  1. Hey sabre fans, grettings from Sweden   :w00t:

With Ullmark you now have lots of new fans!!

We sat up last night, guys at work (01 at night in Sweden) to watch the game against Vancouver, which is quite special for us MODO fans, since the Sedin twins are born and raised here in Ornskoldsvik and MODO Hockey,

just as Ullmark is, almost anyway since he did 2 seasons in his younger days in a close to Ornskoldsvik town, Kramfors.

We have had great players coming from our little northern town in Sweden, Ornskoldsvik and MODO Hockey into NHL.

Players such as Peter Forsberg, Markus Naslund, Daniel/Henrik Sedin, Per Svartvadet, Nicklas Sundstrom, Matthias Timander, Alexander Edler, Hans Jonsson, Mats Zuccarello Aasen.

Most of them born here and raised here in Ornskoldsvik.

    Anyway ..

Ive seen Ullmark since he started in MODO Hockeys J20 (Juniors), and when he started playing for MODO Hockey in SHL he showed us all why he is with Sabers right now in his young age.

This goalie is in my own and others opinion Swedens next Henrik Lundqvist, give him some time to adjust to NHL, smaller rink and the system, and to be able to heal as an player from his hip sugerys.

Your team with Ullmark and Lehner will for sure reach the playoffs, im sure of it. And its gonna be freggin great to follow Sabers now with Ullmark, he can sometimes do saves like no other, and his spirit on and off the ice

will make you love him, he really likes to show how much he apreciates the fans and the support that his team gets from you guys and you will see it coming more and more.

    Well met,  :worthy:

    Regards,

    "MODO Hockey"

Welcome MODO. Fun to have you here.

  2. Wants him to be the starter at present, or moving forward after Lehner returns?

My take is, right now he and CJ are comparable (both have strengths w/ a glaring weakness). However, much of Ullmark's weakness can be assumed to be due to recovering from hip surgery and there is a reasonable expectation that he'll improve as he gets back to game shape. (Getting used to the smaller rinks would also improve w/ more work, though I truly don't see rinksize being an issue for him.) CJ most likely is what he is at this point and significant amounts of work won't make him better at handling the puck in tight to his body - though I'd be real interested in seeing him try a mask that's cut a little lower at the eyes (to see if somehow his issues w/ playing the puck near him isn't vision induced).

If DB agrees that they're comparable or believes LU is better at this point, might as well give him the bulk of the work.

Ocho Johnson is probably what we've seen. He scares the hell out of me handling the puck as well.

He's not the future, and probably we've seen his upside. He'll give you a chance to win most games, but  he'll outright lose a few too.

Might as well groom Ullmark with starts if your chances are about even and you are gambling on a higher ceiling.

  3. Fair enough. I didn't see the interview, but he probably didn't "go off." He did call out his teammates, and it seems like bad form when you've just given up the winning goal in the dying seconds. Make a save. It wasn't one of those "Miller had no chance" moments we heard about so much here. I can just see the gears grinding in his head as the play unfolds. Based on quotes from the past and even the day before yesterday, I think Miller knows he needs to focus on playing goal. He just can't seem to resist being captain/coach/goalie. When X says hockey players don't take offense to anything, that ignores lockerroom issues that have been going on since the dawn of organized hockey.

P.S. How many goalies in the game give interviews like that?

Generally players are expected to follow this when talking to the press:

Be truthful, make no guarantees, don't brag, don't name names unless it is positive.

Miller's always followed that. As much as you want there to be an issue, there really isn't one.

Players call each other out inside the room. Not out. That's how it works.

The after-game press conference is rarely a reflection of team dynamics.

I remember Captain Chris Drury of the Rangers telling reporters what a great teammate Sean Avery was.

Inside the room Drury was telling Avery to check his .

  4. The players! Wow, that's an even better idea. You know, I don't even know how fast the players do skate. What, ummm..25-30 mph? I'd love that, if we could see on replay how fast they accelerated, which players got to top speed the fastest, etc.

Really hockey games are being broadcast like 30 years ago. (but worse, really)

Last year we saw Duffer with the Corsi segments which was the vanilla base of a boring sundae.

Things producers could track...... shots in MPH. How fast players are skating. collision speeds. Zone time clocks. Possession clocks. Entry speeds. Transitions time from D zone to O zone. I would even love Real Time Stats on the bottom as soon as they are scored.

Examples such as:  Gorges Block, Foligno Hit, Ennis Shot. O'Reilly wins Draw, Ullmark Save.

  5. I'm glad he's Vanc's problem now. X will say it's just a goalie being weird, but I can't understand how this kind of stuff doesn't become a problem in the lockerroom.

Millsie goes off on his teammates:

How about making a save in crunch time?

He's 100% right. Vancouver threw a point away.

They lost because of sloppy coverage.

That's not on the goalie. (We'll never agree on that either).

And I'm glad we don't have this conversation anymore.

I've never believed hockey players are  thin-skinned.

Buffalo was outplayed. (as they were on the Island too)

Stupid Vancouver plays  gave this game away.

    And i'm happy.

  6. I remember hearing that at the time, but who knows what happened behind closed doors.  Remember he's a former member of that staff. He may have wanted Legwand, knew that Ottawa wasn't happy with the role he was filling, and pulled him over, graciously letting Ottawa insinuate it was just a cap dump.

I don't think Ottawa management was worried about fan perception of moving Leggy. IIRC, fans were quite disappointed he had lost a a step.

  7. They should have a speed clock on the shots in hockey. And when they do replays they should show the shot speed so we can know how hard the shot was. Boom!

Hey, they do it for baseball pitches. I'm sure they could set that up.

    Go Sabres

I actually think you are on to something. That is one thing that the NHL does a very poor job marketing, the speed of the game.

If they could track the speed of players, passes, and shots in MPH, i really think it would open some minds to the game.

Or even at what speed someone got hit at, or ran into the boards at.

  8. Serious observation: Setting aside all the dated cheesiness -- that two-part overlapping hook has good melody and decent structure to it.

    Also, where's Lindy?

He stormed out ......"Why does Housley get the Guitar part?, and if I can't stand between Puppa and Goforth, I'm outta here."
