They made their top 4 D trade already. This team is going to roll out Power, Byram, Dahlin and Muel next year as the top 4 and think nothing of it, even though Muel is a 5/6 and will get injured.

Totally agree on the bolded. I think they said: "Playoff experienced top-4 D? Check! Handedness, schmandedness." with Byram.

The only thing that gives me pause on the top 4 is this current lineup of Power-Dahlin. Jokiharju isn't going to break the bank on a bridge and if Byram-Joker gels the final 6 games, I think we easily see Muel start next season with Clifton (where they both belong, albeit as a pricey 3rd pair). But that's for summer conversations!

Novikov quietly leading the Amerks in +/- while also dropping 21pts in 58games. He's 3rd in points for defenders all while being 20 (won't be 21 until end of July) and this is his first season in NA. He is not our top prospect, but he is one of the most intriguing.

oh and for the "we aren't big enough crowd" or the "we aren't physical enough crowd", Novikov is 6'4" 198lbs and has a mean side.

I do think he makes his Sabres debut next season (a few games), just as reward and to get a look at him vs. NHL speed so he can start dreaming about the next level. Plus, they'll have to make a decision on Byram's potential cost vs. ELC Novikov and a Johnson bridge for 2025-26. The good thing is, he's currently blocked and there's no need to rush him. Novikov has to cut through the blast doors himself to make it to the bigs.

Note: Alternately, he's the key piece going out to get an established top 4 RHD, but that goes against the GM's youth-maturing-together plan.

The stats illustrate that the Sabres slow starts killed this season.  When the Sabres did come out strong, they nearly always won.  The coaching was unsuccessful in solving the problem of the slow starts.  Since KA is getting rid of the players, he needs to move on from the coaches that couldn't find a solution to the slow starts.

Lots of missed wins and loser points because of the slow starts. Any combination of 6 more points in the standings and we're having a fun April.

Coaching needs to have the team skating hard from the opening faceoff and not starting the game passively. Personnel needs a couple tone-setters for early in the game: an energy line. Something that Okposo and Girgs were unable to do anymore. That doesn't mean you have to run everyone and take penalties, but you can get the crowd home/away and your teammates energized with a fast-paced, hard-skating, aggressive first shift.

Boy is finally on a bender.

    9 goals, 8 assists, 17 points, +12 in his last 12 games.

Team is 7-5 over that stretch.

If he'd have been able to tie that to UPL's Jan-Feb hot streak, they're probably in the mid-80s for points and in the playoff picture (but, hand/wrist injury from blocking shots on the PK).

I think we’d need to know the numbers before deciding which term is best.  If it’s a 6 year deal worth $30 million, it’s a heck of a lot different than 8 years $56 mill.

The 6x$5M is what Farabee signed with Philly (now in the 2nd year of that deal). JJP and Farabee's first three seasons are very similar, and JJP has six more games to close the points gap (12). If you can sign JJP to that deal and get him producing on the top line at ppg production, then it's a massive win.

  6. We're seeing the GM ShEEEvyn run-it-back youth train lineup the remainder of the season. If the FO loves Zemgus, then he's back, and it looks like this:

    Peterka - Thompson - Tuch
    Benson - Cozens - Quinn
    Skinner - UFA 3C (Savoie) - Greenway
    Girgensons - Krebs - UFA 4W (Kulich)
    (Rousek)

    Power - Dahlin
    Byram - Jokiharju
    Samuelsson - Clifton
    (Johnson)

    Luukkonen
    Levi

  7. I hope Ovechkin gets the record for several reasons: 1) It's always fun to watch sports records fall, it shows progress and advancement (and drugs!); 2) it'll upset people, too, which is also fun; and 3) Gretzky has more assists than anyone else has career points. His ego and other records will be fine.*

*Unless there are massive NFL-style-offense-only rule changes.
