  1. I am so sick of this. Tank, McEichle, lottery picks, blah blah blah. This is what a once proud franchise has resorted to. We are better than this.

And please spare me with the"its better then mediocrity and first round exits". No its not. 2 1/2 years AT LEAST of this ###### IS NOT better than looking forward to opening night and enjoying 7+ months of meaningful hockey.

Hoping that at the end of 6 months we are in last or second to last place is embarrassing to both the franchise and the fans.

This won't be a nightly rant. I won't be watching that long. Getting to the point i could care less what happens next June, next year, or 5 years from now. I lost my passion for the Bills awhile ago. Feel it happening with this joke as well.

We are what our record is....and it is better than first round exits. This is meaningful. It is a barometer of where we are.
  2. With what? He's looked confused a couple times. Ran into Gionta when it was clear Gionta was trying to wheel behind the net. Changed right in front of his partner which almost turned into a bad turnover.

So does Moulson and Jorges. Positioning and puck movement he has been solid.
  3. Eerily similar to last year....Sabres being outshot, taking too many penalties, but still right in the game. I don't see this team getting smoked too many times this season.

But this team, CBJ, is a walking triage unit. Need to cut down on penalties, it is lazy play.
  4. But we also have Ristolainen the 8th overall, Grigorenko the 12th overall, Girgensons the 14th overall, Zadorov the 16th overall, Pysyk the 23rd overall. Myers the 12th overall, Ennis the 26th overall, plus whatever we add with the 3 first rounders this year. I want McDavid or Eichel but honestly, we don't have to get them to win, it would just help justify the suffering and elevate the talent level faster.

There are a lot of defense on that list and little top ten scoring. Jury is still out on Ennis and Grigs but i do not see Girgs being an elite scorer. A solid 3C pk, shut down type player and that is ok. If Armia (16th?) can score 30 and any of Baptiste, Fasching, Compher, Possler, et al are 25/50 guys then I might agree with you. But Having a McEichel that other teams have to game plan for makes our chances that much better.
  5. I picked 2007 as a starting point for the Blackhawks when the new management took over, and Rocky Wirtz overturned his father's applecart and started the actual rebuilding progress, by hiring a new president and coach within a year's time or so. So I was equating 2006-07 with our 2012-13 season, and 2007-08 as our 2013-14 season. They had 5 tank years of not making the playoffs compared to our 3 so far. But picks are only as good as the management doing the picking. The Hawks didn't start to make effective drafts and trades (other than Toews) until Rocky Wirtz took over after his father passed, and within a year of that is when Joe Quenville was brought on board too, before the start of the 08-09 season.

With the changes to the team so far, I just can't see them staying below 60 points for 2014-15. I think they'll be better than that, so I'm guessing we'll see progress starting this season with a 70-80 point season, and hopefully the team continuing to improve moving forward.

Again you are wrong. The current roster was put together primarily under Dale Tallon and Old Man Wirtz.
  6. Why do we need to tank two years in a row?

The Blackhawks' "Tank" season was 2006-2007, and they finished 5th in the Central, with the 4th worst overall record in the league with 71 points, which earned them the number 1 pick

The rebuilding was 2007-08 with new management. They finished 3rd in the Central with a jump up to 88 points in the first season after the management change, did not qualify for the playoffs

2008-09, they finished 2nd in the Central, with 104 points. They made it into the 3rd round of the playoffs, being defeated in the Conference Final by the Wings

2009-10, 112 points, finished 1st in the Central, and won the Stanley Cup.

So, using the Blackhawks rebuild as a model, 2013-14 was the Hawks 2006-07

This year 2014-15 - SHOULD show improvement - up to the 80 point mark,

Then 2015-16, we should be making the playoffs.

I can't believe GMTM isn't fully aware of the Blackhawks' schedule for a rebuild. I would think he believes he can turn this team around in a similar time frame. Why do we need or want two tank years in a row? Actually, 3, because 2012-13 was pretty dismal too! 80 points this season would seem like an enormous improvement compared to last season; we won't be hitting the playoffs but it won't be a tank either - at least I hope not.

