  1. Does anyone have espn insider? They have a pretty interesting article up about playoff bubble teams next season and I'm interested to see if they include the Bills on that list.

I honestly think the Bills can be a playoff team next year, but I lose that hope entirely if Pettine leaves

  2. I'd be willing to wager Marcus Foligno's jersey number > Lynch's IQ.

All you can do now is watch the magic.....

I think it's fair to say that IQ scores aren't too relevant to football.

Pretty sure Frank Gore has the 2nd or 3rd worst Wonderlic score in league history. 1st Is Claybourne for the Cowboys with a 3/50 I believe.

Has anyone actually seen this test? You might be classified as legally retarded if you can't pass it; one of the questions is literally, "Which of these numbers is the smallest?"

  3. Just finished the sanding on the coffee table I've been working on (refurbishing). Took way longer than I thought (about 15 hours) because of all the cracks and crevices, but I'm pretty stoked to finally stain it. Started the project about a week ago for my mom's birthday, it was her grandma's and came into my possession after she died. She was huge in my mom's life, and the passing was pretty hard, so I think this will blow her away.

  4. Given they are looking to make a playoff run, me thinks they want immediate payoff. Moulson, Ott. Ehrhoff and Armia for O'Reilly and a 2nd. (e4)

Of course, none of that will happen but this is for "fun" right?

Damn it, and here I thought I came to a community of fellow fans just to be depressed and get only facts, like the ones I can find on TSN or ESPN or Capgeek or NHL.com. If only there was a place where we could discuss possibilities and rumors that we'd like to or could possibly/maybe see happening with a great group of people...

I LOVE O'Reilly...but there's no F'n way he's worth Ehrhoff AND 1-2 additional major pieces.

I could see Ehroff and maybe a 3rd or a 2nd, but I agree with Sizzle in that I wouldn't put Girgs, Risto, or Z up for him with our best d-man. I'm not quite sure why we should give that much for him high anyway; with Mackinnon, Statsny, and Duchene, I don't think they really need another Center. I think the Avs have a ton of leverage here: they don't need him, but he is certainly a coveted piece for many teams

  5. I think even the speculative posts should just forget about including the likes of Grigs and Zadorov. I don't think the Sabres are going to give up the young'ns any time soon.

I agree with this, and I'd throw Risto in that category as well. Not saying you, but I feel like a lot of us seem to put Zadorov ahead of Risto, even though the latter has had quite the showing lately. I like;m both, and think they have a ton of potential, but I can easily see Risto coming up before Zadorov does.

  6. If you go back to your first post in the thread and use the "edit", then "Use Full Editor" option you can edit the thread title.

I had changed it to something along the lines of "Trade Deadline Rumors/Speculation- 2014 Edition" per someone's request, and I thought that was reasonable, but I suppose not. It is just a title, and if people agree with it it's fine, I just don't want it turning into crap because I know some of us really do want a consolidated thread to discuss possible trades rather than hop around three different threads looking for what I wanted. The thread is temporary until the deadline, after which I'm sure someone will make a "Trades that Actually happened" thread, which are always a good time.

Thanks for the help on how to change it though, much appreciated

  7. So can we get rid of the childish title and get back to some good discussion? On top of that, can we stop ever quoting Eklund on rumors?

Not sure where it came from, I'd assume the mods did it.

It was supposed to discuss rumors, not ###### as the title alludes to. So whoever changed it, can you please change it back? Some of us were actually enjoying this

I think the thread title is as appropriate a thread has ever been. There may be 1% content that has some real legs, but everything else is fantasy land crap and we should treat it as such.

Could have just been put as "speculation" or "rumored thread," doesn't have to make a complete mockery of it. I get they're rumors, but some of them are coming from decent sources, and the rest is just that, speculation amongst ourselves. And if we're gonna shame that, then why are we even here?

  8. Then it should be named differently.

    changed it

I guess the name can change but I definetly enjoy all the speculation and rumours tweeted and discussed by the talking heads.

I do. I enjoyed that thread and hope it pops again sometime closer to the deadline.

I think this thread is just a product of people, like myself, not wanting to discuss speculation in three different threads (such as Around, the Vanek thread and the place your bets thread).

This is why the thread was made, too much clutter on other pages/ I like hearing all of the speculation. The polls were just for the hell for it. Glad people are enjoying it

  9. for what in return? a low 1st round pick?

    David Pagnotta@TheFourthPeriod

Kings clear a bit more cap space by moving Scrivens to EDM (did so earlier by moving Carcillo to NYR). They're looking hard for scoring LWer

Paging Matt Moulson... Matt Moulson to Tim Murray's office, thank you.

Sign me up for Martin Jones and a pick

Edmonton never had a chance to get Miller anyways, so it doesn't change anything for us.

Figured for Enroth really, but that would only be if Miller resigned or we got a goalie to replace them both

  10. With the deadline only a two months away, and rumors already heating up, I figured it was time we created a separate thread for all trades leading up to the deadline so we don't clutter up others. Plus, wanted to have one place to discuss all rumors instead of two different threads.

Enjoy the poll, and the thread. I'm taking the last few relevant posts from other threads and putting them in here, just give me a second.

    David Pagnotta@TheFourthPeriod

The Oilers have been working the lines pretty heavily lately, I suspect we'll see at least one more move fairly shortly.

Seems that Edmonton is trying to make additional moves as their last trade doesn't really address their primary need of legit goaltending. However if I had to think in terms of Buffalo, I would think Jhonas Enroth with another year on his deal would be more of a target for them than Ryan Miller. Speculation on my part of course.

WHO WILL THE NEW SABRES GM TRADE?

