I'll take them myself. Cover me.

I'm currently in Tanzania trying to sell 90s Walkmen to the Maasai tribe. I'll be watching.

I'm planning on doing some bombing runs on the Massassi temple when I get the chance.

    So... another game tonight, eh?

I'm certainly happy that Murray saddled us with Okposo...

Murray's tenure wasn't as bad as his worst detractors would argue, but let's not go pretending there weren't major problems with the roster he was assembling.

Indeed, GMTM is not without serious flaws. Oi.... Okposo. Good guy, but the ICU experience and concussions... yup. It's a garbage contract --- paid for what he'd done, not for what he'd do. McNabb and 2 seconds for Fasching and DLo, also was pretty rough. A probably second-pairing D and 2 seconds for two 3/4 wingers.... not so helpful (even if the 2nds aren't quaranteed of anything).

The 1st we traded has the same likelihood of producing an NHL player as our 2nd rounder would. Once you hit pick ~20 you're basically in a really long second round.

And at this point (our complete nosedive the last 4 months) it's only a going to be about a 10-pick difference. But I like the sound of 3 first-round picks. And maybe we pair two of them to jump up a bit during the draft.

Please, Ted Nolan is not an NHL coach.

Hehehe. I concur with that statement, but he was here for the tank and that was simply an AHL roster. I wasn't going to use Byslma for comparison....  Or that one guy that replaced Ruff --- you know... the USDP teacher guy where we'd have an academy of hockey?

Ruff would bash Eichel's head in with a stick too many times though.... so maybe it's not the best solution.

All in all -- it's too back Murray didn't have people skills, because I liked his overall gathering of players. Coaching decisions... questionable. But the roster construction appeared to be underway to me. (enormous overpays to get his guys.... but for the most part I liked the makeup of his guys.) But, the league went small/speed --- and our owners like the soup du jour so in comes Botterill to go speed/small. It'll take time for those players to come up. And here we are.

It further emphasizes how bad the O'Reilly and Kane trades were.   Not getting NHL-ready prospects in return for top 6 fowards adds years to a rebuild that Botterill himself sabatoged.

The Sabres do not have a potential 2C for next season currently in their pipeline.  Botterill traded a first rounder he acquired in his doomed trades for Montour.  Montour is a good player, but he hasn't helped the overall team defense, and he doesn't fill the top 6 forwards gap.

There's no urgency in Botterill's plan, and it's going to cost him.

I think the Kane trade was OK --- he was going to test free agency so we ensured we got something. The Montour trade... I soured a bit on Guhle, but that 1st is a steep extra. Maybe a 2nd?

But now with the hindsight-mobile. This ROR deal is getting worse all the time.

Putting ROR back in the lineup and taking out Sobotka, Berglund, and Thompson.... then go and get a veteran 3/4C last offseason to help do the grunt work...  there are a handful of those Jay Beagle-esque guys out there each offseason. Go get one for a 3-year contract.... Sigh.

  6. While I don't want a re-tread Sabres coach or yet another alumni, I can't believe for a second that Ruff or Nolan wouldn't have this team playing better, supporting puck battles, and showing improvement over the season. I also think Ruff would have consistently sat Mitts and Dahlin for rest/recovery days, knowing that it's a grind.

But ... a grittier, battling team is also not the roster JBot has assembled. The GM and coach must be in concert.

I just can't physically get there this year. I can take no joy or silver lining from this mess. Them plummeting this far and fast can not be framed as good or beneficial in any way.

Exactly. It's one thing when the front office ices a team to get a top pick --- ala the tank, or Ottawa this season. Being in a great position at the 1/3-pole mark and then contending for a top 5 pick? That's something else.

(But I hope we win the lottery because we can use all the help we can get.) I'd rather we won 2 games in a row in the latter two thirds of the year, though.

Skinner has virtually vanished the last quarter of the season.  That one is mystifying.

He got snakebit in January/February and couldn't buy a goal despite still driving a ton of opportunities. But once the team went completely on coasting mode --- he's playing for self-preservation. He's earned a pay day next season and once your whole team checks out, there's not much more for him to prove this season.

1 regulation win in 21 games.

You can all hate me. But time to watch my new team............... Raleigh Hurricanes..........

Until the Sabres fire Housley and the entire coaching staff, sorry. I'm not following them any more.

    It's not hatred. It's jealousy. ;-]

Go have fun and watch enjoyable hockey. We'll welcome you back when you return.

They are afraid of body contact. Seen it all season, and teams are well aware.

It's a very soft team and got worn down by midseason. Even more telling is that we're now routinely down by 3 or so goals and no one does anything to invigorate the team. That doesn't mean a staged faceoff fight.... those don't exist anymore. But go take a run at someone. .... I know it's goofy, but the players were down when DLo was traded because he went and did stuff like that to get them going. Did he belong on the top line -- hell no, but a player like that has a role. We have a 6 bottom six forwards and none of them do anything to get the team going....    I guarantee you if the CBJ were down 3-0 on home ice, they'd have volunteers to make something happen.

The first smart move would be to not listen to his show.

It just isn’t good radio for hockey discussion.

The second smart move would be to listen to hockey central and spittin chicklets and a plethora of other hockey podcasts.

hell, even The Instigators show is better than Schoop and the Bulldog show.

I still think the Animal Draft of Schopp & the Bulldog is one the best segments of sports radio I've ever heard. Of course... it had nothing to do with sports.

I think Dahlin is mentally fatigued.

It's twice the hockey he's ever played... and none of the other defensemen on this roster did anything to keep him from being on the top pairing. Hey Jbot and (next year's) coach --- please don't grind Dahlin into dust before he has a chance to meet his destiny.

    Scandella out with an injury

    McCabe in for him

    Erod in for Pommers

McCabe will be rusty, but Scandella has been such a disappointment this season it can't be bad. Remember when we got Scandella and he played a smart, steady game and we were thinking "this is the veteran 2nd pair guy this team needs" and it was a worthwhile trade for Foligno?

I also like Rodrigues coming in for Pominville. ERod, Nylander, Olofsson --> a little preview of next season.
