Jack will never be a cerebral defensive player, but he's doing what we need him to do back there early on.

I've seen them talk it over and call it. Never seen them go to the box and talk to the guys with replay. I guess I can't be sure that they used video to make it, but what would those guys know, they were further from the play than the refs?

I'm actually a little worried about Arizona tying this thing.

Vegas was a legitimately good NHL game, IMO. Not a lot of scoring chances against, in control the whole time. And right now, I'm happy to claw points out any way we can. This is the first season we really have potential for huge leaps from several players as it develops. Last year's Pouliot, Griffith, Nolan lineup did not offer that possibility. Between the eventual addition of 2-3 guys who look great in Rochester so far, the development of 37/72, and Dahlin, things should absolutely get better as the weeks melt away. I saw more open net looks for the Coyotes in a 30 second stretch that period than Boston got that whole game. Our offense has done a better finishing job but has created about two chances at even strength so far, where they hit a post and had a couple close one-timer robberies against Boston. The zone time and shot totals also show this IMO

All 4 lines are having some bad breakdowns, but 2 of them are also getting consistent, team-based offensive zone time with effective cycles and passing. Lines 1 and 4. I understand that ERod comes with high event hockey both ways, but so does everyone else tonight. We need to find a way to get the ERod line on the ice more, don't switch thigns around, just treat them as "line 2" the rest of the night.

I watched the home opener. They stayed with Boston the whole game, but had 4 key breakdowns, and the line that has all three players averaging like three points per game so far made them pay each time. In this game, if Arizona was Boston, they'd be up by 7 goals right now. But Arizona's riding a 90% PDO early on and we see why.

I think this has been by far our worst game this season.

55-6 and the middle six will be the themes of my post-game Saturday night posts for sure.

Phil's got the right idea rewarding Dahlin for his play, the wrong idea in putting him with Risto as a reward, the right idea moving him back. Finish it off by bumping up 19-26's minutes and cutting back on 55-6 for tonight.

With his and Rodrigues' builds being similar, it is satisfyingly symmetric when they're out there killing together
