  1. On the possible plus side -- this will teach the 1st PP unit that it can't just stand around waiting for an Olofsson snipe. More movement, more Reino in front of the net for more goals? Hopefully. C'mon, let's keep a little optimism here.

On the negative side -- Skinner's injury means he can't just step in and go on the attack. And Thompson is still out so he's not getting the chance to capitalize, either.

Mr. Frolik, you have a glorious opportunity! (And Asplund, too.) I think Lazar has to stay at center for the moment. Now that he's back healthy, Wilson is a good 4 LW to keep that line afloat.

  2. The question now is Wilson in the lineup while Frolik's visa goes through...   or does ERod get a chance to skate? If ERod/agent had kept quiet, with Olofsson and Skinner out, he could be skating on a line with Eichel and Reino. That'd be good for stats and his next contract. But alas... maybe he just continues to sit and stew.

is it me or does ullmark give up way too many rebounds

He's improving at it. His first year was a lot of big rebounds, followed by a bit more flailing to make up for it. Now, much more composed and square and his rebounds are similar to other mid-tier goalies. He's coming along well.

Not according to Calgary fans. He's a defensive forward/pk specialist. I've read some and inquired, he's really helped Tkachuk's defensive game from every Calgary fan who responded.

PK is a Sabres weakness, a defensive forward to help it, in exchange for Scandella? Sure, why not...…………….if it does indeed workout that is.

If he kills penalties and is a good mentor to young guys the rest of the year (and if he pots 7 goals in the second half which appears to be be his recent average), and all he needed was a change of scenery, then it'll be good. I mean --- ideally --- he solidifies the middle 6 and gives us some flexibility to sit Sheary/Vesey/Asplund or whomever isn't up to snuff. (I'd say Sheary, because I like Asplund's potential.)

This guy has a horrible hair cut, i hate this trade

We'll put him in a helmet. It'll work. It'll work.

Is he  better than Sobotka? Because we were at the top of the standings and Skinner was scoring on a line with Sobotka.

    Just sayin...

He's a Sobotka. But with higher scoring upside. For a 4th, sure. He can log time with Skinner and Sobotka out and ERod upset.

It also means that Bogosian is playing every game --- and frankly, Scandella was playing better than Bogo this year. So we've downgraded our defensive depth for another milquetoast

    Don't forget Billington either.

Yup. 1.89 GAA, .927 S%, 5 shutouts, and a sparkling .909 S% (10 of 11) in shootouts. That translates to 24-5-1 in his regular season appearances last year. STL's defensive structure had a lot to do with the low shots faced, but he also was pretty well unbeatable in OT/SO.

Tampa should sign him to beat up our players. Wouldn't be a problem. Sabres would lose every game and get their ass kicked.

I know we're all being tongue-in-cheek, but don't worry, he's going to clear waivers. Dalton will be back in Rochester tomorrow to help the Amerks to the playoffs.

I think the evidence suggests that this situation is untenable and unfixable while Jason Botterill is at the helm, and formally declare my desire to see him removed from his position as soon as possible.

    It's treason, then. ?

As soon as Berglund left (and thankfully terminated his contract and that cap hit --- he could have stayed or floated all last year) a move needed to be made for the 2C. Mitts was not ready and Sobotka ... well, yeah. That $4M saved instantly should have been invested as salary going the other way or to take on an overpriced 2C rental. We needed the ROR-replacement then and we still don't have it now a full year later. Asplund is not the guy. MoJo is a very good signing as a mid-6 winger. Goodness, just imagine if Goalofson hadn't arrived this year and Thompson hadn't had any ROC time and was stunted again this season.

You're saying coming here was a bad idea. I'm beginning to agree with you. R-2F what are we doing here? It's like something out of a dream...

  9. Whether he requested a trade or just doesn't see himself on the team next season is irrelevant. ERod had the opportunity as the 2nd line center with Skinner. He lost it. He had the opportunity to beat out Mittelstadt for minutes and failed at that. He had the opportunity to be a PKer -- Asplund took that job. He had the opportunity to come to the aid of Eichel, Dahlin, and Sobotka after they had been run. Dalton was signed for that. Good. I'm glad he's upset. But he'd better be upset at himself. And no one is going to trade for him. The best thing he could have done was start to produce in whatever manner makes the Sabres victorious to make himself attractive to other GMs.

Likewise with Bogo. They're both going to other teams next season (if they're in the league) and neither of them is getting a raise. They can be upset and request a trade all they want but they've had the opportunity to shine on one of the most talent-deficient rosters in the league the last couple seasons and they've done little if anything to improve it.

  10. Phew. Thanks, Ullmark! Let’s not get overly sloppy here.
(And we’re watching an entertaining hockey game with a team that’s showing some heart after weeks of malaise. This is supposed to be a happy occasion! Let’s not bicker and argue about who played more hockey than who.)

    Phew again! Thanks, Linus.