The Buffalo Sabres recent hiring of former Senators assistant GM Tim Murray as their new GM has some observers pondering the moves he could have in store for his new club.

CBC’s Elliotte Friedman reports Murray, in the press conference announcing his hiring, indicated there were no untouchables on his new team. However, teams with interest in young Sabres like Zemgus Girgensons, Tyler Myers or Rasmus Ristolainen should expect to pay a high price to acquire them. That should discourage any rival GM hoping to fleece Murray, who has years of front office experience with several NHL clubs.

Murray’s biggest challenge will be determining the fate of pending free agents like Moulson, Ott and goaltender Ryan Miller. Murray is expected to speak with Miller before the March trade deadline about re-signing with the Sabres. If the netminder intends to test this summer’s free agent market, Murray could shop him for the best possible return.

    COULD THE PANTHERS LAND MILLER?

Harvey Fialkov of sun-sentinel.com notes Miller has family living in Florida, suggesting the Panthers could consider pursuing the 33-year-old goalie via free agency in July.

Vinnie Viola, the Panthers new owner, has given GM Dale Tallon permission to spend up to the cap ceiling this summer, which is projected to be $71.1 million for 2014-15. The Panthers currently have$40.4 million invested in 12 players, leaving them more than $35 million to pursue free agent talent like Miller in July.

It remains to be seen, of course, if the Panthers succeed in landing Miller or any of this summer’s top free agents. While they will bid competitively, that might not be enough to attract a veteran like Miller, who would likely prefer signing with a Stanley Cup contender. Indeed, Tallon should avoid pursuing veterans more interested in a big payday than in building a winner.

At the very least, the Panthers willingness to spend puts an end to speculation they’ll engage in a roster fire sale by the deadline.

    Volatile Venture

With the post-season now a realistic possibility for the surging Ottawa Senators, general manager Bryan Murray seems ready to make a deal.

"We are available to make a deal," he said in a conference call Tuesday.

However, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun writes that one of the prized names on the market, Buffalo Sabres forward Matt Moulson, may be a little too pricey for the nation's capital.

Brennan says one NHL executive believes a deal between the Senators and Sabres "makes sense", but another executive said the Sabres would likely ask for too much in the form of "a minimum of a first (round pick) and a top young player. And I'm not even sure they even want a first in this draft."

Moulson is making $3.13 million this year and is said to be looking for a long-term deal and double his current wage. The Senators likely won't be willing to give up the pieces or dollars for a deal going forward.

  11. I'd be interested to hear what the league thinks on openly indicating a tank philosophy.

Likewise. I'm pretty sure the NBA had a big problem with this, and if I remember correctly their response was to implement the lottery. Since we already have one, and if it gets that obvious we are tanking, I suppose they'll just look at our ball for the 1st pick and say, "nope, ###### these guys."

That being said, I think it's becoming pretty obvious he intends to move/let Miller leave. There's no way we're this good without him, he's single-handedly won around 8 games for us. He leaves, and we lose maybe Moulson or Ott, and I can easily see another top 2 pick in 2015.

The question is, is this something we are going to be okay with? It sucks that we suck during the wrong draft year, and watching this is no fun, so are we prepared to strap on our ###### boots and do it all over again? I hate being pessimistic, but I think next year will be more painful to watch simply for the fact that there won't be so many organizational changes that lend all of this excitement in lieu of decent play.

  12. ICYMI, Good interview with Murray this morning on WGR: Tim Murray on the Howard Simon Show <24:36>

starts talking about the 2015 draft around 3:50, discussing tank methods and draft positions. I love what he has to say on this, claiming you want to get better, but you have to look towards the future. Says if it comes to next trade deadline and we're around the fifth worst, there's trades we can make to get ourselves into that position for a top 2. Says he likes quality > quantity, and with amount of picks we have we can manipulate them to get higher picks.

  13. This would be epic.

So if this is an 80s TV show, Murray is the no fun weapons expert, Pat is the guy with the funky plans, and Teddy is the affable wheelman. Now all we need is The Wild Card.

    Especially the Wild Card.

You called? I would've responded earlier if I knew I was in such high demand but as you can clearly tell, I was out hunting for some Beef on Wecks for the presser.

    Doesn't it?

Good: We should build a hotel and a parking garage across the street.

Better: With a bar to watch games.

Pegula: WITH TWO ###### ICE RINKS ON TOP!

Good: We should replace our head coach and GM.

Better: With some good honest names in Sabres history, like LaFontaine and Nolan.

Pegula: AND THAT GUY FROM MIRACLE!

hahaha this, :clapping:  +1

I'm stoked for this hiring. I love the combo, and after I get out of work I can do some more research and have a little more to say.

Any indication of a ceremony at the game tonight?

  14. I like what I've seen from Jones for sure. Unfortunately every goalie the Kings have put in net lately has turned out fantastic for them. Quick, Bernier, Jones and Scrivens. Scrivens was always mediocre at best and has looked amazing there.

So I wouldn't give up anything substantial to get him.

My thoughts exactly. This isn't a team that relies on the goalie; the goalie gets a ton of help from both forwards and d-men. Although as I said before, it would be nic to have a goalie below the age of 23 who looks like they could have a stab at the NHL soon

IMHO even if Jone's did receive substantial help from the Kings play I'd still say he's worth the look. He put up very solid/consistent numbers in the AHL (.924, .919, .919 save percentages the last thre seasons) without them

I don't really get the hype for Gibson. I'll admit I know next to nothing about him, so some info would help before I judge too quickly, but a quick view on his stats doesn't leave me overwhelmed. His OHL numbers are great, but how good is the OHL compared to the AHL where Jones put up similar stats?
