    The original:

Just think of all the games in hand we’ll have to not make up any ground with.

    Yours?

(It's not like there's any Sabres hockey to talk about. Thanks, NHL. Thanks, Terry.)

Just think of all the games in hand we’ll piss away.

    Mine:

Games in hand? Don’t talk about - Games in hand!?!? You kidding me? Games in hand? I just hope we can win a game!

  2. The league I used to play in was pretty low level. Most of us were 40-55 and not very good. However we had three girls on our team all around 25yo that played competitively relatively recently and matched up really well. They were better skaters than us, worse shooters.

One guy on the team could barely skate but he had a monster shot. The game plan was "Girls- get him the puck!!!!". It worked really well!!! He was always our leading scorer.

The bonus was going to the bar after the game. Old guys hanging out with pretty 20-something year olds. Seems like an odd combo, but we kept the team together for three years until COVID took the league down.

Long story short- Old guys and younger women make for a fun, well-matched league.

Yeah I have.  Its hockey, even a bad game I like to have it on the TV while I do other things around the house.  If its a good game they are winning, I'm glued to the TV.  So yeah.

This is the beauty of baseball, because it's on every night. Rarely do I get glued to it for more than a handful of innings, but it's reliable background entertainment.

Preach my brother.  My favorite is when Rochesterstarians use the “the” prefix for the routes, yes I’m looking at you Patrick Duffy.  Like they are glomming onto Buffalo somehow.

In Canada we use the "the". In fact, I'm just about to hop on the QEW and will need to get off on the 403.

You asked a question.  The answer to the question was 'No.'

Wtf do you need the answer spelled out in a post, when the reaction allows it to be answered with 2 clicks?

Well, to answer your question, NO we do not know how serious the injury is.  Truly doubt the Sabres even know yet as you usually don't do MRIs / ultrasounds until a couple of days later after swelling has gone down.

    Happy?

The description on the X says "Disagree", not "No".

What you're saying makes more sense... though a written No response could have been done in just 4 clicks.

He has nine goals in his past 42 games. Is his presence or absence really going to be a determining factor either way?

Why do we do this to our kids?

He's got 12 points on 17 games this year and has looked really good. Having him in the lineup gives us 3 legit scoring lines. Not that he's the lone driver on this... He just kind of completes the offense.

Probably because teams went from having 3-4 games in hand to having no games in hand. So technically they didn't really lose ground, the other teams just made up the games they had in hand and they mostly stayed even with them.

    Could have been far worse

I haven't double checked this, but my sense is this is probably the correct answer.

The NHL is a league where players play through injuries. If Thompson is hurt he isn't the first, and he's surely not the last. That said, I don't recall seeing players drop off this drastically as shown below.

It was such a treat to watch him last year. So many highlight reel plays.

One week later he's down to a 52pt pace.

  9. We seem to have steady goaltending now which wasn't the case before.

If Quinn's "longer term" injury is on the Skinner "week to week" side of long, the all-star break couldn't have come at a better time. If he comes back, I'll say this end of season playoff push will be worth watching. Otherwise, let's get into the all too familiar next year mode.

I'm going to take a different perspective on the play of Bryson. Everything you said about him in this game is accurate. His minutes were a little more than modest. He is essentially a substitute player from the AHL who was temporarily brought up to replace an injured defenseman, Eric Johnson. He was far from being an impactful player in this game but he wasn't a liability. He's essentially an AHL player who fills in when needed and then goes back to being a decent AHL player. That's a sign that the regular roster is being filled with NHL caliber players.

Who's playing better in Rochester... Bryson or Clague?

He’s been injured all season.  Granato and Hamilton have insinuated as much.

That's been the story, but he's been mediocre since day 1, even before he had missed any games.

If this is something that's been nagging him since last season, I'd rather see him pack it in, get the necessary surgery or treatment now and see 2022-23 Thompson back for 2024-25.

There were times during the Kings game when I swear Tage was going twice as fast as anyone else on the ice ... just like last year. Maybe his dad pulled him aside after the Ducks game and said "thanks for playing like crap, but seriously you are so much better than this, just go do hockey"

Remember last year when he used to do that all the time? After McDavid, he was probably the most exciting player in the league.

I thought Cozens was trending in the same direction.

It's a shame they both regressed so hard.

I disagree. I think it's human nature to try to find an advantage. There's a wide variety of PEDs that provide more than muscle mass, but I think in our society when we hear PED our minds automatically think of weight training and "bulking up". I think the income potential combined with the small window to earn that income enhances the possibility, especially prior to the first big payday.

As I understand it, Adderall and a lot of the ADD medications could be use to seriously improve focus and reaction times. As such, they are quite rampant in the e-sports community.

So broaden your thinking going forward and choose words carefully  in social media forum. Do you want to be the source of this?    Just because that outcome happened in one case, does not mean it is true in all.   Especially when you are hinting at cheating or other unacceptable behaviors.

People have been speculating about PED use in sports forever... seriously, this is not new. I don't have to be right about it either.

As a paying fan of the team who's watched the #1 center look like a mere shadow of himself with a nearly unprecedented drop off in production... going from a SportsCenter highlight almost every night to maybe one this year- I'm going to muse about this as a possibility. I'll also check in here to see if anyone else thinks this could be a possibility. It's harsh reality in sports these days that some fans seem unwilling to accept.  I guarantee you this type of conversation is going on all the time in other sports message boards. Not sure why we have to be so sensitive here.
