    What would our offer be?

He'd be an amazing pickup and I'd imagine many teams would be after him but any trade offers they get will depend on MTs willingness to sign an extension. If he's hell bent on going UFA next summer Calgary won't get much for a rental. In that way, MT will be able to control where he's traded to. Obvious speculation around St Louis but who knows about that.

I guess I didn't need you to explain to me the financial realities of the NBA. Regardless of the specifics it's obvious that it's a league full of greedy shitheads who will if not now, will eventually turn anyone with a brain against them. Just look at how morally corrupt the NBA is when they run scared of China and the way they have treated the Uyghurs. The players cry about being slaves after signing contracts worth 100's of millions while looking away as these poor people are herded into concentration camps and forced to be China's slaves. This is not a political statement but one about humanity.

Corporate shitheads gonna corporate shithead.  There are plenty of things that are wrong in this country and all of the major leagues and major corporations generally keep well clear of it. Every time they, or the players don't, there is a large group of people more than happy to tell them just to just up and play and stop polluting their entertainment with politics. There is still a large group of people who are more than happy to gloat that Colin Kaepernick got run out of the league because he said things that challenged their beliefs and wore a pair of socks that made them sad.  The NHL just last year drafted an absolute turd of a human being who was convicted of abusing a person with special needs. People on this board defended his right to, and I'm paraphrasing, grow as a human and learn from his mistakes.  If you're going to go all in on the lack of morality in the world, go right ahead, but singling out the NBA and/or its players misses the mark by quite a lot.

The NBA has turned into a farce of a league. The players are grossly overpaid mercenaries while the owners are fools. It's almost as if they are purposely facilitating the leagues demise.

Salaries are based on revenues. There are a max of 15 guys on a roster, only 7 or 8 really play a lot of minutes and usually only 2 or 3 that make ridiculous money. What makes them overpaid compared to players in other sports?  The salary cap rules are way more complex than other sports and allow for several exceptions but that isn't new at all. Given those exceptions just about everyone can be over the cap most years but even if you took next year's cap figure of ~$150M and divided among 15 guys those salaries are going to be wayyyy higher than those of the NHL who have rosters of 23 guys and a cap of only $81.5M.

The NBA generated about 10 billion in revenue last season, the NHL generated half of that.

Understand, I don't care for the NBA product either, but a LOT of people around the world do.

You my issue with this? These guys need the heat on them. I don't want to isolate them, I want them to succeed for fail based on their ability to overcome and adapt. Sick and tired of the Sabres bringing in a "tough gritty guy" to help with other teams teams chippiness. ***** that, if Jack Quinn can't handle it than he needs to learn how to. If Krebs can't handle it, figure it out. I want them to be physically burdened because that's how they will learn.

Also, Rasmus Dahlin is entering his 5th season and already brings it on the PP and at 5v5. No reason to demote him in anyway just to bring in Klingberg.

You have two PP units and if bringing in one guy, who is also pretty good at hockey mind you, to set a tone is a problem I dunno what to tell you.

It's not going to matter, they aren't signing either of them.

Kadri hadn't hit more than 19 goals in 4 seasons and has an absolute career year in his contract year. He's gonna go right back to his normal point totals.

Obviously it depends on what the numbers are but for the current team I'd want him to take some of the heat off the kids. He provides secondary scoring and a hard charging style. He would be the focus of the other teams chippiness and take some of the physical burden off the young guys who aren't ready for it. Plus you are talking about a guy who has gone through all sorts of adversity, some of his own making some not, and won a Cup. Not only won a Cup but played a big role doing it.

IMO Klingberg would serve a similar role for the defense. He takes the heat off Dahlin and Power to bring it on the PP every night and he brings experience to the group. Obviously the numbers matter a lot as to whether those roles make sense for the Sabres or not but that how I'd want their roles to be defined.

I was joking about Kadri and Klingberg late last night but oddly TSN That's Hockey put Buffalo on the short list of possible destinations for both of them so maybe it's not an impossible dream.

We did that everybody (including myself) would stop talking about Ottawa.

They have the money to do big dollars on medium term if they wanted to.  I'll believe it when I see it but I think both of them are exactly what the team needs to turn the corner.  I'm not giving massive term to either though.

I'm reading it as you don't save much this year on the buyout?  If not, I'd keep him at least this year if not next.  He seems like one of those good, older veteran type players you want around the youngsters for a season or two.  I don't know if the Sabres would do it or not though.  I'm sure they'll have a wide selection of these types of trades if they decide to do one.

I don't think there's a need to buyout. If you retain, someone will give you something. He's still productive, just not worth his current aav.

Easiest way would be to not sign/trade Laine.  If they're going to sign Laine, they're gonna have to move Voracek or a Nyquist and/or Bjorkstrand.

I like Bjorkstrand, but just saw he was a minus 35 last year.  Yikes!

Voracek with CBus retaining some would be interesting because we could retain flip him again for a pick. Voracek at say a 3.5m hit is way more interesting than Voracek at an 8.5m hit

Well I've got news for you, no matter who they signed this year they probably weren't getting there so I guess you'll need to see how he performs as a regular first before you dismiss him out of hand.

Wonder if you did the same thing with Hasek when they trade for him. Not comparing him to Hasek at all, but just saying... don't dismiss someone out of hand when they performed well in a more limited role.

There is a chance he might not be able to handle a bigger role, but there is also a chance he might be able to.

And I don't want to hear the Carter Hutton comparison...Hutton was at the end of his prime when he got here Comrie is 27 and just entering his.

You lost me at Carter Hutton and prime.
