The thing I don't like about those stats are, there is no upward progression in them.  The scoring we got from Sam in year 1 is little different from the scoring we got from Sam in year 3.  And the trend seems to be holding in year 4.  Where is the growth?

It appears that this might be Sam.   There is no more to get from him.

I wonder if a possible trade offer comes Botts may do a deal??

I want Erod back in the line up most definitely

    Skinner - Eichel - Pommers

Erod - Mitts - Okposo  (Worked well on the West coast trip so I'm confused why we separated them)

Sheary - Sobotka - Reinhart (Again played alright on the western trip)  (I have never seen Mitts and Reinhart work all that well together)

    Girgs - Berglund - Larsson

    McCabe - Risto

    Scandella - Bogo

    Dahlin - Nelson

I'd love to see Pilut soon to edge out Nelson

Exactly. Why change it when it works.

And the other thing that bugs me about ERod is that, when you compare a player to their expectations, who on this team has done more to exceed them than Evan? The guy was never supposed to stick for more than a game or two in terrible injury situations and is our most efficient ES scorer in sh*t roles with dreg linemates.

And the organization rewards busting his a$$ to exceed all expectations, skating harder every shift on average than his teammates combined, with sitting for about 5 guys doing objectively worse for no discernible reason (besides needing to screw with Tage's head for some reason)

Don't understand housley on this one and he baffles me with other decisions too.  The minute erod was ready to go he should have been straight back in.

4-5 years should be his leash length, unless he totally screws up some trades. I think the Pegulas like him and have bought into his patient approach.

That's what gets me thinking nothing will happen with him anytime soon and why this season will mirror last. As much as it will be hard to take if it means the Rochester guys taking us further forward next year then I am willing to wait. We didn't have the luxury last year of a asplund, pilut, borgen and oloffson waiting in the wings although we did have Smith, nylander and guhle. All of them will better prepared for the NHL when there time comes. Hopefully some of them are here this season.

  5. Is it going to be pretty much the same as last year if not slightly worse with the additions of sheary and Skinner and the O'Reilly trade but the loss of kane and O'Reilly having a worse impact. Will we not see it get better until 19-20 when Smith, asplund , oloffson, nylander, pilut, guhle and borgen are hopefully full time sabres?  I want us winning now as much as the rest but is this how things will be for the rest of this season??

Put it this way, the only thing that is different is goaltending. It's the only reason they have any points at all.

3 weeks from now, they will be 10 points out of 8th and the season will be over.

wonder if we see any call ups within the next 3 weeks if this continues.

Oh, definitely not. I'm not going to take away from what he accomplished. He is near the top all-time in win percentage. But he did take over a team that was young and chock full of talent just waiting to explode. Maybe he had something to do with that, maybe not. But the fact remains, he is a teacher and not a head coach. The Sabres have been failures for several years and in that time, they have had soft, lifeless coaches. Rolston, Bylsma, Housley............ Look at the best teams in the league. They have head coaches who are hard-***** and not teachers. The Sabres haven't had a player's coach since Nolan.

Fair enough assessment. Housley in the mould. Chris Taylor would let them play.

It was obvious the first game, Phil has not been able to get this team to believe his system, if he
cant turn this around in the next 5 games he needs to be fired right away

Would be interesting modo what someone like Chris Taylor could do with the sabres roster. Not sure if getting rid of housley makes things better but first thing he needs to do is let the players play. They seem caught up in his coaching style which is clearly not working.

Reino:  0 goals in 6 games (and a minus-5 for Pi)

    KO:  also 0 goals

Mitts and TT:  also 0 goals

    Time to change the lines.

    Sheary-Eichel-TT

    Skinner-Mitts-Reino

    Sobotka-ERod-KO

    Zemgus-Berglund-Pommer

    worth a try

At this point, it has to be Olofsson and CJ as the first call ups, they play a 200 foot game, Nylander isn't far off and when he puts his mind to it he is a force.  Not sure who on D.  Borgen needs time, but is nasty... Ghule has to many brain farts and needs to work on passing, Pilut is a great skater, but needs to add some weight, gets blown up to often in his own end.  The rest of them meh.

Cornell hustles all game and could be a decent 3rd 4th line guy.  Kills penalties and throws his body around.

Can't disagree with any of that. Good points

Five (bad) things that could easily happen this year that few on here expect will.

    1) Connor Sheary minus the Penguins looks kinda like Scott Wilson and barely scores 10 goals.

    2) This year’s Ullmark/Hutton tandem looks remarkably like last year’s Lehner/Johnson tandem.

    3) Hunwick, Beaulieu and Nelson are regulars in our starting six

    4) Casey Mittelstadt struggles against NHLers, averages a dozen minutes a game and gets about 25 points.

    5) Jack Eichel puts up another 60-plus point season.

    And five good ones

    1) Bailey and Baptiste are regularly in the lineup all year long, supplying good speed on the forechecking and combining for 25 goals and 50 points.

    2) A remarkably steady Hutton gives the Sabres a chance to win every game.

    3) Zach Bogosian and Kyle Okposo produce like their 2016 versions.

    4) Vladimir Sobotka gives the Sabres a genuine 3rd line centre

    5) Sam Reinhart plays all 82 games the way he played the last 40 last year.

And a bonus: Alex Nylander lights it up in Rochester and get called up after Christmas.

    Would take that

Just wondering if Botts is planning on doing what he done with Pittsburgh regarding pilut and nylander. Will we see them in buffalo in a month or so??  Sure he done similar with sheary and guentzel??
