's going out with a veteran roster and a true #1 goalie.

I feel like Lindy isn't a year away from retirement. I think if the team keeps improving and/or gets competitive, he'll be here long term. Speaking of which, when's that goalie signing going to happen?!!!

  2. To anyone upset about this trade... Check all the advanced and not-so advanced stats. Timmins is a good 3rd pair D. Clifton wasn't.

All the Leafs fans I know liked him. Sounds like Pens fans liked him too. I don't think anyone anywhere has liked Clifton.

Lots of reasons to be upset with the team so I get the frustration, but this is a small win for us.

Someone else said it finally lol

I can’t decide whether it’s more embarrassing or just hilarious. Like ordinarily I’d say embarrassing but like…there turn on him in real time is so shockingly brazen and barren and obviously it’s so damn. I couldn’t even make my meme work when I said “within 24 hours we’ll love the deal”

Nope - Peterka is a bad apple within LESS than 24 hours. No attempt to hide it.

I hope you're not including me as one of the guys turning on Peterka. I dont think anyone really has other than Rivet.  I'm just saying our core isn't a party crowd, and they won't miss him as much as I would have expected after hearing this news.

Obviously, Peterka is not much different than a lot of other 23 year olds around (myself included 🤠). I honestly thought Peterka going on the cheap could have been the straw that broke Tage and Dahlin's backs. After listening to Rivet, this doesn't necessarily have to be true if they were very far apart lifestyle wise.

This has merit for UFA’s (for instance, no way in the world Marner or Ehlers signs here) but generally does not with trades, unless the player has a NMC, which most do not.

I know its completely and utterly irrational, but I have this nagging hope that Marner will take his love of the Bills and Josh Allen to the next level and sign with the Sabres.

    I'll see myself out.

  5. Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere but Craig Rivet was on After the Whistle saying "JJ Peterka was more concerned about serving drinks being a bar at 4 o'clock in the morning". Said off the ice he was making poor decisions.

Probably doesn't bode well on this team with most of the core either being familymen (Tage, Tuch, Power) or just hyper focused on hockey (Dahlin).

  6. Don't like the trade but it's a done deal. We all know where Kesselring is going to play, but what about Doan?

He has a Mule-esque sample size in the league of just 62GP and 28pts (which isn't bad for PPG).

With it being subject to change post Byram deal and free agency, where does he fit into the lineup?

I think where I come down is that Peterka is likely to regress.

You're usually pretty well researched, so I genuinely want to know why think this.

I see a guy who's got top end ability off the rush and has creativity to match. Even going back to the WJC's when he was playing with Stutzle I thought he was nearly as talented, just less hyped. I also feel like he's young enough to improve his defensive game, just as guys like Eichel and Matthews did as they matured.

    Hagens, because of his size?

For all his expectations, Hagens underproduced. He had two high end linemates, both of whom out produced him. Still, he'd collect his share of points by virtue of playing with them. The end story though is that Hagens was likely the passenger... Not the driver.

I haven't watched him though, so the boots on the ground report may say otherwise. Hard to argue with the scoresheet though.
