Kind of a dick move to honor him against us, like they couldn't have picked any if the other 30+ home games that aren't against us?
Actually the opposite, really, these games are about the player. I'm sure when asked, Briere requested it. It is kind of nice.
(his kids were raised in Buffalo and Philly, right?)

Agreed. The issue is so far Gionta is neither part of a pair, nor one of our best forwards.
Gionta was looking very good in pre-season. I really think he'll start scoring once he is skating better.
-
Bylsma plays Gionta wayyyy too much. And he should probably give Ennis less ice time, too. It might be a result of his forward pairing system.
It really is by design. By using pairs, Bylsma is basically rotating pairs and then mixing in a third forward.
But it really allows him to double shift his best forwards without disrupting the rotation.

"Then qwk said, stop, it Hertz!"
I used to run through prison buffet lines, but now I fly!

Zemgus really has had a disappointing start, innit?
Quick thoughts: He's working hard from what I see, but he needs to push some bodies back to be effective near the net. This team really needs more motion down low and he needs to draw more attention. I haven't seen any team worried about him.

You're a tea man, right? I like it, but I've always bought the crummy, cheap store brand. 400 bags for 11 cents. Last time I went for the Bigelow Earl Grey. Pretty big difference. It comes in sealed packets and smells great. Must be the real oil of bergamot from Calabria.
I usually steep my tea. Twinnings loose tea, or Teavana of late. English or Irish Breakfast.....it has to be bracing. I used to drink a lot of Earl Grey, but I think I got sick once and was tasting begamot for a week. I can't touch it anymore.
For cutting, I usually like a board with a rusty nail through it. There really is something about a good self-inflicted puncture wound that is superior to slicing.

Handsome woman is something I always think that Elvis would say.

I'm going to make some herbal tea and cut myself.
Chamomile and a boxcutter?
or
Rooibos and razor?

I hear they don't even play hockey in the NBA.
there is goaltending, but it means different stuff.

Good news: the forward lines are strong, and we have centers.
Bad news: we have half a blue line and no starting goalie.
This is still a project.

I say this knowing precisely zero about both Hurley and Petan, but Craig Button strikes me as a bit of a nut case.
I enjoy Button. I wouldn't put him in charge of my scouting department, but he is fun to follow.

This is not an investment. I just don't want to lose money. But you're right. It's my risk. But I think this is a "canary in a coal mine" thing, indicating that fan interest in the Sabres isn't where we think it is.
Fan interest and willingness to attend aren't always the same. TV ratings are relatively high, even though they fell by about 40%.
So no, I don't think there is a fever right now. But I thought it was fairly obvious to most.
-
The interest is probably never as high as the marketing people want us to think it is. I always laugh at the buildup for the season openers... it's gonna be craaaay craaaaaaay!!!!!! Then there's one Let's Go Buffalo chant and people go to sleep. When I come to games I can never reconcile what I hear in the media about "hockey mad Buffalo" and the atmosphere in that building. Winnipeg, it ain't.
Hockey in Buffalo has always been a night out, but between the years of losing and the matinee games on beautiful Oct days, I'm not surprised to see empty seats.
-
Admittedly limited viewings, but I've never seen the high skill level people speak of and Petan wasn't the only intriguing prospect left that year.
Hagg, Santini and Bowey were three solid defenders still on the board that would certainly strengthen our pool.
I really like Hagg too.

I don't think speculators are evil at all. But i guess that is what you are doing. You might lose money. There is some truth that Buffalo is a Bills town until January. But c'mon, we have Eichel now. Where is the enthusiasm for him? Where's the buy-in like the Bills got with Rex and company?
So if understand your position correctly speculators are evil because they sell to opposing fans, preventing loyal fans from attending, but loyal fans can't be expected to care enough in October coming off the tank? Mmm-kay.
But, take it as a suggestion, why take a loss, when you can give tickets at full face value for the write-off?
It might make the passengers on Rocketship 7 happy, Promo. :)
(I am a little puzzled how you understood the above as my "position"...but I see you want to make a return on investment)

If this comes down to "superstars " then we are not winning horseshit in the next 15 years. The superstar in Edmonton is better than ours. Not even close.
We have added Kane and Bogo from Winnipeg - what did they win while they were there?
We got O'Reilly from Colorado - they have 10x the talent we have. What did they win when he was there?
I really hope Eichel is that big of difference.

huh?

This is exciting hockey with players I'm interested in. The wins may come more slowly, but finally, it is an entertaining brand of hockey, and I think it is going to electric when the wins start coming.

I did that in 2005. Then I gained it all back.
I look more like the Before picture again.
My Goodness, I hope the Hawaiian shirt still fits. It would be a shame to give up on that.

Oh you think that will happen? Then let me ask you this: Where are those fans now? They are certainly not attending games.
Let's take the Canadiens game for example. Tickets were going for as little as $20 but the FNC was filled with Habs jerseys. Why? If anything the place should have been packed with rabid Sabres fans taking advantage of the huge savings off the regular box office prices, right? So what happened?
My theory is the tank blew off a sizable portion of the fan base. Chet and Muffy have moved on, apparently. Seems that Eichel, Kane and O'Reilly have yet to inspire the masses.
So your argument that speculators are preventing real fans from going to games is specious because those same fans have every opportunity to attend games now, at a discount no less, but choose not to. In fact speculators might actuality be propping up the Sabres ticket base.
Is this mystery really a hard to solve? It's October and it is a losing team coming off two last place finishes. What were you expecting?
You can always donate the tickets to some great charities so kids can see the games and you get the full face value for tax deduction.
C'mon man. Give em to the kids.

I continue to scratch my head about the Hurley pick.
The only thing I didn't like about it was Nic Petan was still on the board, and every time Craig Button talked about Petan his eyes would get really big, like he had seen the baby Jesus.

I am in Orlando for a wedding yesterday, and it so happened that the USWNT was playing a friendly versus Brazil here at the Citrus Bowl!... a bit of a "Victory Tour" for the champs. I ended up going to the game, and it was a ton of fun. Lots of families, great weather, and they won 3-1. Truth be told, though, Brazil was outplaying them for a solid majority of the game. Brazil did not bury their chances. Hope Solo played well in goal. Man, you can really see the game better in person than on TV, e.g., seeing the ball's trajectory, seeing the speed of the players.
Hope Solo.....I wonder if she can skate, and stop a puck.

Well, I'm not sure I'd go that far. The Lindsay, for certain. Hart though, I'd only give him a 40-50% chance.
Sounds low.

Rocket Richard trophy?
I was thinking the Hart

Stafford Scores his 5th goal.
