glad to see the sabres put a nice bookend to the sweep this season. I'm glad afinogenov stood up to that guy williams. Even with the crappy 1st period, the sabres are s uddenly looking scary good again.
The D pairing are looking great.
Boy do Tallinder and Lydman work well together.
As do Spacek and Campbell when they can concentrate more on the O
Teppo and Kalinen are no slouches either.
Having the D pairings back brings back a lot of rhythm.

their logo is uglier.
I would call that a draw, but I do think HSBC is way cooler than playing in the
Gaylord Entertainment Center,
-
I was at the game. Some thoughts...
-One team had very good goaltending, the other did not.
-WTF was Drury doing passing the puck when he had that break in on goal??
-I noticed Campbell making several plays that reminded me of the "old" Campbell.
-First game I've been to in a while where Max was a non-factor. Matter of fact, that line was a non-factor.
This is driving me crazy. In the third the goal lamp came on. The goal was waived off and play wasn't stopped which led to a break to the opposite zone and resulted in a goal (all the backcheckers were out of position).
A) shouldn't the goal lamp stop play?
B) Does the Montreal goal count if the Buffalo goal counts. I think not because there has to be a center ice faceoff after the first goal.
Either way, what the hell was that?

If this is the worst slump the Sabres get in, then they're doing just fine. They are still winning even though the last 10 games or so they have been badly outplayed a lot of the time. What happened? Are the other teams figuring out how to stop them, or are the Sabres unable to raise their game mentally each night.
Ryan Miller is becoming the big story. He comes to play every night. He's stealing games right now.
If the Sabres play like they have been recently, Sens win 4-1 with empty-netter.
Here's hoping they start to get it together again. It would be nice to see a take-charge effort and a 7-1 game for Buffalo.
Do we need Scott Arniel back?
I don't think it is missing Scott Arniel so much as the amount of time people have been scouting and preparing for Buffalo. The whole league is trading notes on Buffalo - slowing them down - trapping - standing them up at the blueline - and pressing the point on the PP.
The other trend I am waiting to see is if there is going to be a nightly cheap shot on Briere.
-
What is the deal with the Sens. They seem to have all the talent in the world. Is it that they don't have a Chris Drury? Is it a lack of faith in the goaltending? Coaching?
Where is MartinHavletismygod?

Special note of appreciation to Paul Gaustad as well.
He deserves to wear the throwback.
Tynan's guest appearance was my favorite broadcast moment of the year so far. He sounds like an amazing guy (if you didn't hear the story -- horrible car accident as a kid that required both legs to be amputated below the knee, made himself into a paralympian, won a bunch of events, set a number of records, went to medical school, became an orthopedist, and is a world-renowned singer) -- and somehow also became a huge sabres fan. He spoke passionately about how great the sabres' team spirit is, and was so psyched when they scored. Worth listening to again if you've got the game on tivo.
Separately, Miller was awesome AGAIN. I wouldn't trade him for any goalie in the league.
Go Sabres.
Thanks for that, If anyone has a picture of the Ronan Tynan quote and swords near the lockers could you post it please. I would love a copy of that picture.

Ronan Tynan's first goal call :w00t:
I can't even breathe.

Stat that stands out like a sore thumb:
Florida winning percentage when trailing after 1st period: 0%.
Lets play a good first period.
-
Went to the game tonight. Had a good time. The place was empty. You guys probably saw me on TV, I was the guy in the stands. Sorry bad joke. Seriously, there were a ton of Sabres fans there. I thought Miller played great tonight. Too bad he didn't get the shutout. From the replay I saw, it looked like the first one was a goal by about an inch. The second one looked like a good shot. I thought it was kind of funny how the 10 Devils fans still at the game acted like they just won the cup when they scored the first one.
As for the comments by the Devils announcers, the Devils were able to skate with the Sabres and play their game for 20 minutes....It takes 60 to win the game.
They were showing lots of sabres fans on Versus in the third.
But the biggest homer call was in the third period when the "Let's go Buffalo" was
audible on the broadcast. Emmerick said, "Let's go Devils is the Chant".
NIcely done anyway.
-
It looked to me like Lindy held the Briere line back the first period.
It gave them a second gear in the 2nd.
I'll take 1-0.
-
Briere 0-5 on faceoffs, something to watch with Drury out.
That is a good point. I would imagine that Gaustad will see some extra time for draws if it comes down to a possession game.
I'm not sure, but that one save did look like a post. Either that or a stick.
-
New Jersey beat Buffalo to EVERY loose puck in that period. Just heard that Buffalo hasn't won in NJ in four years.
How are we making a defensive team look like an offensive juggernaut?
I don't think it was that lopsided. Devils are going to pump shots from the point.
Buffalo got trapped in their zone the last minute when Soup broke a stick.
They owned the last 80 and probably had 4 shots, other than that it was pretty even.
Briere-Pommenville-Hecht all had less than 4 min. TOI.
-
Surprisingly, Devils seem to be keeping shifts shorter than Buffalo.
A fast, well played period. I don't think I saw a give-away by the Sabres.
-
Be interested to hear how the VS crew treats the Sabres tonight...
Doc Emmerik is calling the game. He usually handles the Devils, so I imagine he'll be
esp. complimentary of the Sabres. He's no dummy.
-
The key to tonight's game. Score first.
That is the entire game with the Devils.
They win 82% of their games scoring first. (5th in league)
-
You really think it was better than Vanek's no look backhand?
 Hmmm. Good point.
One is unbelievable and the other seems impossible.
-
Jochen played really well....OTHER THAN the first-goal-turnover...
There were two turnovers on that sequence. Kalinin and Hecht.
Hecht probably made the pass of the year so far on Briere's hat trick-
a backhand saucer pass right through the crease right to Danny's tape.
-
Danny
Miller
Kalinin
Kalinin played strong today. Very impressed by his performance.
Danny
Hecht
Miller for me.
I thought Kalinin had 3 pretty bad give aways. The first led to the first goal.
I really do like Tree, but man, he seems to be the the kid in the dance hall that
knows all the steps but doesn't have the rhythm .
Overall this was a solid, workmanlike road win. Not too sexy, but never in doubt.
-
blah. poor start.
-
That was just ugly. It seemed like the entire team had the puck caught in their skates most of the night. Ouch. That was hard to watch.
-
My guess on Novotny:
Separated shoulder or something collar bone-related.
That would be better than the C word.
-
Playing 10 games in 17 days at Sabre speed there are going to be casualties.
-
Wow. now this team can sleep for 78 hrs. and sit in the whirlpool.
What a stretch.

TEPPO!!!!!
oh drury!!!!!!!

Look for the powerplay to explode tonight for a goal.
(I thought I would keep the predictions modest)
