One of the worst drives home. I missed the 86 exit due to whiteout conditions.

Good times. Reinforcing my decision to change my mind and stay home this weekend.  As the week went on my couch looked warmer and safer each day.

Halfway there and they’re done like dinner. I really wish KA would make himself available to the media on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Answer a few questions. Tell us how he feels things are progressing. Pipe dream ? Whatevs. The transparency would be nice.

I seriously doubt that those comments would assuage your bereavement.

He's currently centering Skinner and Tuch.

And he leads the team in points.

He's also the host house for the video game crew of a team that sucks at home.

I don't need him to coach my team, but every now and again there is value in asking "What would John Tortorella do?" I'm pretty certain Mitts would not be on Torts' "keep" list.

Game times are perfect. 4pm Saturday, 1pm Sunday, 1pm Monday. In fact I'm going to be there Sunday and Monday.

I'm going up for the Bills game, will be there Saturday, and it hadn't even occurred to me to check if the Sabres were playing or what tickets for that would cost. Not even a consideration. Now that I know, I still don't care. That's where I'm at with this. They get zero dollars until they make the playoffs. Zero. No more hype, or hope, or patience. None of that crap. Win. Show me. Until then? No money.

Starting to believe KA is just happy to collect high picks. Give him a decade or so and he might round into a decent gm. But at this rate he seems content to tread water I doubt he carves out a long career as one. Who knows ?

He's a guy who buys nice wine and bourbon, puts it on a rack, never opens it and never sells it but talks about it lovingly whenever asked. He's just waiting for it to mature.

One of the commentators said during the game that good goaltending leads to good play. It helps build confidence in their game. I agree 100%. Why we couldn't just improve one position over what the last three four seasons is beyond me. Oh yeah KA Still Waiting Office Tv GIF by The Office

I don't eve need a GOOD goaltender. An NHL competent one will do just fine. Wouldn't want to block the kids though.  Can't win a little while we're waiting for them to rot <cough> ripen on the vine.

I looked at tix prices earlier.. 22 bucks for uppers.... Nah

Figured I would watch tonight... Nah.

Caught up on my binging of Fargo, on season 2 now, it's super good.

The spent the evening and made a pistachio bechamel sauce and rolled my own pasta, made a loaf of sourdough bread and got fat.

Checked the score and def made the right decision.

Turned it on at 1-0. Turned it off shortly after down 2-1. The decision was the correct one. How nothing has been done absolutely astounds me. Is Kevyn Adams real? Does he actually exist or is he an AI construct?

If I were a marketing person at the Sabres or even the owner, I'd be worried about the age of the fan base.

Unless all the kids are on Sabres Tock Tick.

All sports are worried about this. The people that attend games are getting older and older every year.

I see @SDS gave you the old eye roll but you're not all wrong. There's quite a few people here that have commented on how we have too many of the same guy and too many small fast guys and not enough tougher two way guys. It's an obvious fact. There also aren't enough D men in the system. We've reached on some lower picks and if any of them develop that's fine but now that Johnson is (sort of) on the roster there's nothing in the pipeline pressing to come through on D. It's a problem.

Even if a Savoie (as an example) is worthy, there's no spot for him. We already have that guy. I guess you can say Kulich bumps Olofsson off the roster next year (maybe) but so what? Won't change a thing.

No hockey tonight and so I'm watching Shorsey. "One top scoring line surrounded by tough natives, never lose again"  Dumb, probably racist, but not all wrong.

"The kids don't hate to lose" . There is wisdom there too.

    "tough natives is redundant"

If the Sabres do not score the first goal, I'd fire Granato during the first intermission.

Actually, if the Sabres don't win the entirety of their remaining games, I'd fire Granato. Win the rest of the games or you're FIRED

    How's that for urgency

The clip is fine for work, but the whole video is not.

This could work. The CHL doesn’t like letting these types of players go because it worsens their league. With less flashy players on the ice, there’s less butts in the seats. You are correct, it’s just about money, not player development. Compensation for their potential loss in revenue may work.

And if people feel like there need to be limits that's fine too. Maybe club can only have x amount of dollars spent in that way at any given time. 1M seemed like a good number to me, that's 2 years of 1 guy or 1 year of 2 guys at the same time.  If a whole bunch of teams did this, sure, the older better but not Bedard level players would be out of the CHL but it would also be a HUGE cash infusion for the league, create an incentive to develop guys in year one so teams buy them out year 2, and provide a counterargument for players who choose to avoid the CHL entirely right now to avoid this problem.

Would’ve been better on the Amerks instead of being dicked around in WHL.

I have a solution to this CHL issue. The CHL teams want to keep the players to protect the league but it's also to make money. As you see, when the CHL team doesn't think they can win, or wants to tank, they have non-issue moving these kids for compensation. The problem with moving them to the NHL is they get nothing out of it. If there were an agreement in place where NHL teams could buy out the CHL contract the CHL teams would be more open to it. Make the fee high enough so that NHL teams would really have to think about doing it and would only do it for exceptional players but not so high that it never happens at all. Maybe have the fee tiered based on how many eligible years you are buying out, 2 costs more than one. What would you all feel is a reasonable fee in this scenario? 500k USD per season of eligibility?  For example, Moose Jaw had about 750k in the bank and an operating loss of 280k (both presumably CAD) at the end of last season.  A 500k air drop of cash into the franchise would be huge for them.  It also gives the big clubs more of a way to control player development.  You really don't want your guy going to a second tier club for the second half of his second season of eligibility? Fork over the cash and he can go to the A instead.
