I think he always had the energy and was using it to get noticed, to get ice time. With the ice time he's getting experience and settling in and knows better what to do in a given situation. That's my take, anyway. I think GMTM was wise in picking this guy up; if he continues on this trajectory I can see him being a significant part of the rebuild. Sure, he scored, but his defensive play is impressive too, which creates opportunities. The D know that when he's on their wing, they can join the rush and know Nicky D has their back covered.

Recall that he's only been a forward for a couple years. He was a defenseman that the Kings wanted to try at forward when in the AHL.

  2. I'd prefer Makarov stay in Roch and get playing time rather then sit on bench in Buffalo. Get Marty Biron to fill in, he's already on the Pegula payroll at Harborcenter.

I just read an article where Irbe suited up for the second period on. Could he have played? If so, why couldn't a scratched player come down from the press box if needed every game? Is there a special rule for goalies?

Yes the rule is different for goalies. The league always wants two goalies dressed in case of injury. They had Irbe sign a pro contract between periods. He could have played.

And the Sabres still have no clue how to cover their own zone. They continually are covering the same ice as a teammate. That's all about coaching and not clearly establishing where guys should be on the ice. They are still confused at times.

Paul Hamilton has said that Nolan repeatly shows the players in practice where they should be, but then in games they panic and don't go where they were told to go. Some players are not disciplined enough to stick to the plan.

The other day I put on 1975 Flyers/Sabres Game 6 (it's in the classic section on Gamecenter). One thing that stood out for me was the passing wasn't that great, lots of pucks off sticks and just plain bad passes.

That could have been because of bad ice. The Aud wasn't air conditioned, and it got hot in there, thus the 'fog' games.

  5. @BNHarrington: Kaleta on return: "It's hard to put into words. You guys have no idea how much this means to me ... to suit up and play for the #Sabres."

@BNHarrington: Kaleta said fiancé woke him up every 3 hours for meds after facial injury. Fred Jackson brought milkshake & provided eye black, shield tints.

@BNHarrington: More Kaleta: "I despise losing. I don't like people talking about tanking the season. I hate that. A competitor hates to lose." #Sabres

  6. I hate Flo from Progressive. I listen to stations like WGR through TuneIn, and she is on every commercial break no matter what station I'm listening to.

I also hate the WGR commercial with the roofing guy who gets all philosophical and does things like compares roofing to the Crusades.

  7. Took a couple pucks to the head on Sunday night and haven't felt right all week. Tylenol Extra Strength seems to help but I feel pretty crappy. Not sure if it's muscle related or concussion related but it sucks either way.

That happened to me when I was coaching a few years ago. Got hit on the head while on the bench twice within a couple weeks. After second, woke up the next day with room spinning and it wouldn't stop. Wife and son had to help me into car to go to ER. Had Vertigo, and had to stay in bed for a couple days. It took over a month before I felt normal. But I still play hockey, and the occasional bump to the head still makes me dizzy.
