From Tim Graham Are we ever going to learn what’s up with Kim Pegula? Not asking you to divulge, but do you have any indication as to whether she will be in public again? Just curious and a bit sad. Sad to see Terry Pegula alone at games. — Steve F. At some point, I believe the Pegulas will feel comfortable enough to share the recovery Kim has been going through. By all accounts she has been steadily improving. The family has chosen to protect her privacy, which is understandable. Fans and employees want to know how she’s doing, which also is understandable. People feel they have a right to know Kim Pegula’s health information because she is a public figure. She is the co-owner and president of NFL and NHL franchises. The Pegulas are beneficiaries of $850 million in public money to build a new Bills stadium. My stance on the issue is that as long as the teams are operating as they should in her absence, then her recovery and the timeline for her return is nobody’s business. I’ve heard from several employees who feel they should be updated on Kim Pegula’s health, but how long would that information remain in-house? It would take three seconds to leak. Bills sources tell me executive president and chief operating officer Ron Raccuia has absorbed Kim Pegula’s duties, has been working closely with Terry Pegula and is overseeing the various business department heads, while football operations hasn’t been affected at all. The Bills through seven weeks have established themselves as the NFL’s best team. The stadium deal still isn’t finalized (all three negotiating parties have told me there’s nothing to be alarmed about), but Raccuia was the project’s point person all along. The Sabres extended general manager Kevyn Adams and coach Don Granato before the season and are off to an impressive start.

16-17 had Bob Woods, who has been with Minnesota since, coaching the PP. He’s one of the better ones in league

Through the First Six Games, the Sabres has been abysmal with the Eye Test Matching the Analytics. The League Average is around 89% and as expected they have the highest expected goals against on the PP, meaning they are giving up the most short handed attempts. The PDO Cast with Dimitri Filipovic and Cam Charron had a recent episode about the Sabres. Charron was with the Leafs Analytics Department until this year (It’s a excellent listen about the team, including that Krueger should be in jail for what He did Dahlin) They did mention that the Sabres are one of the teams who score well off the rush at 5v5, but do not utilize the same tactic on the power-play. Once they enter the zone they set up and allow the defensive team to get set up and their penalty kill this reduces the chance of being successful. Kevin (NTrider825 on Twitter) mentioned they are attempting to use the same power-play that they did with Eichel. The goal is to get the Tage Thompson or Victor Olofsson for one timers, unfortunately other teams have adapted to that and are able to allow their goalie to get into position to meet to save more often than not. Switching personnel probably will probably make a short term difference but they do need to change the power-play to something different. Although this is a small sample size for this year, the problem was present last season as well. Attempting to score more off the rush before the PK has a chance to get set up in the zone or perhaps setting up a power-play that’s run for the goal line would be beneficial moving forward. With the amount of talent they have in this team the success rate of the power-play should be much higher.

Bear won’t kill you defensively is a RHD on an expiring contract who is still a RFA

From Friedman’s 32 Thoughts 6. Surging Buffalo has a problem on defence. Mattias Samuelssonis out (although thankfully it’s not as bad as it initially looked). Henri Jokiharju is out. I could see GM Kevyn Adams examining what’s out there. You know when your team deserves help, and the Sabres sure are showing it. 7. One defenceman whose situation is coming to a head is Ethan Bear. Players want to play, and he hasn’t dressed yet this year. It’s nothing nefarious, Carolina’s doing what it thinks is best, but he can’t be happy and it’s really hard when you don’t play a game like the one in Edmonton — since you always want to prove your former team to be wrong. After mentioning it last weekend, a couple of sources indicated there was a trade request last summer. The Hurricanes’ position on this is as follows: they consider Bear a legit NHL defenceman and, since they don’t have cap issues, won’t eat part of his salary for “minimal return.” It’s possible Bear ends up on waivers to see if anyone claims him, and word is he would go to AHL Chicago, just because he wants to play. Vancouver’s shown real interest. Washington did around the draft. It’s believed Toronto’s poked around too. I’m sure there are others, we will see how it ends up.
