I think Dahlin is mentally fatigued.

It's twice the hockey he's ever played... and none of the other defensemen on this roster did anything to keep him from being on the top pairing. Hey Jbot and (next year's) coach --- please don't grind Dahlin into dust before he has a chance to meet his destiny.

    Keep watching, or switch off?

How we'll dry out all her clothes....   Oh switch off! (but keep watching the game. We've got some kids to watch today)

    Scandella out with an injury

    McCabe in for him

    Erod in for Pommers

McCabe will be rusty, but Scandella has been such a disappointment this season it can't be bad. Remember when we got Scandella and he played a smart, steady game and we were thinking "this is the veteran 2nd pair guy this team needs" and it was a worthwhile trade for Foligno?

I also like Rodrigues coming in for Pominville. ERod, Nylander, Olofsson --> a little preview of next season.

Playing a team fighting for its playoff life?  Gee what could go wrong here?  Haven’t faced that one yet!?

I'd counter that the Blue Jackets haven't faced a team fighting for its tank life as strongly as us (at least, not since Atkinson clinched McEichel for us in 2015). And the Rangers just scored again. Maybe they overlook the Devils tomorrow and we dance our way up to #4.

I sure would love to see him get a shot at C and let him duke it out with Mitts between 2C and 3C.

Maybe that's why he's looked lost at the NHL level- he's just a natural center and the conversion to wing has been tough for him.

Lurk on! Possibly, but then we'd have needed one of them to be in ROC playing center in all phases this season, in the role Asplund got. ... I don't want them battling for 2C/3C next season on the Sabres. I want a 2C who's ready now and one of them can be 3C and the other either getting more seasoning or playing wing in a sheltered offensive role.

Rant at no one in particular: We can only break in so many players per season, as we've learned this season (Ullmark, Dahlin, Mitts, Thompson) is one too many, particularly if the folks we intend them to replace (Hutton, Ristolainen, Berglund, Okposo) aren't keeping them down by playing well. It's the old line from Torry Holt. Will you be a mentor for these young receivers? Yeah, I'll mentor them all the way to the bench. Our old guys didn't help out the team by keeping the rookies from having to do too much.

It's also why I have been saying that Dahlin is, potentially, the guy who should be the Captain and face of this franchise.  With time, he will emerge as a much better/more important player than even Eichel.

At least that is my prediction.

Will Eichel be our Taylor Hall? Hopefully when it's time to move him --- after yet another coaching/GM change, we get more than a second pairing d-man for him. Although by that time, maybe that'll be his value.

    Ouch....

Lots of issues obviously, these are some of my mine with the team.

    2. We aren't tough enough down low and in front of our net. We could seriously use some toughness, strength and defensive focus from especially the D-men. But, we don't have any big, tough centerman types who can help down low and in front.

Great point here. We have some defensemen who will protect the net (Bogo, McCabe, and Risto) but two of them are frequently injured and the third is often wandering and only appears to get up when playing Ovechkin and Crosby. And we're drafting smaller and smaller guys who aren't going to clear the front, either. JBot wants speed and movement on the blue line. And we're small down the middle, too (and play small defensively, even if a bigger guy, in Jack's case).

If we lose him for nothing he let him walk.

Semantics, sure. But if we offer $10M/year (too much, yes, but exaggerating for effect) and he elects to go to a contender for $8 M/year (more accurate estimate), that's no letting him walk. That's him choosing to win. And that's good on him.

You can already almost hear Botterill using Olofsson's intriguing finish as justification for letting Skinner walk.

He won't let Skinner walk. But Skinner can skate really well, and other teams could make lesser offers that are much more desirable to a scoring winger.

I'm only interested in watching the "Amerks" for curiosity and a glimmer of hope.

Olofsson needed to be stronger on his passes and dump-ins last game, but otherwise he looked good. He shot the puck instead of dawdled, he had the nice final assist to Eichel, and he generally appeared to be where he needed to be (well-coached).

For Saturday night on the Island...  gonna need something strong for this game. I've always heard about the power of Colt 45....
