We are in no mans land. We likely arent going anywhere in the standings.

The Sabres are an equidistant 7 points from the final playoff spot (DET) and last place in their own division (MTL). Currently holding the 8th overall pick again.

It's a fun distribution these past 11 drafts. Cozens and Savoie should be honorary eighths.

    1-Power, Dahlin
    2-Eichel, Reinhart
    7-Cozens
    8-Quinn, Mittelstadt, Nylander, Ristolainen
    9-Savoie
    13-Benson

  2. I'd be curious to know Dahlin's +/- with the Sabres goalie pulled this season.

Despite a career high in goals scored, he's not having the dynamic season he had last year. However, he's got a higher Corsi 5-on-5 than last season, and more blocked shots and hits. An average powerplay would have him closer to 70 points. He probably still tries to do too much and occasionally blows an assignment like every other defender. But overall, having the forwards do their jobs and finding a legitimate 2nd D pairing will be the things that make Dahlin a Norris contender.

Oh yes the vaunted 2012-13 Sabres. What a legendary team. Having those guys really made that team so good... I mean they had What? 80pts?

Edit: Sorry, lockout year. They had 48pts in 48 games. So that's an 82pt pace.

Yup, that team was utter garbage and had a center spine of kid-Hodgson, Ennis, Grigorenko, and Ellis (and Kevin Porter). They were already dismantling. But they weren't indifferent.

This team, with all their top 10 draft picks, has 75 points in 75 games for the very same 82-point pace.

  4. In the 2012 offseason, at least Regier signed John Scott and re-signed Kaleta. Matt Ellis skated on a garbage 4th line with the two of them. (Tarnasky was signed to the Amerks that same offseason.)

The game is different, but you can still sign players who will be teammates and stick up for each other and say, "No more."

And that team already had Foligno. And a soon to retire Cody McCormick. Girgensons was on that team! How can you all forget how to care for your own?

  5. Scrum in front of the Leafs net, every last one plays the body, even taking a penalty in the process with the tackle on Greenway rather than give up Samsonov's shutout.

Rebound in front of the Sabres net, a 59-goal scorer is left unmarked.

And I do want to note that Matthews is really good. He's gotten much better defensively. Here on this board he was derided. McDavid was called McClavicle. Eichel was, and remains worse, than both. (And Eichel is really good, too.)
