VO draws a penalty. Maybe put him out on the powerplay?

Either the Caps have the best transition game in the NHL or the Sabres don't bother to stop anyone in the

neutral zone or at their blue line.

47 active NHLers with 1000 games? Wow
I wonder, on average, how many playoff games they each have.

Caps goal: curl up inside the blue line and have someone go stand in front of UPL.
Sabres enter the zone, Thompson pulls up and Tuch is headed for the faceoff dot.- 1

I feel like Ovechkin will get closer to Gretzky's goals record tonight.

We are in no mans land. We likely arent going anywhere in the standings.
The Sabres are an equidistant 7 points from the final playoff spot (DET) and last place in their own division (MTL). Currently holding the 8th overall pick again.
It's a fun distribution these past 11 drafts. Cozens and Savoie should be honorary eighths.
1-Power, Dahlin
2-Eichel, Reinhart
7-Cozens
8-Quinn, Mittelstadt, Nylander, Ristolainen
9-Savoie
13-Benson- 1

I'd be curious to know Dahlin's +/- with the Sabres goalie pulled this season.
Despite a career high in goals scored, he's not having the dynamic season he had last year. However, he's got a higher Corsi 5-on-5 than last season, and more blocked shots and hits. An average powerplay would have him closer to 70 points. He probably still tries to do too much and occasionally blows an assignment like every other defender. But overall, having the forwards do their jobs and finding a legitimate 2nd D pairing will be the things that make Dahlin a Norris contender.

Oh yes the vaunted 2012-13 Sabres. What a legendary team. Having those guys really made that team so good... I mean they had What? 80pts?
Edit: Sorry, lockout year. They had 48pts in 48 games. So that's an 82pt pace.
Yup, that team was utter garbage and had a center spine of kid-Hodgson, Ennis, Grigorenko, and Ellis (and Kevin Porter). They were already dismantling. But they weren't indifferent.
This team, with all their top 10 draft picks, has 75 points in 75 games for the very same 82-point pace.

Byrum will probably not sign. He is not committed to the team like the others are.
Why would he want to be here any longer than he has to? Would you?
If I were Benson, and I cared about my career, I'd ask to be traded this very summer.

In the 2012 offseason, at least Regier signed John Scott and re-signed Kaleta. Matt Ellis skated on a garbage 4th line with the two of them. (Tarnasky was signed to the Amerks that same offseason.)
The game is different, but you can still sign players who will be teammates and stick up for each other and say, "No more."
And that team already had Foligno. And a soon to retire Cody McCormick. Girgensons was on that team! How can you all forget how to care for your own?

Post-game interviews in Buffalo: "Hey, Coach. Wow, Samsonov, eh?"
Post-game interview in a self-respecting hockey hotbed: "Hey, Coach. How pathetic is your team that they don't have the decency to drop their gloves at the end of the game. Not a single player. Do you think that's a reflection on you?"- 1

Exactly. Force Toronto to take some suspensions. Force the issue. Set a tone for yourselves, for the next game, for your fans who don't remain in the stadium.
Pathetic.

This team still needs a line brawl in the very worst way. And they have for 4 years.
At some point, someone will snap.

Line brawl. Whoever is next on the ice, line brawl. (Except Reaves... please don't go after him, Krebs. You'll die.)

Both teams. Pathetic.

Drop your damn gloves, folks. Start throwing.

Scrum in front of the Leafs net, every last one plays the body, even taking a penalty in the process with the tackle on Greenway rather than give up Samsonov's shutout.
Rebound in front of the Sabres net, a 59-goal scorer is left unmarked.
And I do want to note that Matthews is really good. He's gotten much better defensively. Here on this board he was derided. McDavid was called McClavicle. Eichel was, and remains worse, than both. (And Eichel is really good, too.)

For $7m/yr you have to score a goal there.
Putting a monetary value against an NHL goalie making a fabulous save will drive you to the dark side.

Benson helps Dahlin's shot get through with some stick checks to distract the defender out high and provide additional screening.
