I wonder how much the Sabres paid for that promotion opportunity.
Pegs paying himself? None dollars.

If Benson makes the team, why can’t it simply mean that:
a) they think he’s ready? and
b) they think he helps them win?
And if he doesn’t, why can’t it mean they think he’s not, and they don’t?
Ever the voice of reason. Sincere thanks for your contributions to this forum.

I'd like to be encouraged by this news.
However, I recall hearing/reading that the injured shoulder is the same one that he had injured a while back. This has the feel of a situation where the player's trying to stave off surgery in order to make the team. Colour me concerned.
Maintenance Day podcast said it was not the same shoulder.

Haven't you seen enough new players get hurt over the years to at least give you pause?
That's where the 9 game stint makes sense. It's still early in the season where teams aren't settled into the grind and are building momentum toward January/February slug fests. It's the safest time for him to be out there and see how he manages.
How many “new players” get hurt in comparison to established players? Any data at all?
The safest time to be out there? Teams aren’t giving their all until later? Again, any data available re: the safest time to play?

And, FWIW, I am advocating he get a 9 game look.
You are willing to risk his safety for nine games for entertainment reasons?
-
Give him 9 games and determine what is best for the team at that point. The goal is to compete for the Cup this year. If it looks like that goal is more likely to be realized with Benson in the lineup, LFG!

I could have missed it but was it mentioned why Tuch was held out tonight?
Intermission report on WGR said general soreness.

It's not about hockey and it's off-topic.
This seems important to you. Why is that?

This organization loves doing this
Any examples of gifting a roster spot to someone that sucked in preseason/camp? If the organization loves doing this there must be several. Help me out.

Just because it's a hockey player talking doesn't make this anything more than an OT thread.
There should be a wtf reaction emoji available.

Not impressed with Johnson for all the hype.
I was there for the first two periods and thought he was the best player for Buffalo.

idk, you don't want it to be true, but more often than not when these things pop up they are in fact true. Context and detail are sometimes blurry, but the overall issue is usually true. Usually.
This could explain the separation between the Bills/Sabres.
Anything at all in the way of data to support “usually” and “more often than not”?

Legit shutdown defenseman. Langway-ish.

I love everything about the guy. Him scoring an overtime winner and immediately pointing and sprinting towards Levi says it all. Can’t wait to find out his goal song for this year and hope there’s some Between Two Stalls.

So why isn't Zach Benson signed that's weird
nhl.com shows 6 first round picks have signed. How is it weird?

Ok, I think they'll release him.
Why would Bedard want to go? Love of country? He put up enough love at the most recent WJC. Seems unlikely the next big thing would be interested in taking a step backwards.

I think Chicago will release him for the tournament, yes. They have no plans to win this season and letting him go doesn't change that. At worst it hurts ticket sales for 2 weeks.
His professional hockey playing teammates won’t care either, right?

To complete my vent, I am certain any number of veteran players agree with me. No, I have no way of proving it. These are highly competitive men who want to win. That major needs go unaddressed can't sit well. Circumstantial evidence: the team collapsed after KA sat on his hands at the deadline.
Girgensons and Okposo both re-upped before free-agency started. Maybe the number that agree with you is a bit on the slim side.

This team will get absolutely destroyed in the playoffs If they even make the playoffs .
They have nobody that's gonna lay out the body
It has to get old at some point doesn’t it? I’m not talking about hockey.

Based on Benson practicing with Thompson and Skinner rather than Biro and Rousek a week out from the opener, I’ll predict your prediction will not be realized.
