  1. So glad this is now done. That whole MN thing was scaring me. Vanek lost all interest in this team and the youth has been carrying any good play so far this season. Get Miller on the next train outta here and call it a day. I can finally breathe now that the TRUE rebuild is now underway. Get a power forward for Miller, draft top center and off we go.

    I'm with ya.

  2. Of course it would be less than Pommers as Vanek has less than a year left and everyone and their grandmothers know he's signing with the wild. Question is, why would the Isles make this trade? They're giving up a guy who put up 30 goal seasons in each of the last 3 full years. Plus their 1st and 2nd? I think we came out on top because now we can still flip Moulson at the deadline if need be.

  3. Shhh don't tell anyone this but the Sabres aren't drafting 1st overall unless they win the lottery. I can easily see this team drafting 5-7th... they are very quietly becoming a real team... mums the word.

I don't know LGR. I admit that I only watched about half of the Colorado game as it was the first Saturday Sabres game night in awhile that I didn't feel the need to tune into from start to finish. Having said that, I thought they were thoroughly outplayed, again. I do like some of the young pieces coming along and think Girgs and our D have a very bright future but we're getting outplayed badly in most games. In past years when the Sabres made those late runs there were signs earlier in the season that the team was atleast competitive. I don't see that with this team and if/when Miller and Vanek go, we're really going to be in trouble. I honestly believe we're finishing in the bottom 3 which means the worst we could pick is 4th. Time will tell.

  4. Good post. It blows my mind that so many people seem to think that this is going to work. Let's suck ass for a few years and all will be well. Really?? If it was that easy every team would follow that model. Why for the love of God do so many of you think our next big star is always just a year or two away. Every freaking year it's someone different. Then when reality sits in we hang our hat on someone else. The flavor of the week right now is J.T. Compher. Really??? 95% of us have never seen this kid skate. Could be standing next to us in the grocery store and you would have no clue.

Stop living in a fantasy world. The reality is we are the worst team in the NHL. We are one of the worst teams in the AHL. All these damn prospects we talk about are no different than half the other teams in the league.

This management and ownership is an absolute joke and if you are one of the few on here that are buying into this crap then you are a damn fool!!

Ummmm maybe because we don't have many (any?) stars right now so rather than throw my hands in the air and say I'm never going to watch or support this team, you hope that there is someone around the corner. I have absolutely no say in the teams plans (nor do you) but as a fan of a hockey team that's the only hope I have right now. I can't change anything so rather than piss and moan day in and day out, I'm going to look to the future. I hope Darcy gets fired and a braintrust can come in here and turn things around but what can I talk about now that doesn't involve b*tching about how bad my hockey team is. If it's so bad and you don't enjoy it, don't watch.

  5. Which is why the unsuccessful tank last season hurts. That looked like a great opportunity to begin a Pens or Hawks type rebuild.

Although I do agree with wishing we had a top 3 pick in last years draft, I still think (hope?) 5 years from now if this team has turned it around they will be talking about multiple cornerstones of the team picked in last years draft: Risto, Zadarov, Compher.

  6. I'm thinking more based on THIS draft. In this draft there was considered to be six ELITE prospects. Getting into the top five lands one of them. We were just on the outside looking in, as usual. And generally 35 + 8 is about = to moving from 8 to 5. In a draft like that one, I tend to lean towards taking the move up. But I do really like Compher.

I think it's because I've liked everything I've read and watched on Compher that I'm not as upset as others that we didn't move up but still traded Sekera. Sounds like this kid plays with a ton of energy and competitiveness. It's sad when you have to consider things as competitiveness when evaluating a professional athlete, but we do.

  7. The problem is that they ended up doing basically the same deal later picking up a second round pick. I can understand it to a point, but we really need guys like Monahan/Lindholm. Taking two defensemen when we already have a whole bunch of NHL prospects there makes little sense. That's what you do if you have the luxury to do so. We didn't/don't.

I'm not saying whether or not they should have made the Sekera and 8 for 5 and Mcbain if it was available but the trade for the second rounder is superior to moving up 3 spots IMO. The Sabres picked up pick 35. IMO adding 35 > moving from 8-5. The Sabres obviously valued having Compher and Risto more than Lindholm/Monaghan.

Secondly, I don't think too many people thought Zadarov would be sitting there at pick 16. I think their intention was to go into the draft and take Risto at 8 because they valued him the highest and then wanted to take the best available forward at 16 but when Zadarov was still there it was just too much for them to pass up. There was alot of chatter about how great Lindholm will be at the draft (which may very well be true) but I'm nowhere near ready to say Lindholm will be a better prospect then Risto let alone Risto AND Compher.

  8. One might say because he never wanted to take even one more life but then I'd say he killed Todd two minutes previous. The only reason I guess makes sense is Walt told him too and that was Jesse's revenge by not and knowing he'd die anyways. I just wasn't satisfied with that I guess.

The real part that had me disappointed at the end was the ricin debacle. I mean they had been talking about that the whole second half of the series! Lydia? Really??

  9. Are you guys serious??

Sorry, just caught up to the finale now. I've loved and I mean loved this whole series but what a terrible ending. I mean the majority of the episode was so slow and I thought the goodbye to the family was cheesy. The way the ricin has been discussed the whole series I thought it would have had so much meaning in the end. I mean they started the last 8 episodes by showing Walt going back for the ricin. And it's to kill Lydia?? A boarderline secondary character who has little in the way of history with Walt. Really?! Jesse doesn't kill Walt at the end? I mean I know he though he was going to die anyways but talk about anti-climatic. Also, he tries getting his money to his kids by simply threatening Gretchen? I don't know guys, like I said I loved the series but I thought it was a really weak ending. Then again, I seemed to be one of the only ones to like the Sopranos ending......

  10. Yeah, so they picked *two* guys that now have leverage. :)

That was my first thought lol. I heard multiple reports that the choice will represent how the team will be going forward. Does that mean we are anywhere close to re-signing these guys? I hope so. I haven't heard any talk of it but Darcy does keep his cards close to his chest.

  11. I'll play devils advocate here in regards to Ott being captain. This is just me throwing it out there and not what I believe to be true or that contract situations should play a roll in who is selected captain. Having said that, apparently Ott and the Sabres are far apart regarding salary on a contract extension. By giving Ott the C you providing him with significantly more negotiating power which leads to the Sabres to overpaying for him or losing him come July. I say you give Vanek the C and hope the team plays well enough that he signs an extension.
