Ryan O’Reilly and Sam Reinhart are the only two players I’ve “liked” since the drought began. I’m defining liked as if I were making a fantasy team of all my favorite players in the NHL in any given season, those are the only two from the Sabres I would have on my team.

If Dahlin is healthy enough to play, he’s healthy enough to play well. If he can’t perform beyond what we’re seeing because of an injury, rest him.

The Sabres are the anti-Bills. Just as everyone should assume the Bills will win the division until they don’t, everyone should assume the Sabres won’t make the playoffs until they do. When the Bills were the anti-Sabres, this mindset took absolutely nothing away from making the playoffs against the Jags.

No, not at all. I’m saying that while Byram is playing better now, it would take years of sustained play for his trade value to be higher than Dahlins in the opinion of NHL GMs. I don’t think either should be traded, their respective trade values is just how I’m measuring “best.”

I’m confused what you can’t believe. If Dahlin is hurt then it makes sense why Byram has been more solid. If it’s the trade part, then I’m more confused because I’m not sure how any GM would take one season of Byram better than Dahlin over their career body of work. It wouldn’t surprise me if Dahlin is our best dman at the end of the season, but that’s not how I read your question. Could be on me.

This year I think Byram has been our most solid. It would take several seasons at a higher level than now to fetch more than Dahlin in a trade though.

Rasmus Dahlin is very good at puck skills and lateral movement on the offensive blue line. Those are flashy plays and require a ton of confidence in your ability to not mess up. That’s why he was drafted 1st, because if you have that and the rest of your skills develop, you’re going to be very, very good. Dahlin hasn’t developed new skills since being drafted. That isn’t to say he hasn’t improved (he has) but he hasn’t become dynamic in other aspects of the game.