Because you ignore 2005-2006. They finished 3rd worst in the league behind St Louis (Erik Johnson) Pittsburgh (Jordan Staal) and took Jonathan Toews with the third overall pick. Toews returned to college at North Dakota and the Hawks finished dead last the following year where they took Kane. During that season after the NCAA's they signed Toews, signed Kane and were on their way. We got one draft in with the second overall, now we need one more with an elite talent and we can be on our way.
  7. I think the D will be better as well, barring injury (which I am not even remotely wishing for.) In 3 years it will be even better with the Young Turks having gained valuable experience at the NHL and AHL level. I think Ulmark may the dark horse "Next Great Sabres Goaltender", I watched a lot of his SHL games on Hockeystreams.com. But what worries me and always has, is the idea the the blue collar lunch pail type of approach will win in the NHL consistently. Kopitar is a stud! Gaborik is a great talent. And Boston didn't make it to the cup finals. Without a superstar we can still compete. With a superstar we can be a juggernaut. A lot of the players on the farm are "bring it every night" players and that's great. Are any 40-50 goal scorers? I guess we will see.

  8. I find the folks interesting that said "it is not about McEichel, it is about get the best players we can" that showed up in the last 24hrs with posts along the lines of, "If we don't get McEichel it's a failure".

Personally, I think we've got nearly all of our new core. IMO If we don't get a top 3 pick we are still headed towards a future where this team is talked about being at the top of the playoff brackets. Let's play some F'in hockey.

Talked about and being perennially expected are two different things. I prefer the latter. And I still do not see the dominant scorer on the wing on either of the first 2 lines. The farm is loaded i get it, but maximizing a premium position (3 firsts, 2 seconds) in a very talented and deep draft means walking away with a game changer, not just a good player. If that happens then the "suffering" was crap because you could have avoided the crash and kept feeding the masses near misses and hope for next year. I for one want excellence and the Sabres are poised to position themselves for excellence for a long time. Again JMHO. And I am one of those who believe it IS all about McEichel.
  9. I hope this is an aberration, because losing the McEichel sweepstakes for a late near miss for a.one and done playoff experience is akin to starting the Darcy era all over again. I wrote the season off after we got the Isles pick and would like to see it through. Finishing above 3 and not winning the cup would be an abject failure to me. Jmho.

  10.

Please feel free to list that talent. You really think our farm system is Cup material? Find me a 30 goal scorer in that group. For that matter find me 20. Grigs and Armia have more of a chance to be busts than solid players. Zadarov is know being questioned about weight, skating, and work ethic. Reinhart has done nothing (i understand he has limited time here) in prospect camp or Traverse City.

I knew someone would jump to the defense of the tank so I wasn't worried about delay. But I will try to keep the tc mo rolling. Having lived in Pittsburgh during their halcyon days with Lemieux Jagr Francis st al and now I live in Chicago. It is different when hour expectation is elevated. Yeah I know injuries etc, but when you have talent and depth it changes your outlook. As for natural goal scorers, Baptiste, Possler, and yes Armia are all in that group. But don't discount Risto, Ennis, and Moulson. We have them and are adding more. We have talent and will build an environment where players exceed expectations. But we must weather one more storm.
  11. I just have this horrible feeling we go through all this TANK crap and we walk away with the 5th or 6th pick in the draft. We have been into this tank for close to two years now. Jury is still out as to what we have to show for it. Can we honestly say our talent pool is that great? Deep yes - highly skilled I don't think so.

I just look forward to the day that when training camp starts our goal is to be the best team possible. Whatever the results end up being is fine by me as long as we are trying. Trying to suck is really getting old.

Last year we all spent the entire season debating and dreaming of Reinhart, Eckblad, etc. Well Reinhart is here and we are already questioning his skill level. Now we can dream of McEichel. I am tired of dreaming. Let's play some damn competitive hockey for a change.

Which usually means narrowly missing the playoffs or being bounced in the first round. Here in Chicago the pre camp hype is did they do enough to regain the Cup? I would rather have that level of expectation then wondering if we can make a playoff push. Adding talent at the rate and level we are will help that.
