  1. And the Gaustad line needed to be out there as much as possible with the way they played last night. I thought there last shift with Niemi still in net was just about perfect. They worked the puck down low and then just kept it there. They didn't even attempt to move the puck back out beyond the faceoff dot. They were out there to control the puck and bleed the clock, and they did it perfectly.

They had a brilliant shift with just over two minutes left; it was beautiful to see.

  2. no disrespect intended but for starters we are talking about zombies which don't exist which makes this a fantasy/sci-fi/horror series which has absolutely no basis in reality so to argue that zombies couldn't over run your military is about as crazy as the plot. Nothing makes sense and everything makes sense, its escapism and its really not meant to make you think. Of course the Zombies could over run your military because the writers wrote that into the plot. Take Merle for example. He cut his hand off to escape the Zombies but he can't get past the zombies at the rooftop door so how does he get off the 10 story building? Does he climb down with his one good hand and his stump?

They only show the slow Zombies in Walking Dead. In England the Zombies are much faster. Atlanta has slower Zombies. They talk slower there too. It's more polite. We can't assume all Zombies are like Atlanta Zombies.

  3. After tonight I don't think lindy will be saying alot of great things about the Adam - Mancari combo. They barely saw the ice in the 3rd period.

I don't think shortening the bench in the third is a punishment in this case.

They managed quite a few shots in limited time.

  4. I'm going to keep pushing it, there's no way he deserves to be on that line. I really think that LINDY should give MANCARI a couple of shifts up there, he's insisting that he wants MANCARI to start scoring, what about GERBE. GERBE's taken CONNELLY's place as LINDY's little pet.

I think it has more to do with Mancari and Adam playing pretty well together.

  5. If you don't like spoilers, then don't read the Walking Dead thread over on the stadium wall. There is a guy there that has read the books that the series is based on and he gave many potential future plot twists away.

    Thanks for that.

  6.

    (On Chara)

He is a great, great player. But LQ says none of the big-dollar UFAs have been impact players -- I'm confused?

I think there is a distinction. Even Chara wasn't an immediate impact player. He struggled his first year in Boston.

Long term he's been the cornerstone of their franchise.

BTW - Ottawa let him go for nuttin - They chose Wayne Redden. Although in fairness, when Chara was available, the Sabres were capped out.

  7. :wallbash: :wallbash:

I am REALLY looking forward to seeing Kassian in a Sabres uni but I'd have done that trade all day long.

Florida was pretty firm on getting a top 15 pick.

He was looking more and more like a tired Olli Jokinen in Florida with shifts off and no more physicality than Al Kotalik.

The Bruins trade looks great at the moment.

  8. Watch the video on NHL.com. You can hit pause and click the blue bar to go frame by frame. Butler wasn't in the corner and McCormick was standing facing Weber in no position to take the pass. If Weber dumped to the other corner he is basically giving up the puck to the swarming Bruins. I'm not trying to absolve Weber of any blame. I just trying to point out it was a bad shift by all. Weber didn't have a lot of other options on the play.

Taking another look. It seems to me that the only person near McCormick is the Ref.

Butler looks a little slow moving back for weak-side help, but he is still a pretty safe pass. The third option could have been to swallow a hit which allows everyone to come back.

The pass he made defies explanation in my mind, but I think that's why he was raising the what-the-helldid-Ijustdo hands as it hit Horton's tape.

But I think it was ugly all around as you imply. Which suggests mis-communication. Nobody looked to be moving well for those few seconds.

  9. Was it a dumb play? He looked up and saw his outlet guy, Gaustad, and tried to get him the puck. Horton jumped the pass like a corner-back does. I have a few questions about that play. Why is Gaustad floating around the slot there? Horton was his guy, Gaustad should have read his break towards the net. Why was Butler late in getting to the other corner for the outlet? Why was McCormick just standing there along the boards? Weber made the wrong play because it was the play that led to a goal. The other guys on the ice did nothing to help the kid out or give him safer options.

You are kinder to Weber than I am. I thought he had had McCormick on the wall, and and easy slide back to Butler behind the net. They weren't moving well, but they were both open. Gaustad should be breaking high, for the second transition pass from McCormick.(I think) I just think Weber just thought Gaustad was wide open. He doesn't make that pass otherwise. It didn't look like he was in trouble to me. But that was how I saw it, which isn't always how a player feels it.

  10. Sounds a little creepy, but I can't see the old guy without seeing Jim Kelley.

I believe this actor also was in a Stephen King miniseries -- maybe "The Stand."

I don't know about The Stand, but I'm pretty sure he was in the Green Mile.

  11. Was I watching a different game?

It felt to me like no matter how hard the Sabres worked (and they did put in a good effort) they were just barely hanging on to that lead. That game *felt* like it was one mistake away from slipping away. The Sabres put in a good effort and it was all they could do to hang on to a 2-1 lead. They worked hard enough to get chances but weren't GOOD enough to convert them. And then Boston, who seemed content to keep it close, got their chance and in a flash it was in the net, easy as pie.

Boston is going to be in the playoffs because they have the personnel to convert chances in close games they maybe don't deserve to win. Buffalo will be cleaning their lockers out early because they don't have the personnel to convert mistakes into points at critical times in games they played well in.

Boston is a mature team. Really they are only playing the NJ Devils Transition Trap which Julien brought in, but surprisingly they forechecked more last night than I've seen them play in the last few years.

Chara must have played close to 33 minutes. Which is his number. Unreal.

  12. Zombies are walking the earth and that is the issue you have? How about a guy being left alone in a hospital for god knows how many days or weeks with no food or water and can still walk home moments after he wakes up.

Right now they are about introducing characters. They have yet to get into the meat of the story.

The ratings were really good. 5.3 million viewers for the first episode. They had 4.7 million last Sunday. Good enough for AMC to green-light a 13 episode 2nd season. I hope every sticks around to let the story develop and keep the show going.

because of your thread I've been watching.

Why is it the Zombies get to throw as many people over the boards as they like? If you ask me it doesn't look like anybody is calling the game at all.

I enjoyed it, but I had a hard time with Noah Emmerich being cast as the last living Government Employee/Scientist. BTW...Jeff Demunn who plays the old guy and is a great character is from Buffalo.

  13. And can we please stop blaming a loss by an 11-17 team on the refs?

The refs were horrible, both ways. There were about 5 consecutive instances of icing/no icing that were perplexing. They didn't call Hecht for waterskiing 30 yards tethered to the crotch of a Bruin. And I sure as heck don't want them deciding the game in OT. The high stick had to be called as there was a 2 inch gash next to his eye. Here's the deal....they weren't going to call another penalty on Buffalo. Chop the daylights out of Rechhi's back and knees, and maybe he isn't on top of Miller.

    Make your own luck.

Does Recchi have a grandfather clause? He seems to be able to play by the late 90's rules.

How was his take down of Myers not a hold? It looked like a hand from behind without position.

  14. I'm not asking anyone to blame Miller. Was the shot absolutely unstoppable? Unstoppable shots are stopped every night. Thomas did it the other night against Toronto.

Laser shot tipped in by Recchi right in front.

If not unstoppable it was at least an extremely hard one to stop. Tough to play the shot and the re-direct.
