Looking at Moneypuck, the Sabres goaltending is sitting 24th in the league in 5 on 5 Goals Saved Above Expected.

At the same time, the Sabres are 9th best in High Danger Shots Against (albeit 19th in Medium Danger).

At the end of the day, the D are giving up golden scoring chances, but there are 21 teams that are doing worse. But, there are only 8 teams getting less dependable goaltending than us.

Once again, not getting league average goaltending has been our Achilles heel. I'll also say, nothing deflates a team better than a weak goal against.

Stats. Yeah, the Bills defense always has good stats. Except when it counts. Sometimes the eye test is also valuable. I think the defense is bad as well as goalkeeper.

We need a good goalie also. Comrie is at 3.65 gaa And Anderson is well on his way to being over 3 gaa. Tuff to win consistently when you have to score 4+ goals every game. Would be nice if our goalie would steal a game now and then as well.

Well maybe if we could play defense our gaa might come down. Nice open aggressive play? Ok but forwards need to think defense at least some of the time. Bottom line is our goaltending is not great but our defense may be worst.

Pat LaFontaine put a curse on them.

We don't deserve it, but we have an owner who knows nothing about hockey constantly hiring inexperienced people and flipping the plan over and trying again and never handing the keys over to an experienced hockey guy(s) who knows what he's doing and isn't learning on the job making mistakes.

The best players on this roster were acquired by JBot. KA flipped the assets Murray acquired for picks and prospects (Tuch excepted) that may or may not pan out. If they do, it'll be closer to being fixed, if they don't, it's just gone full circle and gotten us nowhere.

If Pegula had handed this team over to somebody like Rick Dudley years ago we wouldn't be in this mess.

Agree. I'm still hopeful the owners stumbled on a good guy in Adams. He seems to have a plan and seems also to be a stable type to carry it out. Do wish he'd have done more about goalkeeper.

The problem with that statement for Eichel is, there are too many steps between Eichel and Mcdavid.

Many wanted to (and some still do) beleive there was McDavid then a step down to Eichel. The reality is there is McDavid, then Matthews, Draisatil, Ovi, Kaprizov, Kreider, Gaudreau, Huberdeau, Stamkos, Tkachuk, Panarin, McKinnon, Crosby, Barkov, Connor, a few others, and THEN Eichel.

Eichel is taking up over 12% of his teams cap space on a team that is stretched in that a regard. His team gave up 3+ first rounders for him (Tuch, Krebs, and last years 1st). He is tied for 111th in the league in points per game since you have been with Vegas. Since he started his career, he is 25th in the league in points per game, and 47th overall in points (partly because he has had so many games missed to injury).  My point is you simply cannot have the lack of effort you displayed on that play the other day, or he has displayed many other times over his career and even since he has been with vegas (many of those plays shown here and/or on Twitter).

If you are getting paid that much, and your team gave up so many assets for you, you have to be better in the D-zone, regardless of how long your shift was (if his shift was something absurd like 1.5 minutes, then he needed to get off the ice and let someone else on)

Was it scouting or media build up or maybe both that appear to have had Jack way above what it appears he is. For sure not "generational" and not to be mentioned in the same conversation with McDavid. I think Jack is a very good player but as you mentioned if the draft were held again knowing what we know now he'd be considerably lower in the draft order. This isn't rare in drafts but the super hype for Jack seems to be quite far off at least at this point in time.

Keeping Tuch on line 2 in an effort to balance out a top 6 doesn’t appear to be working. Thompson I think needs Tuch, and Mittelstadt leaves a lot to be desired as a 2C looking to centre a 2nd scoring line in compliment to line 1. We just don’t have the high end talent right now to balance the lines I don’t think, at least for now I’d return to a loaded up top line and hope the rest can capitalize under the shelter of a working first unit

Agree. But it's early with only two games in. Frankly Mitts is a big concern for me.
