That was all on Gerbe. He tried to force a pass to Pommers and it got picked off -

Wow honest interview by Regehr. I like it. I wonder if what s lacking on this team is not talent or coaching, but chemistry -

They've had 3 breakaways - Miller has bailed the entire team out this period -

It is not exactly a minor point - it has been quoted and talked about repeatedly. And explains why the conversation everyone was having was about NHL vs CHL, not NHL vs AHL. I think it is almost as ignorant as not knowing there is a difference between RFA and UFAs -

Is Grigo in trade rumours? It seems weird to scratch the guy for back-to-back games. He hasn't been a liability and he can only improve on his game if he gets to put into practice what he learnt from the press box -
The lineman is right there, how that was missed I don't know! Especially bad as they lost the game by one goal

Our scouting was mostly awful under TG. However, in the last 4 years it has started to become very good. It isn't surprising that we have a lot of potential D men who are not in the line-up, because they are mostly 21 and younger. Miller is a good goalie, and plays big in big games. Ask Vancouver if it is important to have that. Miller is 32, we easily have a few more years in him. Although I really wish we had a Bernier style goalie in the wings, someone who could share the load with him in two or three years and be young enough to be the face of the future core. High level talent comes from scouting and drafting well. Look at the Red wings prospect pool - it is pretty damn nice. Or look at the Pens prospects, also very nice. Coho, Ennis, Foligno, Grigo, Myers is a nice young core, and in a few years with Pommers, Vanek, Sekera, Hoff as our elder statesmen and probably some of Pysyk, Mccabe, McNabb, Armia, Girgs, we will have a nice team. But our core is young, it will take a while to develop. I think we need a shutdown centre (ROR) who can open the game up for the other forwards. I didn't expect to be amazing this year, but I did think we would be a dark horse. I'm not sure why our defence is so damaged, considering nothing changed with it last summer.

Both wrong. http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Benjamin_Franklin I'm kind of at a loss for our problems. I think we lack talent (or the talent is too young). Pommers and Coho are really good on the PK, Pommers is normally very good defensively, Coho has improved, but still fails. Maybe a trade of two would do wonders for the team

His team literally screwed him this game. I think it is good he said he was annoyed. He has very rarely screwed the team the way they have him multiple times this season. Not to mention, when he has a bad game he almost always responds with a very good one - not true with this team. It is often a very bad game followed by another followed by a win against the Bruins and the cycle repeats. This was a good game, but we have up a third period lead and let them win it with a couple of minutes to go. Something needs to change. Also apparently Grigo's family were in the stands (i presume having come from Russia?) and he got scratched...(his family live basically above china, so that is a pretty long trip to see their son in the press box - proud moment for them i'm sure) -

Pommers needs to start stepping up again. 0 points in 4 games, 2 penalties and the give away in the third that lead to the goal -

Gerbe on a shutdown line, interesting. Grigo might find his skill easier to come out against 4th liners He's out for the game according to the NHL preview - either injured or a nearly complete trade -
Ryan O'Reilly - Get Him At All Costs - Who Do You Trade
Trettioåtta replied to CallawaySabres's topic in Archive
Yeah I am confused by this. If you offered him 3 years 15 mil (I think that keeps him an RFA) that would be an average of $5mil a year, which would be a first and a third. I don't see why they would match - it makes no sense to refuse to pay a guy $5million a year, but agree to match it and have a really awkward year. If they matched it would be 12 months before they could trade him. That is a long time to have someone who doesn't want to be there or the other players don't want to be there -

I'd way rather trade Brennan than Pysyk. Brennan has no real place on this roster. Myes, Ehrhoff, Sekera are here to stay, Weber will be resigned and we will probably resign two of Regehr, Sulzer, Leopold, other vet. McNabb will make the jump next year, which would give us 7 D. Pysyk is a lot younger, so in 2/3 years will be ready and will be needed http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/tor130214.html -
For someone who infamously starts slow he has 9 points in 12 games. He also only has 1 goal - but I would expect that to increase, as he has 11 30 goal seasons. He is a power forward type player, they start dropping around his level. He might no longer be elite, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a lethal 60-70 point player who can lead a team

Since when is Seguin the standard for player development?
Trettioåtta replied to Aud Fellow's topic in Archive
Corsi is shots/goals/shot attempts etc. expressed as a rate of 60 minutes. So a positive Corsi means when that player is on the ice more shots are taken against the opposing goalie than their goalie. The quality of competition is the average corsi of the opposing players on the ice when that player is on the ice (so if they are against a negative player, then the competition is easier). Thus, over 60 minutes, when Grigo is on the ice, Miller will have 16 more shots than the opposing goalie. The difference in Grigo's 15.96 and Seguin's 3.4 is not that surprising when you consider how outshot all our lines have been this year. Fenwick stats measure number of shot attempts (including blocked and missed) against opposing goalie/total shot attempts against both goalies. So a value of 1 would mean 100% of the shots were against the opposing goalie and 0% against Miller. So in Grigo's case 40% of the shots are against the opposing goalie and 60% are against Miller, whilst for Seguin it is 50/50 - but Seguin played a full year, so i would bet that the first half was a lot worse than the second half. The best players (e.g. Toews) have a Fenwick of around 0.6 Basically I don't see a huge difference in the players - Seguin got more ice time, but also was better offensively - chicken and egg. I think Grigo is doing fine and I don't think other players are stealing ice time from him- 23 replies

Honestly he doesn't do much on the ice, he is not a liability, but he also isn't lighting the lamp. I don't think Ruff is taking ice time he has earnt away from him. I'm sure that Seguin sat now and again while the 4th liners where on the ice. Over the first 14 games Seguin got 6 points, a -2 and about 12:50 a game, whilst Grigo got 11:12 a game, 3 points and was a -4. All of those stats are fairly similar. Sequin had a Corsi of -3.4 and faced a competition of -0.406 over the whole season, whilst Grigo has a Corsi of -15.94, however he faces a competition of 2.98. But all the sabres face harder competition and are outshot atm 0.493 was Seguin's Fenwick % over the season and Grigo is 0.396 so far. I don't see a huge difference here, as I presume the second half of the season increased Seguin's stats. The major thing I see is that Grigo spends a lot of time in his zone when he is on the ice.- 23 replies

Props to the coaching for forcing him to learn defence. He is quite the all round player now - still they don't get a first because of him this year, so they paid quite a lot for him

He had a brief stint of being useful, around the end of the 04 lockout, and has basically done nothing since. Someone used to track how often he was right, last i saw it was around 3% On the other hand, maybe he is in the know the most and trade talks just fall through frequently anyway. Did he definitely say they lost the night before? Nash and Col also played the night before
